This was a very cool, eclectic shop. I've never wanted to buy a rug so badly, lol. And I may feel even older because I got excited over a carpet, lol. There simply were too many interesting things. I am certain I could have spent hours inside and still not taken in everything. The back rooms had what I look at as apothecary chest- tons of little drawers, if you can picture it. Except they had several of them and every drawer was filled with different jewelry findings! Beads, clasps, bails- you name it. At the front of the store were a bunch of felt hats that were also incredible. We were greeted when we entered and checked on a couple of times- I really enjoyed this shop. Don't be fooled by the name: this is not a shop selling musical instruments and sheet music. I mean, sure, there are a few instruments to be found within (bells and whistles and whatnot), but this surprisingly spacious store is so much more than that. Populated with gifts, goods, clothing, accessories, jewelry, home décor (rugs! so. many. rugs!), hand-carved wooden furniture, and curious curios collected from the far flung corners of the world, exploring this place is a treat in itself. It's a self-contained bazaar in a building. The employee who greeted us was enamored with our newborn son, and gave him a free finger puppet, which apparently they do for every little tyke on their first visit, which was a sweet touch. My wife ended up purchasing a few trinkets and a necklace chain, but we spent more time ooh-ing and aah-ing, while conversing with the attendant, more than anything. The store is very spacious and has several rooms. Some rooms have signs that let visitors know to ask for help when interested in certain items. I walked inside Music for the Eyes in the middle of the year a long time ago. I remember asking about musical instruments. I told the counter person that I could play violin... but I was a student at a local Junior High School... so I didn't yet own my own guitar. I asked a few questions about where the instruments were procured. I was told overseas. I was very happy. But,... I hadn't been allowed to purchase anything by the guardian who accompanied me. I was told I needed to save my money for graduation. So... I did. I didn't mind being pushed out the door when a person who owned a gun arrived while I was asking questions. I guess there are a lot more people who own guns that are going to look inside this location. I didn't get to ask some of my questions... and I was a little sad to leave Langley, Washington on that afternoon. I was driven to a nearby location and asked what would my younger brother like. I said... probably a viola of his own. My guardian and I drove in silence back to Port Townsend, Washington... which was where I lived back in the 1980s. But,... I have had dreams of going back to Langley, WA to visit Fred... and ask more questions about the musical instruments. I didn't own a camera back then. I was given a camera by my guardian a few years later. I didn't like waiting for the Washington State Ferry to Langley, WA. I did like the muffin on the return trip though. Visited this shop and they had very beautiful pieces lots of jewelry making supplies which excited me since I make earrings and found a shop close to home to get some cute pieces from. Until I started hearing the woman at the front talking to customers saying the most horrible disrespectful comments about our military and just bad mouthing them and the jets and about the people who like the jets. I will never return here and spend money at a business that'll talk so poorly about our amazing hard working military and disrespect all my family who have served. They open at 11AM and we were lucky enough to be just outside admiring the large carved wooden statues when Naira opened the doors. Rugs everywhere. Walls with strings of beads. Glass art. An old accordian. But mostly rugs, including a clearance stash behind a door in back and an upstairs room packed with more rugs, colorful jackets and wraps and a table of odds and ends. This is seriously a fun shop to browse through! Though it's mainly a rug shop, this isn't your going-out-of-business rug place. Naira offered us cheerful suggestions, would run up to tell us something else as it occurred to her and was really fun to talk with. We ended up buying a lovely little rug whose origins she was unsure (the label had been crossed off), but as it happens is a woolen prayer rug. It's gorgeous and we absolutely love it. Of course, the fact that my boyfriend referred to it as being written in Klingon amused us, too. :) If you're wandering around Langley, wander on into this shop. I was passing through Langley for work and stopped by this store. It is AMAZING. If you have any interest in anthropology this is a place you must visit if you live in Washington state. They have an overwhelming collection of artifacts from the mid-east and some phenomenal Tibetan jewelry. You can spend hours in this store just looking at everything. Of course I could only make off with a