Wenderholm Regional Park - Great spot for a picnic

Wenderholm Regional Park

Beautiful lush trails along the waterfront, offering tranquil views of the headlands and ocean…read more There are about four or five different trail options. Do not be fooled by the time stamped on the map though. The 1.5 hr trail was a mere 45-50 minutes. I suppose it depends on your hike speed, but it certainly wasn't near 1.5 hours. I suggest the perimeter track (which is listed as a 2.5 hr loop) for some epic views of the Puhoi River, Moturoa Isl. and the ocean. There are rest benches along the ridge, so bring a lunch and enjoy the view above before making the trek down. The only issue I had with this park was the amount of stairs during the ascent. I'd say we came across three sets of stairs with at least 30-40 steps each! We assume it was for the preservation of the roots, or that the terrain was not very stable. Being winter season we caught our fair share of rain. I would absolutely like to return during a full Sun day. Especially since it's less than an hours drive from Auckland!

Here you will find such a beautiful scenic park, with a fantastic beach to swim at in summer…read more I love Wenderholm, there is so much to offer here. Massive old Pohutakawa's line the park and bloom to maximum beauty during the hottest months of the year. I really enjoy taking my son to the beach as its super safe, have nice calm waters, and also close by an estuary which is also brilliant for child play. Stunning views across the sea call for many hours spent lying at the beach, reading that fave book or building sandcastles with the little ones. Super facilities for the public; include lots of space to choose a private spot, birds roaming in their natural habitat, lots of picnic tables to use, and public bathrooms. Be sure to spend a day down at Wenderholm and be at one with nature.

Little Rangitoto Reserve - The wonderfully fun playground located on Upland Road, Remuera

I love this little park located in the heart of Remuera. It has to be one of the more fun…read moreplaygrounds in the area. With a swing set, a big climbing frame, slides, a flying fox and a skate board bowl, there is something here to entertain all the kids while you could be walking the dog (on leash only). Upland Road playground also has a lot of greenery for you to sit down on and set up a picnic for lunch or those summer evenings. Located incredibly close to Benson Road dairy, it's only a short hop and skip away to get an ice block, ending a perfect fun filled afternoon at the playground. I have grown up coming to this playground and have taken my siblings here a number of times. It's always a favourite; you just can't go past the awesome flying fox!

Plenty of seating for parents while the kids play. There is also a big flying fox, and a skate park for the bigger kids. To one side is a cliff that kids can climb up and have a little picnic at the top. We have had several birthday parties here. And heaps of grassy playing area! HEAPS! But note - if you are allergic to grass, this is the grass that will make you come out in a rash. Parking is on the road.

One of the best parks around in a busy residential area. I've been living in this area for nearly 8…read moreyears (or more can't even remember now!) and they just keep improving this park for the better. They have developed this awesome bike track for kids, complete with ramps and bridges and round about with stop signs (to teach them early about driving haha) and from the looks of it, all the kids in the neighbourhood LOVE it. I have tried skateboarding on this track and it's definitely harder so stick to scooters and bikes. The "big kids" playground is so EPIC with flying foxes (can never get too old for this but can be too tall as my bottom and legs will graze the bark), miniature climbing wall, tall tunnel slide, bridges, monkey bars oh my gosh you name it. Don't fret! There's a miniature playground for the little ones that's more safe and to a smaller scale and and really cool swings (for babies, toddlers or the big kids like myself! ) For the adults or the more adventurous kiddies there's a forestry/bush walk that really cool to have in a residential jungle. And they've cleaned it up, made better, stronger and wider walking paths. There's a big field for soccer, lacrosse, rugby etc and biggish public toilets next to it. A big pond with water coming in from the harbour and ducks (sometimes cute little ducklings) swimming lounging around and sometimes people race their remote boats in it too! There's a public BBQ by the miniature playground and also on weekends there's a coffee and ice cream truck on standby! There's just so much going on in this park that you can never get bored and probably never want to leave until someone has to drag you out hahaha
