Strawberry salad with arugula, radicchio & fennel
    Kathy C.

Munno continues its stellar Michelin cooking into 2026 with some menu updates, fabulous cocktails and lots of daily specials. We started with a negroni cocktail and a munno spritz. Both were excellent! We shared a strawberry salad with fennel, radicchio & arugula, which was plentiful and lovely'. I ordered the special Risotto with asparagus & mushrooms. I surprised to see it plated and almost flattened to a single layer. It was excellent, and I think it was the texture and taste of the risotto cooked just right. My partner had the Nduja pizza and he was equally impressed. He liked the thinner crust and the smoky flavor overall.

Very well kept secret but One of the best authentic Italian places in Chicago; Simple dishes made with fresh ingredients no pretentiousness. They mainly have Roma style cuisine but will branch out with a rotating seasonal menu. Every time we go we try a different pasta and a pizza and it's always uniquely good.

Chef Adam, Chef Mark and the Staff have made this a go to place to dine for me, The Queen and The Doctor. They do not disappoint when it comes to their dishes, from the Antipasti, pizzas and pastas. What keeps us coming back for dinner is the creativity and innovation that is brought to their pastas and pizzas. There have been some amazing pasta dishes that still hurt my heart that they have not returned, but there is always something that comes along to ease that pain. But I said it then and I will say it again, that Maltagliati alla Genovese (hand-cut pasta in Neapolitan Beef & Onion Stew sauce) was life giving! It was sooooo good! That said, the ragus made with rabbit and wild boar were chef's kiss! The pizzas are very good and can in themselves be a meal if you are not a pasta person. While there are regulars on the menu, Munno introduces new ones as a special. And kudos to being so accommodating in making a cheese only pizza for our friend's daughter who doesn't do red sauces the way I do. She absolutely loved that pizza! An appetizer I miss is the Salumi plate. The slice meats were fresh as you could see them slicing it for the plate. And it came with this lovely panna fritta. That bread was absolutely prepared fresh and was delish. Service is always great. Everyone is attentive and on top of us as far as checking on drinks, food arriving on time and together. As I said in 2019, I was sure Munno was going to be a restaurant that landed on our rotation of places to visit, and that has turned out to be very true. And I love that they are now on OpenTable as that is an app I use to make reservations a lot. Not being a dessert person, I don't usually rave about that portion of the meal, but I will say Munno has stepped up its game for me. There was a very delicious rhubarb strawberry tart with gelato that was amazing and a recurring chocolate pudding that I love (can't remember the name, but it starts with a B...get it!). Munno for eats has become the equivalent of The Hopleaf for drinks, they are like Fam now and have our full support, unless Chef Adam sells to someone else, then all bets are off as those new folks are going to have woo me hard.

The food did not disappoint! I couldn't stop going in for another piece of pizza. The crust was soft but crunchy, the leeks melted in your mouth and was a great combination with the pork sausage. The simple chocolate pudding had me tearing up. It was a perfect whipped cream to chocolate ratio. I cannot wait to go back!

Came here for Valentine's Day and had one of the best meals I've had in Chicago. Came here with my partner and we ordered off of the special menu. The restaurant was cozy each table was set with a beautiful single rose centerpiece. We ordered the giardiniera with autumn veggies, beef cheek ravioli, and a pizza with prosciutto, mushrooms, and a white sauce that reminded me of cacio e pepe. The stand out for me was definitely the pizza -- the dough was crispy and chewy and made every bite exciting. The autumn vegetables were really interesting - I've never had a pickled parsnip before! It was quite busy because it was Valentine's Day so sometimes service was a bit slow but the food and friendliness made up for it! Can't wait to come back for more pizza!

We made a reservation for two (this was back in May), and they were able to seat us even though we came a little early. Our server was very personable and checked in on us throughout the meal. The server mentioned that the patio is available in the summer. We ordered the capricciosa pizza and a pasta, but it looks like the pasta is no longer on the menu. Highly recommend the capricciosa! The ingredients were packed on top so you got a delicious bite every time. The pasta with meat sauce was also delicious. I believe it was goat. The goat flavor wasn't overwhelming, and there were plenty of pieces. The portion size of the pasta wasn't as big as I was used to but sharing a pasta, pizza, and meatball between two people was the right amount of food. The food is amazing, but it is pricey. It's a nice place to go when you want to treat yourself or for a special occasion.

