The 'Adventure platter' $44.99, good to share with 3-4 people
Jasmine L.

I've had Ethiopian food a couple times now, some of which in Toronto's Little Ethiopia neighbourhood, and judging by the constant flow of Ethiopian locals dining at Muya...I am pretty confident in saying that this place is an authentic gem in the Kitchener-Waterloo area! For 3 people, we ordered their 'Adventure platter' ($44.99) and their Coffee Ceremony ($10) which left us completely stuffed! I would suggest a party of 3-4 people to feast on this Adventure Platter. It came out on a huge round plate with injera lined on the bottom and rolled on the sides. Injera is their traditional sourdough flatbread, it's spongey and you use it to scoop up all the sauces and vegetables/meats the dish comes with. On it, the server individually places the delicious stewed lentils, collard greens, cabbage, split peas, sweet & juicy beef, super SPICY red & saucy chicken with a hard boiled egg, and (my favourite!) the buttery juicy lamb! Compared to the other authentic Ethiopian restaurants I've been to in Toronto, Muya has got them beat with HOW WELL they nailed their tender and juicy meats. All the dishes were so flavourful from being seasoned with its distinct Ethiopian spices! Lastly, the Coffee Ceremony ended our meal with the server coming to our table with a small pot of roasting coffee beans for us to smell. She later returns with a traditional coffee set and basket of freshly popped & salted popcorn. It's unfiltered so be careful when pouring it out. I don't normally drink coffee, but I could tell their coffee was very aromatic and smooth. //OVERALL// I'm so pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed every component of the Adventure Platter (and even their popcorn!) at Muya. Their service was basic since it was just one server, but she was polite and attentive nevertheless! I also found it super neat that they had traditional basket woven tables with stools around it for those that want to enjoy their meal like that.

Excellent Ethiopian restaurant. Great service and a great variety of vegetarian options. Great in prices too. Coffee ceremony- 10$ - totally worth it. While on a day trip to Kitchener, I choose to visit the place due to its outstanding rating and cuisine. I am thankful to all fellow yelpers, for guiding me to this place. I tried Ethiopian food earlier but couldn't-be so impressed as from Muya. Their Injera were fluffy. All the dishes served were spicy, aromatic and fresh. I loved their coffee ceremony-best to far. Instead of regular incense they used traditional Ethiopian frankincense. The server was polite and kind. she was modest while helping us ordering the food. She herself mentioned to order less as whatever we initially ordered would be too much for us. We were 2 and we shared a veggie platter. We could not finish the injera and packed the leftovers. Overall amazing experience.

They have the best Ethiopian food I have ever tasted. This restaurant was filled to capacity by the locals/people of Ethiopian descent when we walked in so we were almost certain that food would be great, and we weren't disappointed. The owner was very friendly and took time to explain us the options, offer suggestions about the menu as well as informed us about the Ethiopian customs. The other patrons were very friendly as well they also filled in on the Ethiopian customs. It was about so much more than just food it was a complete dining experience. The Ethiopian music video was playing as well so we enjoyed that while waiting for our food. After the food, we opted for coffee ceremony as it was very good. The coffee beans were roasted fresh in the kitchen and brought to our table for us to smell; if we like it. We did - so they used them to make out coffee otherwise they would have roasted them again or would have offered us tea instead as per Ethiopian custom. Our coffee was served in a Jebena with some popcorns on the side. They left a box of frankincense at the table as well to use as much per our liking. It's smell was very soothing. The coffee was actually pretty good. I would love to repeat the entire experience whenever I'm in Kitchener next.

This place was extremely relaxed which added to the good vibes. It was very clean and the staff was extremely helpful full. She took a lot of time to explain everything from the menu to how you were supposed to eat the food. I really enjoyed the lamb tips that they had. Very flavourful. The vegetable sampler is well worth its money. Make sure you get the spinach! Overall had a really fun time eating my food. Great for sharing. And the food was pretty good. Will come back for sure.

Really good authentic Ethiopian food, you do need to read the the menu to understand what to order. I ordered pick 5 vegan and my wife got the beef alicha kikil. Both were very good with injera. After read the glossary section, I picked these with the spices that match our spicy tolerance level.

Huge group platter with samples of lamb, beef, lentils, vegetables, and lots of injera! Recommended for 3-4 people.

Decided to visit here after reading rave reviews, and we weren't disappointed! We ordered a huge group platter with about 10 different types of dishes on a gigantic piece of injera... and every single thing was delicious. The spices and flavours were powerful but not overwhelming. The beef was tender, the lentils and vegetables were so flavourful, and the injera was wonderfully soft with just enough sourness. I could eat their injera all day. I'm actually salivating just thinking about their injera. Without even us having to ask, the owner brought out extra injera for us when he saw that we were running low. Amazing. This place is a must try in KW. The price is great for the huge portions you get. Can't wait to come back!

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Had dinner with my sister and mother. I was the expert as I had ethopian good before, but not an expert. Our server was friendly and very helpful in helping us selecting the right number of dishes, and nothing too spicy. She even let us sample o couple of extra dishes. We all filled and I got leftovers for tomorrow.

We sat in the front where there is like a tent and you could see outside interestingly enough after the front area you have the bar area and then the back area. Most of the people decided to sit at the back area, (more condensed tables) which I feel less cosy. There was a tent area in the very back, set up for a large group. In any case, it's great that they serve a variety of alcoholic drinks and has lounge atmosphere in the front area. They play instrumental music without lyrics that is very relaxing. Ordered the SELAM special for two it included three veggies and the chicken and beef tins which were not a lot of meat to be honest so we added a side of kitfo which was actually a good portion of meat. If I had the SELAM special for two without adding the extra, I would've been very disappointed as the meat amount is very little. The cost was $40 for the platter and $12 extra for the kitfo.

It would have been perfect if only the service was up there to match the food. The servers were…read morepolite and a pleasure to speak with, but all the long wait times were just unacceptable. It was good that we were sitting in a spot closest to the bar, at least it sort of made it easy to spot us whenever we call for service. I can only imagine how hard it could be for those sitting way out at the back. We had to call for attention several times to follow up on our requests for a glass of water and our dessert. For our order of cheesecake, we followed up at least 2 times (maybe more) but later ended up with a server coming back to mention that it was no longer available. I would have also appreciated it if they were a lot more transparent with everything. They should have mentioned if requests for injera costs more and by how much. The final bill amount was just a total they gave you shown in the machine. It would have been only proper to give a breakdown of all items listed to just double check if calculations were correctly done. The saving grace was that the food served was such a treat. I got the Ethiopian dining experience I came for. I especially loved the chewiness of the lamb that came with the Selam platter, and the people I dined with have good comments about the mushrooms, which were a part of the veggie options of the platter.
