First off, I'd like to say pay particular attention to their "accessibility" page on their website as it's a bit hidden and I didn't see it before I went: http://www.muncaster.co.uk/accessibility
I was surprised to find the castle was a half mile walk from the car park. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes! The is apparently a closer car park for anyone who would have trouble with the walk.
The walk to the castle was quite nice and I have to admit I enjoyed the walk, the view from the front of the castle down on the valley and the owl centre more than the castle itself. I was unimpressed with the castle as there were only a few rooms open to the public since the family lives there.
The audio tour is extremely long-winded and my husband and I both quit using that very quickly or we'd probably have been there for hours.
I suppose it was something to do but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, really. There are a lot of things I'd love to take my family to when they visit from America but this is certainly not one of them. I really didn't find it worth the money. read more
