You would think an establishment named 50's Diner would play 50's music right?? Kinda campy with the old posters on the wall. Service is good most days and portions are good for the money.

The prices are beyond fair, the food is made PERFECT and delicious with a great size portion. But what stands out more than anything is the unbelievably amazing service. One of the greatest if not THE greatest service and hospitality I've experienced.

They accommodated my request to make a gluten free garlic bread with cheese with no hesitation, now that's service!! That's the one and only (ok 99%) thing that separates them all! When you have great service and you treat people nice etc... everything is better!!! The gluten free garlic bread with cheese was the best, the bread was soft and just the right amount of cheese. The rib eye was cooked perfectly and the whole meal was excellent! And the veggies were not over cooked and nice and crispy! They even had gluten free desserts! Wow! A must if your in North Bay or driving through!!!!

Day one was a nice grilled pesto chicken wrap with goat cheese, but it was the southwest corn chowder that ruled the meal. Less hungry on day two, so I only bought the red lentil and apricot soup. Weirdly sweet starting out (what did I expect?!), but it soon settled into a complex mix of flavours, and was incredibly satisfying on a chilly northern Ontario day. I don't expect to be back this way anytime soon, but will certainly return here to dine again when I do.

Ambiance was nice and had an old school charm to it. I asked for suggestions cause everything sounded really good and the staff recommended the short rib. It was delicious. Super tender short rib on top of a Parmesan risotto and some greens. Flavor of the short ribs was great and everything complimented each other with great balance of flavors. Service was great and wish I had another another opportunity to try another dish!

I said but what about the remainder of the $50 . Her answer was the whole amount has to be used and did not offer a credit note for the balance. Sorry but to me this is outright theft. So we ordered an order one escargot and an order of fish and chips to share. The atmosphere was beautiful with a lovely view of the water, shaded patio and cool breeze. The wait staff were all very attentive and so friendly. The food arrived quickly and piping hot. Starting with the escargot. Beautifully presented, bubbly, cheesy but not too cheesy with some nice bread for soaking up all of the garlic butter. Each morsel was perfectly done, not rubbery and the addition of caramelized onions was wonderful. They did not last long. The fish and chips came with four pieces of pickerel that were battered in a very light and crispy batter that was perfect. It complemented the fish nicely. And the fries... fresh... hand cut, skin on potatoes. Now I admit I have not met a potato I didn't like but these fries are right up there in the top 10. Accompanied by the homemade tartar sauce and garlic aioli, it was a wonderful break from our long drive. Will we be back on the drive back through town?
