This company was assigned to me by my home warranty company to install a new hot water heater. While installation is covered they wanted to charge me nearly $1,000 to bring it up to code. Not a problem until you look at their charges; $120 for an Electric Union which costs $4.00 at Home Depot and $130 for a $25 Drain Pan. I could go on but you get the idea. Whatever you do, definitely check their prices. They are a ripoff and appear to prey upon people who don't do their research or are desperate to get the job done. read more

I had plumber from Murray's Plumbing come out on May 14th to address a leak. Not only did he not diagnose the source of the leak but in his report he stated It's Not a plumbing problem. It's coming from the deck, roof or windows. Because of this, I got someone to look at my roof, deck and window and the water. Continued to leak in my house because he steered me in the wrong direction. The owner said sorry and would not come out and take responsibility. I had a bathtub that was backing out blackwater and I was seriously disturbed. I used my home warranty and got set up with Murray's plumbing and heating to snake out the clogged pipe. Luckily I got Mr Al (I believe his name is Alan), an older gentlemen, and Dante who help me troubleshoot the issue. I noticed that usually older gentlemen are more cordial and helpful than younger technicians, but that is generally the experience I had so please don't quote me on it. Mr Al and Dante were both professional and courteous. I cannot vouch for the entire company as a whole or other technicians, but I can say that these two gentlemen did a great job getting me out of this tough situation. read more

The people at this company are so unprofessional, waited 4 days before they cams out and when they did i was told there is no leak when there is and he told us to go to home depot to fix it ourselves! The phone correspondent was very nice; that was the only positive. The technician showed up, did a minimal amount of troubleshooting, told me he couldn't help, then left. He didn't introduce himself, he was extremely short and rude with me, and of course, he didn't leave his name or number when he left. He clearly just wanted that sweet AHS fee.( ° °) I like to think that the positive reviews on Murray's are real and I just got a crappy technician, but more realistically, I think they're faked by Murray's or AHS. Not good is an understatement. When the original plumber came he smelled sewer water (his admission today on his third visit,) and based on an opinion from a previous plumbing company decided the hit water tank needed to be replaced. His "inspection" was to shine his light in a circle around the tank. Upon replacement of the tank that did not need fixed, the technicians "found a small leak" in the sewer line and said they would repair it for free. Odd that a company would volunteer to repair something unless they realized it was the actual problem. Original plumber came yesterday and "fixed" the leak. This morning, I awaken to more water on the floor. They come back (day 4) of lost leave rime at work, and during our conversation admitted the original tank didn't need replaced. After an hour of looking found the leak but refused to fix it. Said their boss wouldn't pay to fix it for free after having said they would fix it for free after replacing a perfectly good hot water tank. The boss, Ray, said he couldn't afford to fix a 12 foot piece of pipe for free. I said it was only a 4 foot piece and he said, " Why would my guys say 12?" Admitting they lied to him. But Ray decided after having been lied to by his guys that his guys would never say a hot water tank didn't need replaced. Well, they did. So, I'm summary, -they smelled sewer water and never looked for a leak in the sewer pipe. -replaced a tank that didn't need replaced. -found a sewer leak and said they would fix it for free. I was assigned Murray's Plumbing and Heating by my home warranty company. They called to schedule an appointment which had a window from 7am-4pm. It took me four phone calls to get them to finally reduce the window to only 4 hours. They also agreed to give me a call 30 minutes in advance. On the day of the appointment, I received a text message from my home warranty company that a technician was on their way. I called Murray's Plumbing and they claimed that they attempted to reach me 30 minutes earlier. I did not have any missed calls so I pleaded that they stay until I arrived. They reluctantly waited 10 minutes for me. The technician, Allen, walked into my home and asked what was the matter. I explained that my copper pipe under the sink had a one-inch crack that was leaking. He immediately said that he wasn't able to do the job and returned to his vehicle to call the home warranty company. He returned 20 minutes later to tell me that I had been reassigned to another company. I find it hard to believe that a crack in a pipe is unfixable by a plumber. I am also distraught that after waiting an entire week and taking a half day off from work, I will need to start all over. Thankfully, my home warranty company reassigned me to someone else that has been pleasant, professional, and willing to take on a cracked pipe. Please be warned that Murray's Plumbing and Heating will completely waste your time! Their scheduler is terribly rude on the phone, one of their plumbers is unable to fix a cracked pipe, and it appears they are only taking on home warranty claims that they find simple. One last tidbit to share. The lady who answers their phones said "I don't care if you write a bad review on yelp. We just pay a few bucks to have it taken off. Been there, done that." My home warranty company assigned Murray's plumbing for a leaking valve. I received a call the next day from a very nice person who arranged for scheduling. I called on Weds and they scheduled for Friday. Plumber called about 30 mins before arriving. James was very nice and quickly identified the cause of the leak and repaired it. He also took the time to explain the problem and repair and made sure the leak was not continuing. He told me not to hesitate to call back if it started up again (although he was confident of the fix). I was very happy with the service provided. read more

