Moya was a great find in Jim Thorpe. First we went to the bar upstairs and met one of the owners. She made me a great drink ( actually told use how to make it-we made it last night and it was delicious! ) We then had an amazing dinner made up of a couple Tapas dishes. ( the chef is the other owner) . Maxine their daughter was our waitress and she was knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a very nice experience with wonderful service and food! read more

Just fantastic! Think tapas style dining so you're not confused by the arrival of dishes. I took my elderly father here, and while it was loud for him (lots of hard surfaces), he thought the food was great and was super impressed that it wasn't just one good dish, but all of them. We had the apple fennel salad, potatoes, tuna and flat iron steak. Thrilled to find something so good in this touristy of a place. read more

For those that have been to Jim Thorpe, PA you know that dining options are relatively limited due to the size of the town however this in no way reflects the quality of dining you can find. Moya is that hidden gem on historic Race street, parallel to Broadway(which is the main strip in the downtown area). Your visual senses will be equally tickled by the cute cottage exterior and color scheme as well as the minimalist interior featuring orange walls, hardwood floors, and modern paintings. They do not have any beers on tap but they do have two menu pages of bottled beers from around the world as well as a decent wine menu and cocktail selection. The pomegranate martini was not too sweet and rightfully stiff. The Goat Cheese and Asparagus salad was mouth watering. The goat cheese(not at all pungent) was panko encrusted and provided a wonderful contrast in texture and flavor against the roasted almonds, red beets, and light lemon vinaigrette. For the main courses, I tried their Grilled Tuna topped with a mango salsa and Crabcakes(with a cilantro/curry sauce) which were both delightful and just the right portion size. In my experience, the majority of coffee served at most mid to high end restaurants serve is watered down and stale, however I was shocked to find Moya's coffee(chocolaty and creamy), a joy to my discriminating coffee palate. My father took my husband, son, and I here for my birthday dinner. As a casual fine dining style restaurant we did not think twice about bringing our toddler. When we finished our meal and had just received the dessert menu our toddler was getting a little excited, making some loud sounds and laughing and giggling. The staff asked us to either make him quiet or leave. We left. Right before this they kicked out another family with a toddler, I don't think they were even served their food. Will absolutely tell all families to avoid this at all costs since they welcome kids in but don't actually want kids there. For reference, I have a very well behaved, age appropriate toddler. We came again, this time, bringing my 13-year-old foodie son. Ordered octopus salad, pappardelle, mote pillo, potatoes, short ribs, fish special, and shrimp. Everything was amazingly delicious and our server, Maxine, was lovely. She recognized us from the last visit and was so friendly with our son, treating him like an adult. Moya is definitely worth making a trip to Jim Thorpe for, it's just that good! When we were done with dinner, as it was already near the closing time, we met the chef, who was sitting down for a bite after a long day of preparing delicious food and we expressed to him how truly special Moya is. We went to Moya for the first time last night. The menu is small, but the food is fresh and delicious. Portions are small and things are al a carte, so the prices add up. The only downside was being greeted by our server w a reprimand to my 13 year old regarding the cup of coffee he had in his hand from our walk around town prior to dinner. Mind you, it was Victorian Christmas and 40 degrees outside. Perhaps she wanted him to stand in the cold on the street by himself to finish the last two sips? That was not the best start to what was otherwise a good dining experience. read more

My husband and I went to Moyo for the second time last night. We were extremely impressed with the food the first time and were looking forward to returning there. We found our new "favorite place". Unfortunately, our experience last night changed all of that. We love the idea of the small plates to share. We ordered the rigatoni bolognese and the short ribs which we had there the first time, along with additional sides. We also decided to try the rack of lamb as well. After a few bites I noticed they were extremely salty. I waited for my husband to finally try them, and he said they were terribly salty as well. We called the waitress over and ultimately asked to speak to the manager. We were told since we "ate more than half" of them, there was nothing they could do. By the way I had two pieces and my husband had two pieces. Evidently I should've taken a photo of the remainder that went back. Instead of being told that they were sorry that we were unhappy with the lamb, we were told that we were the only ones in the place all night who complained about the ribs. She couldn't imagine that just maybe the cook accidentally added too much salt? Instead I was repeatedly told that it was sea salt (as if that matters) and over and over again she asked me if I knew how expensive the lamb was. (Yes, I knew because I was the one paying for it!) She said if it was pasta it would be different. We were made to feel that it was our fault since we ate too much of it (we didn't) and we were the only ones who complained all night. I can assure you, it takes a lot for us to express dissatisfaction. The Marion Hose Bar in Jim Thorpe (I highly recommend) eagerly insisted on making me another martini because the vodka they used was not the right one. The bartender actually came over to personally find out if I was satisfied. We know a restaurant is a tough operation. Things happen. In business, customer satisfaction should be the priority. The owner of Moya, was very defensive. I don't care if it's about pasta, beef, veal, lamb, a drink or anything else. You would do better to please the customer because a $45 rack of lamb is not worth losing one. She didn't pay the $45, WE did. Sadly we won't return. read more

