I thought I would need a brand new antenna costing more than $400 installed since my antenna is more than 25 years old (here when I moved in) and looks old compared to my neighbour's fancy new digital antenna. Tom arrived on time (calling me about 30 minutes before arriving) and immediately checked my system to find out what was wrong. He said it was a miracle I had any channels at all. He investigated and quickly found a bad connection hidden within the house wall cavity - an old tv outlet had been removed but the cable, although not used anymore, was still there and was joined to the main cable with a few turns of some wires. Unbelievable! So Tom cut out the bad piece of coaxial cable and joined what was left together with a proper fitting. Then he re-tested the signal strength and found a great strong signal. Whereas I could barely get Sydney's Channel 7 before (even though the transmitter in Kings Cross is only 2-3 kms away as the crow flies - actually I can see it now from my dining room), I can now watch the Wollongong channels! Very happy. And what did this cost me? Just $120 (service fee plus $21 parts, including GST). Tom from Mr Antenna is highly recommended. read more