pair of earrings, but I will certainly go back for a rug in the future. Also, Nara is great. I wish I could say I had a good experience at this store. I desperately wanted to. My mother was very excited to show me this cool store. I have a medical alert service animal trained to alert me to frequent surprising medical episodes. He's fully trained by a program and was impeccably well behaved. Right from the bat after entering the store one woman who worked at the store came up to us and confronted us telling us to leave in a way that put my guard up. I informed her that it was a service animal, my medical equipment, and legally had the right to accompany me. She informed me to "take my medical equipment and leave" and when I responded with the simple phrase that he was fully trained and needed for my disability. She allowed me to stay and brushed off other employees when they tried to educate her. When I finally checked out and left, she made an offhand comment that wasn't the nicest. Mainly for other service animal handlers and those with disabilities: I found that this individual was discriminatory and unwilling to educate herself even when provided with an ADA law card. I wanted to love this store and was very sadly disappointed. read more

I have been wanting to visit your shop for 20 years. I have a collection of objects I have picked up in my travels, ie: Egypt, Middle East, Turkey. My birthday was last weekend and I traveled over two hundred miles to celebrate with purchasing something from the shop. When I walked in there were no customers @ the counter. A woman was re-organizing carpets. I asked about the shop. She basically ignored me. She went up to the counter to take care of some purchases from another customer. I wandered around and found a vintage Uzbek Ikat caftan on the top floor. I had been looking for one for many years. It was just what I wanted. I didn't want to take it down the stairs to the counter because of the signs stating they were vintage. I also want to ask questions before I made the purchase. May I also state I am disabled and use a stick for stability. I was totally ignored. The woman said she would be with me after "making a phone call to a friend". I had already been in the shop for 3/4 of an hour. I had been will to spend whatever it took to purchased a caftan in fairly good condition. What a rude woman Just because I was dressed in casual clothes, doesn't mean I don't have money. A real disappointment after waiting so many years, and cannot travel abroad due to my health. NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS. They might have nice, interesting items for sale. But, who wants to be ignored! read more

This is the best store of its kind I've found in the U.S. The range of items available - which includes carpets, textiles and jewelry - is very selective and of consistent interest and high quality. What's more, their prices are very reasonable, especially when you compare their outstanding selection of rugs to the ridiculously overpriced carpets that one finds in regular oriental rug stores... you know, the ones that always seem to have an amazing 50% off sale - which brings the price down to only three times what you should be paying (seriously, it is literally cheaper to fly to Istanbul and buy carpets there from a good dealer than to buy them in most big rug stores in the US). Fred and Sharon have spent a huge amount of time in western and central Asia and they clearly know their stuff. As someone who has traveled extensively in Asia myself - and who has bought more than a couple of rugs from Turkey - I have been consistently impressed with the quality and price of items at Music for the Eyes. This is the kind of place that my shopaholic friend dragged me to because she knew we'd love it in there and the kind of place that my non-shopping friend says, "I'll see you later" because it's not her thing. Oh, I just love places like this - incredibly wonderful crafts from all over the world. Why yes, I want an Ikat pillowcase for $29. Do I need it? No. But I should get props because I even know what ikat is, right? So I walked away just $15 poorer, not bad. I got a lovely bracelet and a little Tibetan prayer bell for my garden. I was planning my first trip to Whidbey Island, and scanning Yelp for possibilities...and am I glad I did! This is a delightful shop, full of beautiful items from around the world. Their prices on rugs are excellent, and they have gorgeous jewelry and beads, plus embroidered bags, hats, textiles, and a wide variety of objets d'art. They cover all price points; you can find gorgeous earrings for $12 or a large, stunning rug for $1200. DO NOT MISS the little clearance center in the very back, where I discovered a necklace, similar to the one I'd dismissed as a bit too spendy for me, at half price. Sold! They were even willing to swap out a different chain on it when I asked (which required minor surgery with pliers, but she was willing to spend the time). I've only had it a week, but have received compliments