We visited one for breakfast in Baie-Saint-Paul a few weeks ago for breakfast and I gave it five stars. Since it is a chain, this one also gets five stars. We toured this location, but chose not to eat there for lunch. However, we will be back to try it another day. The inside is small with some seating. The pastries, sandwiches and bakery items were similar to those in the Baie-Saint-Paul location. There were quite a few people in the store who had discovered this place and were ordering lunch. It was actually quite crowded. We will return to eat here.

We've been spending a good amount of time in the Magog area this summer, so we've had a chance to…read moretry many of the bakeries in the area and Dorville clearly comes out on top. Patisserie Dorville has a surprisingly wide variety of quality items. Their selection of course includes bread, pastries and cakes/tarts, but also includes local cheeses, homemade jams, chocolate and cured meats. We've tried a variety of their chocolate which has been great. In particular I really love their bars with dark chocolate and berries which are excellent. We've also had a number of their tarts, cakes and pastries. The strawberry-melilot tart in particular was both beautiful and extremely delicious and the chocolate eclairs where delicate and not overly sweet. Just delish! We have also enjoyed the bread that we've tried from Dorville. I must admit that I'm often sceptical when a bakery tries to tackle such a wide variety of items. But here at Dorville they have managed to do an excellent job with a variety of offerings including their chocolate, bread and pastries.

There's a separate door on your right to enter and off to your left is the line for the ice cream. The menu is on the top and all of it is in French. Someone ahead of us was being served but we noticed that the two men behind the counter were both serving one customer. While we looked at the menu another man we had seen previously came in and walked ahead of us. He hadn't been in line so I asked politely if he had priority and he and the two boys said yes. When he was served the boys still hadn't made eye contact with us nor did they offer to serve us. We both asked for service and neither boy acknowledged but eventually asked what we wanted - in French. I asked if they spoke English and one boy said he did. I actually had to ask if we were invisible but no response was forthcoming. Finally we were served, but it took longer than it should have, with each of our orders being separate and mine being last. When I finally got my come, a family came in and both boys greeted them! The cones were delicious but those boys need a lesson in non-discrimination if they want to stay in service. I felt personally discriminated against and will tell others about this experience. I am originally from Montreal and used to be reasonably bilingual before I moved to the States. I have been to many eateries since I've been back to visit but no other place has made me feel that I wasn't wanted, until I came to this place. Shame on them both. C'est n'était pas une belle expérience chez Harfang des Neiges

They have a couple of tables inside and a bunch more outside. The lady is super nice and is willing to explain everything about her products if you are a new customer. I hope this place lasts a long time here! Definitely worth a visit.

One of the main things I wanted to do while visiting my sister in Knowlton was to visit the Café…read moreThree Pines which I had the privilege of visiting with one of my sister's friends. The café is located underneath the Brome Lake Bookstore and can be accessed via the outside or through the bookstore itself. For those of you are familiar with Louise Penny, brilliant author of the Inspector Gamache series, you'll feel right at home in Three Pines as you enter this cozy space. If you look hard enough you just might see Gabri or Olivier, or even Ms Penny herself. When you walk over to the counter, you'll be greeted by one of the lovely staff and then your eyes will be drawn to the menu, and the heavenly aroma of baked goods and freshly brewed coffee. To your right is a station with napkins and cream for your coffee, and don't forget to look up at the container of jelly beans with paper muffin cups alongside, in case your sweet tooth doesn't get sated enough. I forgot to ask why there weren't any licorice pipes but I'm thinking they're not easy to find anymore. Lots of cozy sofas and chairs dot the café so you can enjoy your goodies, and a couple of "fireplaces" on either side of the space adds to the warmth of the atmosphere, although they don't generate real warmth unless you use your imagination. I will be back again before leaving town just because it brings Three Pines to life and there's always that possibility Louise Penny will drop by. PS Everyone in the café and bookstore are bilingual (French & English) as are the books sold upstairs
