Blue Shell is kind of awesome…read more I came here in May 2009, on my second night ever in Köln, during my first trip to Germany. It happened to be the 35th anniversary show of the venue. A totally ridiculous cover band, the Silk Rabbits, was playing, and so for a minimal amount of money I enjoyed some fun music, excellent people watching and delicious Kölsch. Since then, I have not been back, but I have kept tabs on the venue, and I see that a lot of good acts are playing there when passing through town. I hope to someday be back.

Staff was unfriendly and very unprofessional. The place is very run down and could use an investment to update it a bit. Even though videoing and picture taking is allowed in the concert and is even stated as being allowed on the Luxor website the owner spent the entire concert harrassing people who chose to do so by shining a flashlight at them or standing in front of concert goers blocking their views. The .50€ euro deposit on drinks is a joke. If I have the chance to see my favorite band and see the Luxor is hosting it I think I will decide not to go or travel somewhere else to see them.

I'm not sure if it is always like that but they have this confusing voucher system where you have to purchase a certain amount on the door and then present it at the bar and they cross out the amount. If you buy €10 and then decide to stay for another stiff one (and that's the only stiffy you'll find, I'm not complaining, it's veeery lezzie here) you gotta go upstairs and get another voucher. Let me just say, by the time you leave you'll have pockets full of cardboard coupons. I hope they recycle well. One rude member of staff at the door didn't ruin it for me but it's Germany, the language itself sounds rude and dirty, so maybe she was nice.. or rude. Generally good atmosphere, efficient bar tenderesses, so I guess it was all right. Won't be going back though, not my cup of tea.

It was strong and tasty so it was worth the money. We sit in the backroom, which they only open incase of full-guest-night. But nevermind, when the bar got emptier we got transferred to the entrance seating area. Everything is good, although music got a bit too loud and hanging out becomes shouting out at each other while talking. That is when we decided to head for the underground dancefloor. It was divided into 2 sections, upper part with mini bar and pole platform, and lower part with DJ spinning. The music that night was Terrible. it was a mood-kill. The DJ must be New or maybe he just broke up with his GF/BF. Why?? because the music changes every 20 seconds, like in the middle of a music sentence it just switches to another song. Everyone was pissed off and booing at the DJ. I feel bad but it was a really bad ambience for the dancefloor. i mean can you imagine people dancing like Elvis and have to cut their moves because the song just changes Tempo? - Opps! But, the service was great, and the bouncer/security outdoor were very friendly and nice, which is the reason why i put moderate rating than bad on this night. Sort of funny, we get in and the place was absolutely packed, squeeze ourselves past the bar and suddenly nobody, wait what? People just like standing close to the bar, even if not ordering anything. Funny people. We got downstairs and boom, totally different atmosphere and music, everybody was dancing and having kind of a better time than upstairs. It was kind of strange, there were mostly 20 something year old people and then some 60 something year old guys, it was freaky! They were literally just trying to score! LOL Prices are higher here, you know, location and stuff, plus lots of students. "Let's make it more expensive, we can claim we're exclusive kind of place" All kinds of music, but mostly Summer hits.

I believe that it was because my wife and I are black, and represented ourselves well. We were sent from entrance to entrance when we got there, and they were incredibly disrespectful to us. They also heard us speak English, and got even more disrespectful with us. We were embarrassed, and it killed our entire trip. I suggest NO ONE spend their money at this club. It's a waste of your time, and money.

Wir konnten noch nicht mal unsere Sachen (Fahnen, Pullover, leere Getränkeflaschen usw.) vernünftig packen oder das Abschlusslied, welches von Platte gespielt wird und (zumindest gefühlt und inoffiziell) fester Bestandteil des Tourprogramms ist, genießen. Jugendliche/Kinder sind hier gar nicht willkommen. Unter 12 Jahren kommt man nur mit Kapselgehörschutz rein. Vernünftige Kinder-ohropax, die bestimmt besser dicht sind als zu große andere Ohrschützer, werden nicht akzeptiert und man muss trotz Ticket draußen bleiben oder wenn man Glück hat noch irgendwo neue (billige, die dann gar nichts taugen) aus dem Baumarkt kaufen. Ist angeblich gesetzlich so, dann haben sich die anderen 30 Clubs in den letzten zwei Jahren wohl nicht an die Gesetze gehalten?! Waren noch viele andere Probleme mit den Türstehern/Security Personal. Sowas schlechtes und unprofessionelles habe ich noch nie erlebt. Schade, so macht man einen ansonsten schönen Club kaputt.

Cool place, different events, all kinds of music, nice concerts…read more Very alike to Sonic Ballroom just bigger, and mixed. It's not very well located, i mean for what people in Cologne are used to, a bit far, "wrong side" of the Rhine, etc. But it's really cool, looks like an old warehouse made to a club. Really underground from the way it's done, somehow a Berlin-style club. If you are into alternative not mainstream stuff full of college kids, this is the place to go.