from at least 6 different people on it... My friends and I spent a lot of time going, "Hey, look at this!" "Ooh, didja see THIS??" The staff is helpful and fun to talk to, yet unobtrusive...which I like, since it takes me forever to make up my mind about things and I need time for silent cogitation. They also are apparently a center for the arts in the town, as a meeting about a dance project took place unobtrusively around the piles of rugs while we were browsing. All three of us found something (or several somethings) to take home; it was a fun and memorable shopping experience. There's also a water-side park just a few steps away, which was convenient for our lunch (sandwiches from Pickle's Deli in Clinton, which we'd picked up on the way in). A total diamond in the rough: who would have thought that tucked away in this tiny village on an island was a store with so many museum quality carpets, clothing, jewelry, artifacts, cushions, and furnishings from exotic parts of the world! We almost missed this at the end of the village street but then spent over an hour browsing...and ultimately buying unique jewelry and a silk carpet from Pakistan, at incredible prices. The owners are former career State Department people who learned the byways of Asia, Russia, and the "stans" in the Caucasus and Middle East, and after retirement continued to travel and use the store as an excuse to go back to their old haunts and find treasures you couldn't find in a major US city. This shop was pretty incredible. To be honest, from the outside I wasn't all that intrigued, but many shops were closed for the day (Superbowl Sunday) and we were pretty much happy to find something open. I am so glad we did! The owners worked for the Foreign Service for years, so they seem to have a really great knowledge of where to acquire great finds for good deals. The rugs were gorgeous--particularly a number of Iranian ones with really subtle patterns. Sharon seemed to have a good stock of rugs in a lot of different price points. There was also a good deal of decently priced jewelry, and a lot of pretty inexpensive beads. If I was a jewelry maker myself, I certainly would have snagged some! I ended up getting a really beautiful silk headband that was only $10, and many knit items nearby were temptingly priced, as well. It was a neat selection of really cool finds at reasonable prices. If I had the money for a carpet, I think this is where I would get it! They also reminded us that if we shipped anything out of state, it would save us from paying sales tax (and on a purchase that big, that would be a decent deal). Where do I begin. On a trip that was half business half vacation, I found myself on the island and had to stop and share "music for the eyes" with my partner. Even if you are not planning on spending any cash this is a must see spot. There is carved furniture, rugs, jewelry m, beads galore, hats scarves, you name it they have it from all over the world. It is truly a feast for the eyes. On this trip, we had a day to explore and while at the register (I always end up buying something), MaryAnn was friendly and inquisitive. Upon knowing that we had the day on the island and she proceeded to without a map and basically mapped our entire day. From breweries, wineries, cemeteries, Ft. Casey, state parks, major gardens, fruit markets, a lighthouse, beach and the best rhubarb pie and muscles we've ever had! Way to go MaryAnn! We literally caught the last ferry back that evening. What an amazing store! We landed on this one late in the day (they were one of the few that stayed open later so we lucked out). It is truly a feast for the eyes - lovely imports from all over, beautifully displayed and knowledgeable owners. Not only that, they had dog water bowls freshly filled outside and to top it off, I left my wallet in the store and they offered to mail it to me and refused to let me pay for the postage. I think this store is a great find! I would call it quirky and interesting, and if you are interested in local art or asian rugs and are in the area, it is well worth your time. Local artists are featured in the shop and one of my favorite things to look at are the giant wood art sculptures. The nice thing is that you can go really high end (on some of the antique carpets), or you can just browse and pick up some day to day glass art (like trivets or coasters), or some eastern asian earrings for what you might have in your wallet. There really is something for everyone. If you have some time, talk to the owners -they've been all over Asia, and have some great stories. This store is such a gem! Every time I make it over to Whidbey I have to stop here and drag whoever is with me to check it out. Friends and family always love it just as much as I do. There are lots of items - art, rugs, clothing from all over the world. My favorite bit is definitely the jewelry - so many rings, bracelets, necklaces, and beads ranging in price from extremely affordable (a few bucks) to the more expensive (several hundred bucks).
