In Ferentillo, along the Nera River, hides one of the most interesting ... and important ... places in Umbria -- Museo delle Mummie (Museum of the Mummies). The Museum is housed in the crypt of the church of Santo Stefano (St. Stephen). From the 16th century until early 19th century, the deceased of the area were buried here. In the crypt, we find perfect mummification of bodies, as well as frescos from the 14th and 15th centuries. I first visited the crypt in 1994, and twice since then. read more
