We stayed in the Caboose. Yes, it's a real caboose, but it's been outfitted with a little bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom complete with a nice shower. And YES, it has central heat and air. It would sleep three comfortably with a little person in the upper berth. The accommodations were not fancy like at a bed and breakfast...but the real treat is the location. Our caboose deck was practically ON the water. Take a look at the photos to see. Note...this is not the Holiday Inn. You will see the occasional spider. You are in the country. Would you like to go tubing down the Medina River...you're set! How about some paddle boating or canoing on the lake? Maybe some swimming. Would you rather take your camera out at sunset and photograph about 70 axis deer eating dinner? You can check all these off your trip itinerary without leaving the grounds. And while it's called a ranch, they do not have horseback riding on site. They have goats, but I do not suggest riding them. The folks at Muller's Ark can hook you up with some wranglers. It costs less than going to a dude ranch...dude--$80 to $120 a night as compared to about $200 per person per night at some of the dude ranches I priced. We saw deer, armadillos, alligator gar (in the water), bunnies, cats, dogs, goats, peacocks, etc... We did go tubing. We floated on the river through the other guest ranches visiting with other folks for about 2 hours. We had to hoof it a little because my daughter saw a harmless green snake and FREAKED out in her usual fashion. But other than that...which I can't really blame on Muller's Ark--the trip was great. read more

I love this place. My mom stayed here last year, and I'm here on my own this year on the way to and from Central Florida. You have a giant lake with canoes and paddleboats (kinda old and falling apart, but they work), a river, livestock and super friendly hosts, Steve and Patsy. I stayed in a trailer known as Mobile 2, which is HUGE. I also came with both my German Shepherds and that wasn't a problem, so long as they stay away from the sheep (my older boy used to go to herding classes). Like the previous poster Dena stated, this isn't the Holiday Inn. I didn't find spiders, but a bird nesting on my patio. It's cool to see deer come up to your trailer, along with several jackasses and sheep. I will definitely come back here in the future. read more

Great hideaway spot! The owner is the nicest person you will ever meet and will do everything possible to make your stay pleasant. We stayed in our RV between the Caboose and house. The property is beautiful and wild and the river is so clear and refreshing with excellent access. The ranch also has a ten acre lake and it's filled with feisty perch that can't resist a worm on a hook. We didn't see any bass this time around but we were told there are bass in the lake too. This spot is a little rustic but it's well worth the time and money for a weekend visit. I'll certainly be back. read more

We stayed in the river house on the Muller's Ark property. It was wonderful. You have to be ready to be in the hill country - doing not much more than walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, animal scouting, fire building and having driving into the little town of Bandera your biggest daily event. We were looking for just that - we saw loads of deer, peacocks, birds - it was very relaxing and serene. The River House is set on top of a hill with the river not actually visible from the cottage. You have to walk down a bit to see it. We were there in January '12 - so the river was VERY low. The house has a kitchen with old appliances - so don't expect to cook all of your meals and have everything fully stocked. You will need to bring drinking water with you - although the ranch owner has the water tested yearly and it is deemed well above safe. Bring your own soap, shampoo, etc. Towels are included. The cottage has a television and DVD player - bring your own movies if you want to watch anything. We built a giant bonfire and were totally supplied with wood. We arrived for NYE and found a cute little restaurant called the Brick Cafe to have a really nice meal...for Bandera! Mullers Ark will be a great place for families, couples and groups of friends to enjoy the outdoors. It was so much more than I expected - we will be back to tube the river in the summer!
