What a cool museum! It was kind of a pain in the butt to figure out how to book a ticket online, but honestly, you don't even really need to. If you just show up at one of the three daily tour times, I don't think you need to worry about pre-booking.
At my tour time, I was the only guest, so I got a private tour with an awesome guide. I don't remember her name, unfortunately, but she was great! We spent about an hour slowly climbing up the Specola, stopping at each floor to explore and chat. One super cool feature here are the Chinese maps, one of which was made by Matteo Ricci. Wow!
The view from the roof is a great capper and meant I didn't need to pay to go up the towers later, either.
This was really one of the coolest things I did in Italy and a great, great value. read more
