It's not bad but the quality is not as good compared to the true restaurant on 33rd Street. I go to 33rd location all the time and was excited to get the express near my neighborhood. I've been to the express three times now. The prices are practically the same but the Xiao long bao has less soup inside and the skin is soggy. Also the passion fruit tea has no flavor, get the melon one is more flavorful. The sweet and sour soup is so good. I would still recommend but could use a bit more improvement on food quality to match the restaurant. Our food took quite a while to arrive--at least 30 minutes--which may have been due to a staffing shortage. We've experienced much faster service at Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in both Flushing and Midtown. That said, the soup dumplings were excellent. Like another reviewer wrote a few days ago, I also encountered the same rude staff member. Since I didn't know how to use the kiosk, I decided to order at the counter. I tried ordering pork pot stickers as a meal, and she said that I had to use the kiosk to make my order a meal. I'm not sure why she couldn't take my order at the counter. I then told her that I had trouble using the kiosk, and she made me feel stupid for not knowing how to use it. Clearly, Nan Xiang needs to hire people who are willing to help customers instead of rolling their eyes at them for needing assistance. As for the food, I waited around 20 minutes for my meal and the pot stickers weren't that great. I've had better Chinese food elsewhere. They were definitely not worth the 20-minute wait. read more

Nan Xiang has a real problem at the front of the house at their Brooklyn location. The staff is rude and does not care about their customers. The only reason it survives is because they have outsourced customer communication to computers: however, the people are so rude, even this action can't prevent the nastiness of the staff from ruining a meal out. After asking for some assistance with the ordering computer which was malfunctioning, I was ignored almost face to face with the counter person. I asked politely for assistance and was greeted with rude and childish behavior from someone who was obviously having a very bad day. She made a great effort to let me know in not too subtle ways that I was disturbing her and made it clear she thought I was stupid as if I'm supposed to be some kind of expert at working their ordering computer. I was going to leave, when I returned to speak to the manager. She went to him and I could see the manager, if that really was the manager, laughing at me with her about my problem. He then came over to pretend like he cared and touched me. What a weirdo! Who does that? You can come to this establishment but be forewarned, you may encounter people who are weird and are obviously miserable. They don't have any respect for the hard earned money we spend at their establishment. We have wonderful restaurants in Downtown Brooklyn with customer service, even at the self service places when you encounter an issue. There is absolutely no reason to treat the people who keep these restaurants going with such disrespect. I can only say that I feel deeply sorry for what ever these poor people are going through that causes them to lash out. I'm doubtful Nan Xiang will take action to reform the behavior of these troubled people- perhaps it's the company that is making their workers so miserable. read more

Really unimpressive Chinese. The Hot and Soup had a nice flavor but had so much cornstarch that it was literally glop. Made it unappetizing to eat. The dumplings were undercooked. The meat was okay, but the wrapper dough tasted partially raw. The noodle dish I got was equally medicore. The staff is as nice as they get for a fast food place. Love the chill vibes of this place! Came here with my bf for lunch and had a great time. We ordered their signature soup dumplings, crab meat & pork dumplings, shrimp pork wontons in spicy peanut oil, pork stir fried noodles, and grapefruit peach green tea. I was very excited to see a Nan Xiang dumpling place around as I was craving for soup dumplings, but I was very disappointed. For a Shanghainese, the brand Nan Xiang means the number 1 brand for soup dumplings and carries a high standard. Not sure if the "express" means I shouldn't have such high expectations for authenticity. The soup dumplings were average tasty and the skin was a tad too thick. The pot stickers' bottoms weren't even crispy. The old style scallion noodles weren't tasty at all and the texture was not good. Furthermore the service was horrible. It was unclear whether the customers are supposed to return the tray and throw away the garbage. There were tables that were not cleared during our whole meal, and we had to clear someone else's garbage for a table we'd like to sit at. No utensils were given when the food was brought to the table either. The soy sauce and vinegar bottles were generally low on supply as well. The free water tank was empty when we arrived but they did fill it quickly after we told them about it. I truly hope the management of the place can improve and live up to the standards of the brand. read more
