My husband and I had been customers for decades with Allstate with one office or another. After living out of state for a few years, we transferred our business from the other state's Allstate office to this one a year ago after returning to NC. After only a year of our business, they raised our rates astronomically for our homeowner's and car insurance. So, we shopped elsewhere and decided to terminate our policy with Allstate. After learning that we were leaving, they attempted to work with us to get us to remain a customer. But, they couldn't offer anywhere near the rates we got elsewhere. Then, they proceeded to send us to their internal collections agency for a charge. When we called and asked them to explain what we still owed, they couldn't do so. Without a clear explanation, we tried working with them for well over a week to understand why we owed over $150 dollars. They finally stated that it was for one day of easy pay. We were shocked and asked them to explain why one day would cost so much money. They were never able to explain why we supposedly owed this money or this amount. We both have excellent credit and have never missed a payment on anything in our entire marriage (over 20 years). So, with them still insisting we owed this money despite the fact that they couldn't articulate the charges, we went ahead and paid the amount so we wouldn't be sent to a collection agency. Bottom line, this office is completely incompetent and they have made me never want to do business with Allstate ever again despite the decades we had with this company.

However, when I broke down and was stranded in chapel hill I was told my coverage would get me out of the parking garage and that was it. I had to borrow 350.00 to get home. Then a week ago I was sent forms for a different policy/ company increasing my rate to 186.00 a month. Supposedly, I have accidents or tickets on my record....I have no accidents, no tickets, not even a parking citation. I am now going to Geico getting the same coverage at 124.00 a month. So, my recommendation is to not use this company that provides poor customer service, expensive policies, and agents who only care about the money bottom line! And yes, I'm now happy to say I have AAA so I know that no matter what I will be able to safely get home if my car breaks down. Shop around folks! There are better companies out there! Just saying.
