Fun for all ages! And for different types of outdoor fun…read more In Bountiful, UT- if you drive up 1800 South, to the foothills, you'll reach the entrance of Mueller Park, and Mueller Park trail. There's plenty of street parking available for people wanting to simply hike on the trail. If you venture in to the national park area, where there are picnic sites; the cost is $8. There is a small river (usually low enough that I feel comfortable letting my kids wade in it) at the trailhead. The Mueller Park Trail is open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. The trail is well-groomed. And it's not too difficult. I mean, my two-year-old doesn't have much of a problem navigating it... It's the ideal place for my young family to go & be in the great outdoors. The trail is wide enough, that it doesn't inconvenience anyone when a mountain biker needs to pass a hiker. The scenery is breathtaking. I believe it's 13 miles to the top of the trail. Maybe someday we'll get there? These days, the most my kid's little legs can take is 2 miles. For now, though, the Mueller Park trail is the perfect afternoon excursion.

Or you can continue up the mountain where the trail will split so that you can either hike the BST, or hike over to the City Creek Trail that is closer to Memory Grove Park. I just hiked up to the overlook today and I was able to clock in 7.4 miles. The overlook has great views of Salt Lake City, Great Salt Lake, and the mountains. It gets very hot (as do all trails in this area) and has no shade. Wildflowers galore, and they are in full bloom right now if you like hiking trails with flowers. Be careful of the bees. **Info for mountain bikers: This is a narrow piece of singletrack with very tight switchbacks. Some loose baseball-sized rocks, tight corners, and rocky steps make this a challenging climb ending at the foot of Crag's Trail. Per the Salt Lake City Foothills Trail System Master Plan, this trail is rated as Black Diamond and is only open to all uphill users, with downhill bikes prohibited. (Lots of bikers going downhill today. Not cool) Of course there are always rule breakers as the case today. Trail is narrow so hard to find a place to pull off the trail, luckily it wasn't crowded today. Dogs are allowed on trail if leashed. Please pick up your doggy bags and throw them away. *No restrooms **Limited parking #leavenotrace

A stream cuts through the park, creating a relaxing and peaceful space. There are several displays that commemorate the spirit of freedom and liberty in our country. The installations invite you to reflect on these foundational ideas. Some of the installations were in disrepair and could benefit from some TLC. Still, it's worth a visit.

There is a constant elevation gain, and some spots were a little rocky. Next week the wildflowers should be in full bloom as they were just ready to pop open. Trail was pretty quiet when I started out but when I was ready to leave bikers, hikers and families with dogs were starting up. Lots of dogs were off leash despite signs saying to keep your dog on a leash. This has got to be my first hike where the trails had good directional signs. It helped a lot. I like that there are separate trails for the bikers. I ended up doing the loop trail 4.1 miles.

I love that the trails has markers every so often to ensure you are not lost. The other great thing is there are so many great scenery shots that you can get great pictures! Also, there is a outlook where you can see most of north salt lake and also the golf course as well! Family friendly! The only think that I was a little intimidated by was the narrow paths because a lot of people mountain bike the trails so you stop from time to time to let them pass by! I would also say that it's definitely one of the easier hikes around the salt lake area as you don't feel much elevation pressure when walking up the trail compared to Ensign Peak being very steep and you're out of breath(or maybe it's just me ‍ lol) Definitely try it out and tell me what you think!!

The trail can be crowded at certain times of the day/year and it can seem confusing because of lack of signage/multiple spur trails but you really can't get lost if you keep heading towards the mountains. This trail is dog friendly! And the dog owners are very respectful and responsible. Which makes this trail even more fun to try!

Finding the actual trail can be a little bit of a challenge. From the road where everyone seems to park, we started on a shaded, tree-lined trail that looked promising. But after a short jaunt, we arrived in a dusty, tree free area with trails going in lots of directions. The group in front of us took off like they knew where they were going, but I wasn't fooled by their confidence. Yay Me! But BOOO on the existence of trail markings. I reviewed the map and pointed my hiking companion and I to the trail I thought was most closely aligned with GOOGLE maps and AllTrails. Service was a little spotty. Luckily, it all worked out! The trail is a solid 1000-1200 feet of elevation over a mile which is a solid click of UP. Bring water as shade is rare and the trees are really more shrubs and bush size. The living room area is superb, but depending on the time of day, VERY congested. The seats will feel like the best chair you've ever parked your tired rump, and you will begrudgingly give them up when the crowds form around you.

Last part of the road is not maintained and can be had for small cars to get up. Lots of shade on the trail you will follow the creek all the way up until you get to the waterfall. Bring poles if you have week knees and/or ankles. There is a makeshift swing half way up the trail kids like to swing on. Oh I forgot to mention this is a single file trail, and is extremely narrow in some spots. If you are not careful, you could easily slide off as the sign says. **No bathrooms available
