By morning I mean when I finally got out of bed at 1 pm all jet lagged and starving. We went around the area a bit looking for some breakfast type food, which is as close to impossible as you can get if you're American. Breakfast in France is very different. We just really needed a solid meal. One that, apparently, only an Irish pub could understand. When we first walked by we were like "haha let's get breakfast at the pub". I looked at the menu and saw "English breakfast". I had a vague idea of what it was but I wasn't sure if I could handle the pub atmosphere at that moment. We kept walking. 5 minutes later, we're like "English breakfast". We were so hungry and it was right there and we could tell that the odds of finding anything other than a pastry was very little. I cannot even begin to tell you how glad I am that we did that. We found a perfect table outside, practically on the sidewalk, where we can eat and people watch. The waiter was great, he spoke very good English. He was really quick to take care of whatever we needed. The English breakfast was amazing. It had 2 eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, blood sausage, mushrooms, toast and beans. I was staying in Toulouse for a week. After a few days of the usual french breakfast of a pastry and coffee, I started fantasizing about the English breakfast.... One day I waited until they opened. The yelp page says they open at 10 AM but I didn't see anyone there until the afternoon. Finally, they were open! I went in and ordered my English breakfast and the girl behind the bar tells me they only serve it on the weekends. =-( I dried my tears and looked over the menu to see what else I might like. Fish n chips. Ok, there's no way it could possibly be better than the English breakfast. But, it could possibly be the best fish n chips I ever had. As a matter of fact, it absolutely without a doubt, was the best fish n chips I ever had. This story does have a happy ending. On our last day in Toulouse we got the English breakfast again. It was just as good as the first time. Highly recommend!

A few of us just ordered a simple green salad, but my sister ordered one with thin slices of beef and it was fabulous! I should have ordered that! My sister's bf ordered the charcuterie and his was nicely presented and very good too! As for beverages, a bottle of white wine and water sufficed. For our mains, our group ordered the following: Duck Confit, Baked Zander in a Pouch, Steak Frites, Pork Chops, Lamb, and Lobster. Everyone was pretty happy with their dishes. The duck confit was tender and tasty. The steak had a bit more fat than my sister wanted, but it was good. I had the lobster which came in a cassolette with vegetables and a really delicious broth with puff pastry on top and it was delicious! My husband's pork chop was good, but not as tender and tasty as the one he had at Chateau Léognan. He finished it and gave my sister and I a taste. We managed to save room for dessert. We ordered the Moelleux au Chocolat (molten chocolate cake), ice cream, and cheese. All were excellent and nicely presented. People skipped the espresso as it was about 10:30 when we finished our meal. Service was good. The restaurant had three large parties like ours and two servers serving all those parties, but they managed to attend to our needs. Everything came out hot and mostly at the same time. And when our server came by with our check (you have to ask for it in France), our total was 232€, about $58 per couple which includes service charge and taxes. So much more inexpensive to eat out in France! As we were settling our bill, a band started playing rock music (in English) inside the restaurant. Fourcés is a small village, so I am sure the whole town can hear the music. I'm so glad we decided to stop by Fourcés on our last night in SW France. Dinner was great at l'Auberge and this little town is so charming!

However when we arrived with a large group for lunch, they said the kitchen has closed and can't serve us. As in France the restaurant maybe open but kitchen will close after 3 pm. Hmmm. Long way to come out of the way for nothing. However restaurant next to it, le carrousel gourmand was will to take us in. Nice people.

I found out after I had one that he only said that because it was the only burger he had in Toulouse, but nevertheless I would argue that they do have a damn good burger. I was only in Toulouse for a short visit but in the few days I was there this was the only place that I became a "regular" in. The staff was extremely friendly, English speaking, and Simon somehow always managed to greet me like we had been friends for years even though we had only met once or twice in the past few days. I had a few different meals here, but my favorite was definitely the burger. One thing that was tough to get used to in Toulouse was that "cooked" meat meant it had been placed near a fire. Even for someone like me who prefers medium-rare steak, I had trouble getting used to how under-cooked they preferred their meat in Toulouse. The Classroom, however, understood the meaning off the word "medium" when I asked for my burger cooked that way, and that was very much appreciated. Overall, if I ever find my way back to Toulouse, I will definitely make my way over to the Classroom.