We ate here on our first night in Jim Thorpe and really enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable and the place has a nice vibe with cool bright abstract artwork on the walls and nice lighting. The chef is a bit inflexible -- no switching of pastas/gnocchi with the sauces designated for each, but my gnocchi was absolutely delicious with the designated goat cheese sun dried tomato sauce. It was one of the best gnocchi dishes I've ever had, rivaling a gnocchi dish I had in Italy. The corn salad and sangria were good too but not like the gnocchi. My husband had the penne with bolognese and I thought the penne was slightly underdone (less cooked than al dente) and the sauce was just ok. Service was good though they did say the food comes out when it's ready in no particular order which is a bit odd. The benefit of this is that our entrees we piping hot, just the way I like it. Bottom line, very good food and a fair price with nice ambiance. read more

My fiancee and I stayed at the Dolon House this past weekend and Moya was highly recommended as the best restaurant in Jim Thorpe. After checking in, we ran over and made a reservation for the next night. After fighting through some absolutely terrible pub food at another establishment our first night, we were clamoring for some truly good food. Moya's menu is entirely composed of small plates - not what I typically go for, but the place is so highly regarded that I made the exception. Between my fiancee and I, we shared a cheese plate special, the summer corn salad, the special flat-iron steak with gorgonzola-mushroom cream sauce, the branzino with mango salsa, the homemade gnocchi bolognese, and the pork shank with chipotle cream sauce. The first things to hit the table were the cheese plate and salad. The cheese plate came with gorgeously high-quality cheddar, blue cheese, manchego, asiago, some honey, roasted red peppers, and flatbread. It was a really generous portion of each and they were all fantastic. The salad came with plenty of corn, feta, chickpeas, and a delicious vinaigrette. I don't *dislike* salads, but I tend not to order them. This was an exception and one of the best salads I've ever had. Next came the gnocchi, branzino, and flat-iron steak. The gnocchi was absolutely gorgeous. The sauce was thick, creamy, and rich with plenty of meat and savoriness. The gnocchi itself had a beautiful texture and flavor. The flat-iron steak was cooked and seared perfectly, with the gorgonzola-mushroom cream providing a rich, unctuous, mildly funky but not over-the-top flavor that complemented the steak really nicely. The branzino was probably my least favorite of what we ordered, but it was still an exemplary piece of fish, delicate in the middle but with an impeccably crisp grilled exterior. The mango salsa was perfect and not overbearing. As Michael at the Dolon House said, they simply let the fish speak for itself. The last plate to get to us was the pork shank. It was a gigantic piece of meat, cooked to perfection with a dark crust and impossibly tender, fall-apart meat. The chipotle cream sauce was the strongest-flavored sauce in the meal but it was a perfect combination with the pork. Out of all the delicious food we had, the pork shank is the one that melted my mind and elevated this meal from "well above average" to "I'm going to daydream about this forever." Afterwards, we felt the restaurant had definitely earned dessert, but the dessert was far from the highlight of the meal. My fiancee's chocolate cake was good, and my peanut butter ice cream "bomba" was fine, but neither were as good as the dinner that preceded it. I suspect that the desserts are not made on-premises since they were pretty pedestrian. That being said, Moya is well worth going for dinner even if the dessert wasn't anything special. Moya provided a downright excellent meal and we'll be sure to return next time we go to Jim Thorpe. To be quite honest, Jim Thorpe wasn't the most amazing place to take a vacation for several reasons, but it'd be worth going back just to stay at the Dolon House and have a meal at Moya. read more