This place was in a very walkable and quaint part of the city. We were able to sit outside. The inside is very small, so reservations are a must. We went for a friend's birthday and were impressed with the food. It reminded me of Italy. If you want a nice experience, this is the place.

Tagliatelle agli Asparagi Pappardelle al Ragù di Coniglio

A friend and I came here for dinner as I've been wanting to try this place for years since I moved to the area. Made a reservation online the same day but they didn't have any availability until 7:15pm even though we were planning on eating earlier. Fine, no problem! When we arrived, the hostess was super nice and took us to our two top table. We looked at the menu and decided we should do an appetizer and stick to pastas since we both separately had recently had pizza elsewhere this week. We chose the croquettes (Suppli al Telefono) to start and then I ordered the Tagliatelle agli Asparagi pasta and my friend got the Pappardelle al Ragù di Coniglio pasta. Overall, everything we ordered was very meh to us. There wasn't too much of a wow factor nor much flavor in general. The croquettes tasted like something I honestly could've purchased at Costco and heated up in an air fryer which is quite sad to say. The pastas were ok, but the noodles themselves were hard and overall not much going on with the taste buds. We each tried each other's pastas and agreed. Maybe it's our fault for not ordering pizzas since this place is more known for their pizza? Could be! I do think though that if they have a nice selection of pastas and the menu as a whole isn't that extensive, that the pastas could at least be better for the price point. We walked out of there basically paying $100 for everything with tip including a spritz cocktail and a Coca-Cola. One thing I want to also mention is that my friend asked if he could add chicken to his pasta and the server said "sorry we don't have chicken tonight", but didn't offer any recommendations or other potential substitutes. You'd think their goal is to upsell? Additionally, our server never checked up on us during the course of our meal. Not sure if that is standard protocol or they're trying to be as authentically Italian as possible (service-wise) but we definitely noticed that. It wasn't until it was time to pay when the server seemed to what to have a conversation and be extra friendly with us (as we were looking to select our tip on the mobile payment machine no doubt). Long story short, I think I'd only return just to try the pizzas specifically, but our experience in general didn't make us really want to run to come back.

Super glad to have eaten here. The restaurant occupies a corner at Clark and Leland and it has a very warm, inviting atmosphere from the moment you enter. The staff are welcoming, smiles all around. Impeccable hospitality. For food, we pretty much just ordered off the specials menu they had that night. Minestra di Cannellini, Farro e Verdure -- we started off with this bean and veggie soup, where the Parmigiano broth did not disappoint with its cheesy flavor. It was a comforting dish for a winter day. Pizza la Mia Preferita -- next came the pizza topped with bufala mozzarella, basil, sweet preserved Campania tomatoes, prosciutto cotto, wild arugula, Parmigiano, and olive oil--supposedly this was the chef's favorite. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The dough and crust were pillowy soft and crispy. The ingredients presented strong flavors. Gnocchi Gorgonzola e Radicchio -- since I had a hankering for gnocchi, I opted for this cheesy creation of fresh potato gnocchi, sweet gorgonzola, butter, radicchio, rosemary, and balsamic drizzle. The blue cheesy Gorgonzola aroma was present throughout every bite, with the radicchio and balsamic punching through in a nice way. If you don't like blue cheese or bitter veggies, skip this. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Mezze Maniche Broccoli, Guanciale e Pecorino -- we also decided on this pasta with roasted romanesco cauliflower, Italian cured pork jowl, pecorino romano, garlic, and black pepper, but opting for gluten-free pasta. The outcome was a very nice, comforting dish. Overall, this restaurant possesses all the qualities of a place I'd love to frequent. If I lived close by, it would certainly have a spot in the weekly rotation.