I submitted an AHS request for a pipe leak, and Murray's Plumbing and Heating were assigned as the contractors. As a landlord, they interacted with my tenant, but the plumber incorrectly determined that the valve needing replacement had been previously worked on by another plumber. This was inaccurate, as no work had been done on that particular valve before. I spoke with the tenant, and she mentioned that she had told the plumber "yes" when asked if there had been a plumber there before, which was true but for a completely different issue. Due to this incorrect assessment, all charges were to be covered out of pocket by me. Additionally, they quoted $850 to replace the valve, which I had replaced the very next day by another company for $350 with a warranty. Just like the other reviewer, he came into my house complaining about how his company micromanages him. He quoted me a huge bill; meanwhile, this was the second request after the first plumber did not complete the job with care. He called my insurance company and they denied the claim. Murray's Plumbing and Heating was dispatched to our house by American Home Shield after we discovered our kitchen drain pipe was leaking in our crawl space. George was sent to our our house who diagnosed the problem as a slab leak that would need the concrete removed to repair the broken cast iron pipe but advised this could only be done on a Saturday as to not interfere with their other house calls during the week. The work was quoted to be $2800 and we were on the hook for $1800 of that bill. Brad was sent to our house to perform the work and immediately began to complain about the job once he started. Things like "OH THERE'S SO MUCH WATER" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS" echoed through my home as he performed his work and incited a panic between my wife and I. He called his supervisor multiple times to loudly complain in the back yard about the work which led us to believe we had a major issue on our hands. He informed me that there was a void under the concrete slab and that my house was at risk due to this void. We were terrified that our house was going to fall over and he advised that we should contact our insurance company immediately due to the "severity" of the problem. He stated that he did not have the concrete to repair the slab but we shouldn't repair the concrete until a structural engineer could inspect our home. We paid our bill and he left under the promise that he would return to repair the crawl space once our home was inspected. We spent the week before Christmas convinced our foundation was crumbling and our house would be falling over at any moment. We hired Kemp Home Services to perform a structural inspection who informed us that the slab the plumber was working out was not our foundation and that crawlspaces have settlement all the time and this was a pretty normal finding for a house built in 1950. The water that Brad was complaining and panicking over was actually the water table that is under EVERY HOME once you dig to a certain depth. An experienced plumber should know this according to the home inspector. We paid $800 for this inspection and for the peace of mind that our recently purchased house was not going to topple over. I called Murray's Plumbing multiple times to have them come back to repair the concrete and nobody has returned my phone call for the past 2 months. I've since given up on reaching them and am now dealing directly with American Home Shield which has proven to be just as frustrating. I've called over 10 times to either Murray's or AHS since Brad left that day and I still have a hole in my crawlspace with no end in sight. If this plumber is assigned to your house DO NOT accept it and ask for any other business to be assigned. I truly wish I had read the reviews before giving Murray's Plumbing my money. Don't know what these reviews are about but I just received the best....I said the BEST service EVER from any plumber in all of my years as a home owner!!! The Murray's team were sent to my home for a secondary opinion requested by me through my home warranty for a leak in my ceiling. What's so great about these guys?! Firstly, ON TIME, COURTEOUS, and KNOWLEDGEABLE!!! T. Mayes plumbing came to my house and misdiagnosed a ceiling leak - stating it was from the roof. HOW?! It's in the center of the room on the lower level with an entire room above it. Murray's plumbing arrived today, walked in, was told what the previous guys told us, gave a stare then CORRECTLY diagnosed where the leak was coming from and FIXED it all within 30min!!!! And took the time to EXPLAIN everything to me!!! Murray's also went above and beyond and contacted my home warranty to let them know the previous company misdiagnosed the issue. I like many other reviewers was assigned this company from AHS. They were nice enough but as soon as they arrived it was apparent they didn't want to do the job or complete the repair, they were just there for the service fee. We have a sub pump that would not shut off, their inspection consisted of looking at it with a flashlight, saying "Weird there are 2 pumps in there" and that the 4" drain pipe was larger than what was needed and the whole pump needed to be replaced. They then let me know that AHS likely wouldn't cover it because it was in the garage not the home. I explained to them that the garage is the foundation of the home because we live in a home that is built into a hill and the bedroom is directly above the garage. He argued with me and then told me to argue with AHS (mind you I wasn't in the least bit combative just trying to give him the ammunition he needed to get the repair approved). When he came back in it was with the news that (no shock to any of us) AHS wouldn't cover the replacement of the pump and removal of concrete. He told them in the estimate everything needed to be replaced and part of the concrete slab needed to be removed to access it (the area was easily accessible). He cited the fact that they wouldn't cover it because he told them the pump wasn't for groundwater only and told me to request a 2nd opinion. Why would I need a 2nd opinion unless everything he reported was false just to have an excuse not to do the job? My guess is the pump just has a small clog from all the rain we've had, but not being a plumber myself, I lack the tools and confidence to make this repair. They've taken a simple job and inflated it so it would be denied and they could leave and pocket the dispatch fee. Scam doesn't even begin to describe this. read more

