Word to potential costumers: be sure your tech confirms with you that they are going to provide the…read moreservice you asked for at the front desk (what you wanted and were willing to pay for) or they will default to the more expensive service without telling you and upcharge you. I have never spent money on something more uncomfortable and unpleasant than the manicure I just experienced. I walked in to Pure Lux and asked for a gel manicure. What I now realize is that I was given, and was charged for, a luxury gel manicure, which cost $20 dollars more and has left me scraping under my nails with a cuticle trimmer for the last hour. I was confused as to why the tech got out a mechanical device to file my nails, as I only wanted a basic gel manicure. But I'd never gotten my nails done here before so I figured this was the norm. At 45 minutes in, when the tech had not even begun to apply the actual color to my nails, I was incredibly confused. Why was a basic gel manicure taking so long? The entire process was so uncomfortable: it involved endless filing and mechanical buffing. My fingers were dusty and the tech's gloves manipulating my fingers felt abrasive and unsettling. All of the dry nail that the tech filed off made its way under my nails, and each gel coat caused it to set. The layer grew thicker and thicker until it felt the bottom of my nails was fused with my fingertips. I asked the tech to clean beneath the nails but she barely fixed the issue at all. At the end, I asked again for her to clean underneath the nails. She made another mild pass. I had to ask to use the tool myself and she seemed annoyed and exasperated that I was trying to take care of the issue myself to ease my discomfort. After the tech charged me, I looked at the website and saw the service correlated with the price I'd paid. It was not what I asked for at all. I'm incredibly frustrated that I not only had to sit in discomfort for nearly an hour and a half, but that I hadn't asked to this and paid more for it, AND that I remain uncomfortable now that I'm home. I won't be returning (although I may have to to get this removed--at this rate, it's all I can feel and I can't concentrate on anything else). If you decide to get your nails done here, although I don't recommend it, again, ensure you and your tech are on the same page re: the service you've requested or they will upsell you/overcharge you without your consent.

The salon was clean, sanitary and comfortable. My manicurist did stop during my manicure to get another client started with soaking off their gel. However, it didn't feel rude, rushed or disrespectful, not to mention the pedicurist continued working on my pedicure and I never felt like either technician missed a beat. It was truly a great experience, especially having my manicure done from the pedicure chair, what a nice treat that was. Thank-you Pearl Street Nail Salon for such a wonderful experience. They were able to fit us in with ease even day of. Nail artists were solid with designs, color selection was solid, I will give major kudos on the fact it seemed incredibly clean, not only the stations but also the tools. Where our issues lied: First, multiple people doing nails would just get up to work on other customers nails which delayed time for multiple patrons unexpectedly. The job generally felt rushed- this would be okay if the quality was also fine. One of my gel nails chipped within 24 hours of getting them done. Massive disappointment. The pricing was not bad at all, especially for a touristy area. But I guess you get what you pay for- cheap prices + rushed services = issues with product which I unfortunately faced. This place, I believe, would be solid if you're getting a super simple mani pedi last minute, need a single or two nails repaired, but would not suggest for full service if you're looking for a quality over price.