Rounding up from 4.5 stars. Quite simply you visit Moya for the wonderful food. The menu contains an interesting assortment of salads, pastas, entrees, and sides--all of which very good and some of which, such as the shrimp with honey tomatillo sauce, are both creative and excellent. Moya is a great choice if you have food allergies, especially gluten, as aside from the pasta you will have have many options straight off the menu. Portion sizes and prices are reasonable and the service is fine. Because of its imaginative menu (clearly designed by a foodie) this is not a place that picky eaters and most children would likely enjoy--but for the rest of us Moya is a treat while visiting scenic Jim Thorpe. However, I backed down to 4.5 stars because some of the tables are uncomfortably close together which did, at times, feel a bit awkward as your conversation was clearly not limited to your table. read more

The portions are small tho.what really bothers me is the overcharge on the wine bottle. A 10 $ wine bottle is sold at 32$. stumbled upon Moya at Fall Foliage fest yesterday. what a lovely spot. All of your staff deserves high praise. The food was delicious. My braised short ribs were sublime. However, I needed a magnifying glass to see it. The portions were tiny, at best. To receive just protein on a plate is meh. The sentence on the menu that states"we politely decline substitutions" is off putting. Again, the food was delicious, but the prices were incongruous with what we received. Would I recommend it it? We've been visiting Jim Thorpe ever Fall for 12 years. And every trip included a meal at Moya. This will be our last. The owner Stephanie was beyond rude and her server was worse. Truth be told, the food was excellent; always has been. However, it was clear from the outset that our party was not welcome. Stephanie and her staff did everything in their power to convey that sentiment. Moya is perhaps the most expensive restaurant in Jim Thorpe. We were happy to patronize in years past but no more. Moya came recommended by the employees at Harry Packer Mansion and it did not disappoint! This place really shouldn't be missed if visiting Jim Thorpe. We started off with cocktails which were great. Boyfriend got a rum runner and I got the sangria which was perfect and pretty potent as well. The items in the menu are meant to be shared which is reflected in their size. We started with the prosciutto cold plate which was fabulous. Prosciutto with dates and arugula and goat cheese I believe-very fresh and delicious. For our entrees I got the yellowfin tuna and boyfriend got the rack of lamb. The tuna is absolutely delicious. The sauce it is served in is a tad bit spicy but so flavorful and the fish was cooked perfectly. The lamb was really good as well but could have stood a little flavor. Like some seasoning or a little sauce of some sort would have been nice. It was cooked perfectly but I just wish it was a little more flavorful. We got potatoes on the side as well which were cooked with Parmesan cheese and almonds, which were a perfect accompaniment. For dessert we shared a tres leches which was great. It's one of my favorite desserts and Moya did a great job with it. I think the restaurant could work on its ambiance a bit. It's a little too bright in there, as we were hoping for a more romantic dinner experience. No big deal but perhaps an area for improvement. Everything we ordered was very good and creative. Drinks were also really good. Staff was very friendly. It was a bit overpriced for the size, even if it does state they're small and for sharing. The atmosphere was only okay, with no music all you could hear was other tables. There are a lot of rules as well. They're quite tense about your table time and we even overheard a waitress complaining about a table taking too long... super unprofessional at these prices. We felt tense the entire meal. The rules all over the menu also made us laugh... no splitting checks, no substitutions whatsoever. As someone with food sensitivities I found this to be total b.s. So although the food was far above average, I wouldn't go back because the atmosphere was not what I thought to be welcoming. read more

