This isn't the food that you find at the Chinese stall in the food hall, but rather a restaurant owned and run by Chinese, and the worse their English, the more authentic the restaurant tends to be. Okay, it's not Hong Kong, but then again unless you are willing to put aside a week to travel there and back, these restaurants are probably the best that you are going to get. This certainly wasn't a bad restaurant. The staff were ever friendly, and it certainly seems popular, and they also have chop-sticks, which for me is an absolute must when it comes to eating Chinese food. The cool thing about these restaurants is that they have pictures of all the dishes, so you can just flick through the menu and point to the dish you want. However, be careful not to make the mistake that I made and point to the wrong one because you might end up with a meal that you don't particularly like. Oh, I better not forget, they also have pots of Chinese tea for $1.00 each, which is also pretty cool.

Its not unusual to see people waiting five deep in a queue for the freshly prepared dumplings and noodles. I've already detailed my fetish for their dumplings and the no 29 (beef/noodles) however you can add the no 94 (fried chicken/noodles) and beef skewers to the list. The beef skewers are a grilled/spiced cummin delight and great to chew on. Prices are cheap and the service is blunt, this place delivers consistently great food, however a word of warning, go easy on the chilli.

I will start by saying, and I guess this will form the majority of my review, but this place was really hard to judge. For those who have been to Burger Lounge in Eltham, it had a similar feel right from checking it out on the website, and all the way to ordering my burger. And, yes, they are in a similar area, (and I know this doesn't apply to everyone) but I really enjoyed driving AWAY from the city to find a good burger in a much quieter part of town - it really gives an adventure type of feel. It was reasonable cost wise, and my request to double up on the beef (as I was slightly surprised there wasn't a double patty burger) for $2 made me happy. The $2 side of chips would've been worth $8 too at Grill'd, which was another tick. The burger itself whilst still being enjoyable was missing something small - maybe a special sauce or something of the like! I have to stress this was only my experience of the downstairs section at an irregular event which as you'd expect isn't all that flash but I looked around upstairs and it's got pokies and also fails to impress. But they've got some rules in place: 1- There is no take away. 2- Limited number of reservations. 3- If you are waiting for a table, you gotta wait outside, on the footpath. Cause they are only licensed for 25 people at any one time. Lastly 4- They're open from Monday to Saturday 5:30pm to 11pm. After getting though the rules and reading some not so great Google reviews on the service, we were prepared for a pizza tasting venture. Word to the wise: If you can get here early, around six, you'll probably be set for getting a table. It's really just a small place. And it's in the most random street, in the middle of the burbs, where you'd expect a milk bar to be. Now, you probably want to know if it was the best pizza I think I've ever had. My answer would be no. Pizza is a tough thing to crown, it varies and usually always makes me happy. I ordered the salsiccia e cipolla, which is mozzarella, sausage and onion, with no tomato on a thin crust. Yes, it was tasty. But, the sausage itself wasn't adding much of a muchness to the pizza, in fact the onions were spread out enough for it to be just a onion pizza. This one was really crispy on the crust, almost like a flat bread being wood fired. Because it was thin based and not heavy on toppings, it was a light meal. It left plenty of room for guilt with their sweets, I mean, why wouldn't you. The chocolate mousse was good but I would've preferred it to be more fluffy and whipped, and the chocolate crumble cake, to me had something off about it. Maybe next time I'll just stick to what they won an award for, which was the margherita pizza. Oh and ignore those bad raps it gets on Google reviews on service. We were greeted, and seated promptly, brought wine, and had a smooth transition throughout our meal with pleasant service.