As if everyone else in the world has the luxury of just being 'on call' for an entire day. Both times I had them out I requested to be scheduled in the afternoon, and both times upon calling at 7AM, was told I was going to be the VERY first call, so clearly that request was completely disregarded. I left a message and received a call back within 10 minutes. The lady who called( I forgot her name) was very professional and cordial. She gave me their next available appointment with time frame of 7am -4pm, and I was happy they were coming 2 days later and not a week later. On the day of service, I was the first appointment and received a call bright and early 11/02/23 informing me technician was in route and AL arrived on time, very professional and pleasant. He came in, diagnosed the issues and soon after began the repairs. AL was very knowledgeable, he treated my home with respect, he cleaned up very well after and made sure everything was working properly before leaving. I will definitely call on Murray's again. We discovered that an upstairs toilet was leaking in a pipe to the downstairs room. We called our home warranty company and they assigned the job to Murray's. I called after hours on a Thursday night and did not hear anything until Monday morning, but when the lady called she apologized for not getting back to me on Friday. They sent someone out the same day she called me and he found the leak and repaired it promptly. The service technician wore a mask and was very pleasant and friendly. I was concerned when I saw some of the other reviews, but we were very pleased. I am actually making note of the companies name so that we can request them if we have to call our Home Warranty Service for a plumbing issue again. read more

I am compelled to add my two cents to help ease some minds. Like many others, I have American Home Shield and was issued Murray's Plumbing. I submitted my request on the 16th and got a call from Murray's the same day. I of course missed it but when I called them the next day they picked up. I found the woman on the phone pretty pleasant. I was given an 8AM-12PM time frame and they came around 9AM so that was nice. Now, I can't speak on their actual work because American Home Shield denied our request BUT I will comment on the individuals. I didn't catch their names, it was an older white gentleman (I think his initials were AD) and a middle-aged African American male. Both guys were super nice. They were polite and didn't have any problem answering my questions. They gave me some pointers (like calling Baltimore County to come snake their side and see if that works). They were pretty straight with me and didn't try to sell me anything. Once I found out AHS wouldn't cover it I said I was going to try something else before hiring them out of pocket. My dad happened to be here helping me with another project and he even noted that they were good guys. If nothing else I will say the experience was pleasant. Walked in looked at damage, went upstairs and said my problem was caulk before he even walked into the bathroom. Clearly my pipes are leaking into my kitchen and it has nothing to do with caulk. They caused more damage than they fixed and my toilet and shower are still broken. Technician arrived with an open and bleeding cut on his head. Broke my shower handle which was not broken before. Replaced the parts in a Toto toilet with generic parts and now the toilet no longer functions as before. Was told I'm not entitled to those parts. Technician drove all over my lawn for no reason as I have a circular driveway. Technician could not find his way out of my townhouse 3 times. Murray was sent by American Home Shield. I had to wait 3 days (Wednesday) to get a tech here to tell me he couldn't do the work needed and I would have to be rescheduled to get the clog removed from my kitchen sink. I was rescheduled for the following Saturday. I was told my drain wasn't up to "code" and it would be over $850 to fix. I called another plumber that arrived the next day and advised the "code" was BS. my drains were normal. They did a Compleat replumbing of the drain for $435 done the same day and that cleared my clog. Murray will be happy to gouge you for unnecessary repairs as long as your willing to wait a week. I had a great experience using Murray's Plumbing and Heating Inc. My service was fast and done within an hour for a new water heater installation. I had an exceptional father and son team, Jeremy and Ray Sr. as my technicians. They were both friendly and knowledgeable. They were careful and not a trace was left of them being there. I was worried about my white carpet but drop cloth was put down and old water heater removed. New piping, line and pan installed unlike the outdated equipment that was there before. They tested everything before leaving and straightened everything back perfectly. I couldn't ask for a more pleasant experience. Had them come out 2/6 (my home warranty company contracted them) for a potential main water valve leak. We were told it was "ground seepage" and not a leak.
