Instead, we had a tour that lasted about 1 hour followed by time on our own to revisit or explore parts that we did not stop at during the tour. This is not Casa Azul in Mexico City but it was worth my time and money.

I had an Excellent experience with Ellie. I thought the illusions were so much fun! The cake was incredible; it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the exhibit. This is especially good for people who like to pose for pictures or those of us who like to challenge ourselves to like the process. We (the photographer and I) had the entire place to ourselves, so we took a stroll around. I could see that if there were more people, we'd have to be strategic about where to start. It's a good time if you're in Playa and want to spend a little time in a museum.

Once inside we paid at a tiny kiosk then they takes you to the entrance. Once inside the museum you wait in a theatre for your guide collect you and to explain the art and take pictures for you. You will be given special sockets to wear as to not damage the art on the floor. The museum takes the top floor of the building. Amazing what you see through the lens of your camera. The building use to be a cinema and has been converted to a museum, Well worth a visit. The artist use to live in Playa Del Carmen, now lives in Italy. It's hard to explain it's a must see on your bucket list. To see the illusions through the lens of your camera or smartphone. We were there when the museum first opened so we had the whole place to ourselves.

The staff were very professional and helpful. I loved one painting so much and was allowed to take a photo. Well after we left, I could not get this painting out of my mind. I lost the card she gave me, but easily found them on Facebook. We communicated via FB Messenger and a few weeks later our painting arrived. Could not ask for better.

Mayan ruins on the Cancun Hotel Strip! Muy authentico!…read more This place is pretty sweet. It's a cool building, with cool architecture, but not too terribly practical. You have to get all the way to the top floor to see the exhibits. At the ticket booth reads a sign, "The galleries are hot. We have no air condition. No refunds." They were right. The gallery is up on the third floor. No, the elevator didn't work. Instead they had a corkscrew ramp that sent me going round and round and round in circles to get to the hot gallery at the top. The gallery was pretty small, with some pretty cool artifacts, and a human skull, with some awesome carvings, and some jewelry. All Mayan. So cool. There's also a temporary exhibit that had portraits of working Mexicans posing in the photos with the tools of their trades. Outside, is a super fun nature walk along an improved trail that takes you past several small ruins (one with painting still in the interior). The path terminates at a half pyramid that you can walk around, but not up. There's a small bookstore that seems lacking at the exit. It's a fun, fairly inexpensive way to get some art and culture on your trip to Cancun, to get to see ruins without having to go way out into the jungle is pretty special.

This is in the hotel zone. Our 7 year old kid enjoyed walking through the outdoor part through the jungle (searching for iguanas). It was nice and shady and peaceful. The indoor part was fine. This is a great cheap and easy activity to do after lunch when it's super hot and bright, to stay out of the sun! We could have taken a bus for 12 pesos or $1 USD from our hotel, but we didn't realize.

Underwater art museum! This is about the most inconveniently…read morelocated art museum I've ever been to. The only parking is thirty minutes away by boat. You gotta dive thirty feet underwater to see any of it, and all the art is all wet! Wanna get a photo of the sculptures? There's a good chance there's a fish that's gonna photobomb your shot. This place is hilarious! The art is poignant, creative, and fun. It's all lifesized sculptures of things like cars, people, and a bar scene. There's coral growing on the stuff, and fish all around. The sand is a light white, and the water is so blue and warm, it's a great place to check out some art. It's such a cool perspective to be able to circle around and see the art from all angles, even above or below with your ability to swim all around it. It's really fun to see the art this way. You don't have to dive with the museum itself. You can choose any of the dive companies, since there's no private property out in the sea, and anyone who knows how to operate a boat can take you out here. Diving was great, and visibility was par enough to be able to clearly see all the stuff underwater. The waters were choppy, which made for some currents pushing and pulling underwater, but it's a shallow dive and if anything goes wrong you can always just ascend to the surface from such shallow depths with much worry about anything going wrong. In two dives, we were able to take in about a dozen different sculpture displays. They're all near each other.

The great thing about this "museum" is you can see it diving, obviously, but also snorkeling, and even in those boats with the underwater view decks. You cannot beat this dive experience, because you can get so unclose and personal, but if diving isn't your thing, it still worth it to go snorkel or on a boat tour. i know this isn't your typical shipwreck, as I'm usually not a fan of "intentionally sunken" wrecks to dive at, but this was still so awesome even though it was intentionally put there. I mean these statues would be cool in a building, but not THAT awesome, however, putting them underwater in the crystal clear, turquoise waters of Mexico's Caribbean, there's a magical eeriness about it that makes is one-of-a-kind. I loved all the fish swimming in between all the statues. It's an easy dive, not too deep, with lots of swimming room.

Alright, here's what you need to know about this historic site…read more There are some really interesting things about this site, the longest Mayan Road, the arch for the gate, and some of the buildings are also fantastic. Even if they were rebuilt to some degree, they are pretty cool to checkout. There are plaques around the sites that explain things, but a guide will definitely help you time things better and keep you moving a little better. As far as historic sites go, I would give it a ~7/10, there is some interesting things to see, but limited. As other people have said, this feels like a scam in a couple places. The fact that you have to pay two separate entrance fees, then get solicited for a tour guide and pictures. But that's not too bad all things considered. A few tips, form your own group if you must, but the tour guide is per Group, not per person. Pack your own bug spray. Bring water. One of the entrance fees is cash only, so bring some cash too. As with all historic tours, it doesn't hurt to fact check. There were a few liberties taken with some details.

Cozumel doesn't have those giants -- but it does have San Gervasio, and if you're stepping off a cruise ship and want history without a full-day bus ride, this is a must-visit. San Gervasio was the island's most important Maya site, dating back to around 300 AD. It wasn't a military fortress or a massive city -- it was a sanctuary dedicated to Ixchel, the Maya goddess of fertility, love, and the moon. Women from across the Maya world would travel here on pilgrimage, offering gifts and prayers to Ixchel. That makes these ruins less about war and kings, and more about family, spirituality, and daily life. The site was rediscovered in the 19th century by explorers and archaeologists cataloguing Cozumel's Maya heritage. Unlike mainland ruins, San Gervasio's structures are smaller, smoother, and more subtle -- but they tell stories just as powerful. What You'll See: * The Temple of the Hands (Las Manitas): named for the tiny red handprints still visible on the walls, believed to have been left by the temple's ancient inhabitants. It's eerie and beautiful at the same time. * Several plazas, temples, and causeways (called sacbeob) connecting the structures.
