I very much liked the proprietor and the shop, its just a shame he doesn't stock a slightly wider range of instruments, they're mostly Westfield/Sheridan (westfieldguitar.co.uk)
I bought a Sheridan semi-acoustic, which I am pleased with- plays and sounds good to me, though I'm more familiar with classical guitars - it came with a great case and a tuner built into the equaliser.
The price was about the same as listed on the Westfield site (Westfield are the budget range, they feel and sound very cheap too- you can get a better guitar for the same money, but not here)
I wouldn't have bought it at the price it was supposedly reduced from, but at this price I am v satisfied.
I tried a £50 electric too, and the action was fine as far as I am concerned- the sound too, though all electric guitars all sound the same to me. I just want one so I can play at night.
If I didn't hate shopping and suffer from crippling consumer paralysis I might have done better for the money by going to Denmark street, or even Harlow - but it was nice to be able to have a little strum without being surrounded by noodling idiots who think they're the next Steve Vai.
I can't believe the owner is 73 and has smoked like a chimney for 50 years - he doesn't look a day over fifteen. He opened his first shop in Sawbridgeworth, Bell St, in 1973- a year before I was born. If a few drops of his elixir of youth have seeped into the instruments (via some kind of magical osmosis?) then his instruments are better value than they may at first appear read more
