2.5 stars. I came into Lille one week for less than 24 hours to have 1 meeting followed by a client dinner with my 2 bosses and 2 high-profile client stakeholders. THAT is what I wish all of my days would look like. It was a good day, with about an hour and a half of actual meeting where I had some good input and updates, and a decent dinner at N'Autre Monde.
It was a small restaurant with elaborate carved chairs with black velvet cushioning, and a menu entirely in French. We started off with a glass of champagne each, and an amuse bouche of a boldly flavored with lobster mousse caramlized red onions served in a tiny glass with a small spoon. The mousse by itslef was too salty, the onions themselves were too sweet, but together they were a well-balanced melody and an interesting flavor combination.
I started off with homemade coq au vin ravioli with celery root puree, which was pretty good. Fresh pasta with a filling and nicely textured and smooth sauce of celery root. I then had the filet de bar, a white fish with a perfectly crispy skin, served with a Savory / salty and chocolate sauce and mashed potatoes that had weird foie gras in it. The fish was perfectly cooked, but I'm not sure how well it went with the mashed potatoes and the sauce. I was a little confused by the mashed potatoes and sauce at first, but the two actually went very well together (foie gras and chocolate? Yum!)
For dessert I had the N'Autre Merveilleux, which was hard and the chocolate covered meringue served on a plate dressed with chocolate sauce and crunchy feuilletine. Not bad, a little too sweet, a little too large, but the feuilletine added a beautiful texture to the entire dish.
Overall not my favorite place in Lille. read more