I can't believe it took us 7 years of coming to Jim Thorpe to eat at Moya. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is fantastic. It is quite impressive when a "from scratch" restaurant, totally packed, can bring all of your dishes out at the perfect times. You would think they were carefully monitoring our bites and moods! Not worth the price in my eyes. My seared scallops were burned on outside and i dont feel they were done on the inside. In fact i didnt finish those expensive buggers. However the crab cakes were delish. We also had a rainbow trout salad and an asparagus salad with goat cheese. I recommend the rainbow trout. Yum. We were hear twice for drinks and i feel they need a better mixologist. Their cocktails were not well made. Our bill was $140 with two salads, crab cakes meal, scallops meal, 1 beer, 2 cocktails. Several years ago I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Moya. Things have changed: instead of full Meals, "tapas" style dishes are served. My salad was avocado/ roquefort( a poor combination);my crab cake was a single measley portion ( and tasteless). The art on the walls was garish abstract! What has happened.? I wish I could give Moya a higher review. We ordered drinks and shared 5 plates. The lamb shank, scallops, homemade gnocchi, and our sides: potatoes and broccoli. The drinks were fun. My favorite: dalgona (sp?) espresso/coffee martini. This martini was dressed up with this delicious coffee foam. That's where the fun ended. The scallops and lamb shank were good. They were missing something. The potato gnocchi was not all the way finished. I bit into pieces that were still white from the flour. The Bolognese was just .. alright. The sides? Oil. There was enough oil in both the broccoli and potato to dip bread in. We shared the tres leches dessert, which did not reflect what I expect sponge cake to feel/taste like. It was tough and almost tasted stale. Which brings me back to my point that something was missing. Moya is ALMOST there when it comes to "elevating" their dishes. Micro greens and just a touch of plating presentation makes a world of difference. As far as service. We were often left alone waiting for help. Our server introduced herself, but we rarely saw her. We left our plates stacked for awhile before someone else cleared our table. For the price and experience; it's just not worth it. read more

This was my 4th time at Moya in the past 15 years as we enjoy staying in downtown Jim Thorpe to ski nearby. This place unfortunately has gone downhill (no pun intended). Given that the Salmon, Shrimp, and Steak dishes are asterik designated spicy, I was told by the server they could not be made mild. So I ordered the Boneless Short Rib dish for $23. What I received (and I regret I didn't take a true photo in contrast) of what was given: a grisly small piece of fatty meat in a soup bowl broth with sides no longer included with meat dishes- instead broccoli or potatoes are $5-6 a la carte as if this were a Capital Grille. When I asked my server if I could please substitute for something else; The server deferred to who I believe is the wife of the owner who said it was their most popular dish and thus I would have to pay for a another entree and too bad. When I mentioned that seemed unreasonable coming from especially a manager, and I could potentially write a negative review as my only recourse, she said "I don't give a s***." When I mentioned I'd been there three times before and had never had a negative experience, she replied "I don't remember ever seeing you." Eventually, so as not to make a scene when I threatened to leave she relented but the tab came out to about $72 for my girlfriends burrata salad, my steak replacement and two drinks. Given this is a relatively upscale place in a touristy (albeit blue-collar) town catering to overnighters, I was pretty shocked at this type of behavior as honestly I've never had a restaurant refuse to accommodate the customer when there was an issue with what they had received. I'm a super non confrontational guy who barely writes reviews. It's possible the restaurant is on tougher times than usual due to the pandemic, but that's no excuse to act belligerently rude to high-paying customers trying to enjoy their weekend in a small town. There are other alternatives in the area for a similar dining experience (Stone Row comes to mind) and I'd recommend you go elsewhere for better prices, portion sizes, and overall decency. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. Went here for a 7:15pm reservation. Ordered a round a drinks. Server said she'd be right back. Checked on every table except ours and came back 25min later completely frazzled to take our order. No apology or explanation just took our order. Another 30 min go by no one comes to check on us or even offers to refill our water. Food is supposed to come out as it's ready. Nothing came out. Finally after an hour of no food and no service we decide to pay for our drinks and leave. No one was apologetic- they were actually annoyed we were leaving. "Our food was next up" well maybe you should have told us that 10 min ago. Annoyed we're leaving because it's one person taking care of the entire dining room. So that's my fault? I'm supposed to still spend my money here? Are you forgetting that people go to restaurants to celebrate special occasions and spend their $$ for quality food and service? We got no service, no food, no apology and for some reason left thinking we were the problem. If you're understaffed maybe take less reservations or at least offer an apology. Or offer water. Don't try and force me to sit down because our food is coming up next after you haven't been over for an hour and then throw a check at us. Glad we left would have been a waste of $250. Usually stop in few times a month, but the last proved that whatever elements of service existed are now gone. The bus boy handled our order and the server greeted the table then after returned with the check. We sat next to what use to be a bar but now serves essentially as an open work area for preparing table linen and other restaurant fabrics while people are dining. The quality of the food is still there however, but whoever is in charge of service, the chiefs wife I presume, is killing the chiefs hard work. I would consider takeout but indoor dining is strongly cautioned against. read more