We wanted to try Munno since it was the Michelin guide list and we have been on a hunt for hidden gems lately. We didn't have a prior reservation but were able to walk in on Sunday evening. We started off with the tomato risotto croquettes which weren't great. We next ordered the spaghetti which was so good, we ordered it twice. We also ordered the Quattro Stagioni and the Tanti Formaggi pizzas. The pizzas were a let down, mainly because of the dough. The dough didn't taste fresh, lacked flavor and had too much semolina. The ambiance is casual and very Italian. The server was sweet and took our feedback well. I don't think I will be back. Giving this place 3 stars just for the pasta.

Munno continues to WOW me with every visit! I actually discovered Munno on Yelp and was SO glad I did. Their pizza is unlike anything I've ever had -- and it is TO DIE FOR!! As you can see in the photos I've added, it's an oval-ish shape, and a bit on the thicker side (for those of us who are bread-lovers, this is a very good thing). The toppings also have always been fantastic. I've tried the diavola sbagliata (not too spicy!), the prosciutto rughetta con burrata (so, so good), and a special they had one evening with pistachio and mortadella. All of them were truly outstanding. I wanted to visit again and try the pasta, so we ordered the cacio e pepe. It was also delightful, and had soooo much creamy sauce, we dipped bread in it after (scarpetta, anyone?). I love that Munno seems to be a hidden gem -- but I will do my best to spread the good word about it, because it truly is outstanding!

    Pizza Quattro Stagioni

Munno is now on my short list for high quality / upper crust (pun intended) pizza! I ordered the Pizza Quattro Stagioni and it is everything an olive / mushroom / artichoke lover could want! The pizza is flavorful, slightly salty (in a good way) and the perfect balance between crispy and floppy. The restaurant recommended one pizza per person which seemed accurate albeit I was very full after. The service was very friendly, knowledgeable on the menu, and checked in our table regularly. The restaurant is clean, has an open kitchen which is fun to watch, and has a cute Italian theming Overall, if you're looking for a more gourmet-type pizza Munno is worth a stop.

They have delicious wine, cocktails, and bites for nearly half of the regular price. I opted for the happy hour prosecco to drink, which was light-bodied and not too sweet. We split the meatballs and dates for bites and both were outstanding. I was super impressed with how tender the meatballs were, and they did not skimp on the flavorful marinara and cheese! The dates, which were topped with a white wine cheese sauce, were mouth-wateringly delicious and a must order. There was also complimentary focaccia with olive oil, which was greatly appreciated. With sea salt on top and a crispy exterior, I could easily have eaten a whole loaf. The only note I have is that the portions are small, so if you don't come during happy hour the prices are a bit steep for what you get. John's is Michelin recommended so I said- sign me up. All I knew going in was the accolade and that the chef preferred to do hyper local- which im all about. The vibes are perfect IMO. Cozy, clean, organic shapes with that bar (see the featured photos). It also has a relaxed enough vibe that despite the prestige it is truly a more formal/casual vibe- being there on a sunday I saw a handful of small groups come in no res just looking for wine. The food itself was pretty good. I thought the pork collar was cooked well and they did what I was hoping a hyper local produce focused place would which is not over cook the vegetables and let them shine. One note: assume way more complexity than the menu displays. The pork itself for example is listed as just the pork veggies and with its sauce so my expectations were hesitant - but what made the dish great was the tang that comes from the seasoning/marinade. What really stood out to me though was the staff- it could be that I was there in a dead hour but everyone put me at ease as a single server at a table (v bar) and my server even gave me a taste of their amazing bandaged cheddar - which as a huge foodie really made my experience great. Because theres no way im easily grabbing that cheese. SO as well to their wine director Felix especially. He and I connected over the ceramics they feature (Monsoon Pottery- check her out) and when I spilled some sauce on my white shirt he was quick to get me some soda water and I heard him asking around for some shout. So- formal/casual place but I felt treasured. Which tbh is really what makes good restaurants different to me when youre hitting this price point in chicago. Plenty of POS fine trendy places down town.

North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.
