During our time together I grew into the strongest and fittest version of myself. By the end, I was able to deadlift 245 lbs and squat 225 lbs. something I never thought I'd be able to do. My legs were toned! I also noticed significant strength increases in my arm and back exercises. All without any injuries. More than that, no matter what day I was having, X was a dependable positive presence. He always found ways to help me push through every session so I came out stronger. Being a smaller studio with no more than 10 reformers, I was worried it would be too slow paced compared to the other places I have been. On the contrary, the instructor was super knowledgeable. I started training with Kristen at the beginning of the year having never lifted weights before,…read moreand somehow she has turned me into a person who gets genuinely excited about hitting new personal bests. She is absolutely incredible. She's extremely knowledgeable and does such a great job explaining the "why" behind what we're doing, which has made me feel so much more confident in the gym. She also has a fantastic eye for form and knows exactly when to critique, when to push, and when to remind me that I am, in fact, capable of doing the thing I'm convinced I cannot do. I'm hitting personal bests in most sessions, which still feels slightly ridiculous considering the fact that at the beginning of the year I had basically no idea what I was doing. I also started working with her postpartum, so rebuilding strength and confidence in my body has felt especially meaningful. She has helped me focus on what my body can do and celebrate that, rather than getting caught up in where I thought I "should" be. If you've ever felt intimidated by weightlifting or thought, "Yeah, that's probably not for me," GO SEE HER. She'll teach you, encourage you, challenge you, and somehow make you stronger before you even realize what's happening. I came in not knowing how to lift weights. I stayed for the PRs and the satisfaction of successfully lifting increasingly heavy things. 10/10 would recommend. Go get strong!

Loud music and motivational trainers is right up my alley. This was the escape and boost I needed. I have always wanted to try pilates. When I moved to San Diego, I used to work out in a gym with…read morethe traditional weights and machines. I hated it though. Then a friend of mine, told me, oh, my uncle teaches pilates and has a studio in Hillcrest, you should call him. I made the call to "Uncle Bruno" and from then on was hooked. Bruno has a way of understanding me like no one. He is the uncle I always wanted. He knows what I need to work on and will tell me whether I want to or not. And that is just my mental state. With my body, he works me out, stretches me, gets me to try new things and calms the noise in my head. Since doing pilates, not only did I lose weight, tone up, and get better posture, but I also grew taller at the ripe age of 22. (I'm now 30.) When I started at the Body Alchemist, I was 5 feet and 1/2 an inch. I am now proud to say that I stand at 5 and 3/4 an inch. Yes I know that part of the pilates experience is the fact that it lengthens you out by making your posture and spine stand stronger, which in fact makes you stand at your full potential but in layman's terms and to everyone else I just plain grew taller!!! Now if I could only hit 5"1".............................. Seriously though, everyone that works at the studio, whether it's Bruno, Paula, Portia or Gayner is incredible. They all not only work out your mind, but provide a sort of mini-condensed therapy session. I can honestly say that if I didn't have the constant reinforcement and support of Bruno and the gang (and Elaine when she worked there) I may not have survived my first few years in San Diego. They always made my body feel better with the workout and my mind feel more calm and at peace. Oh, and on a technical side, they are cheaper than any studio I have ever called in San Diego. And a semi private is 2 people!! When I was going it was $30 a semi private lesson...............A semi private anywhere else starts at $50 at LEAST!!!

I did some research about pricing and session duration before signing up with Irving. My first session consisted of a physical assessment and discussing my fitness goals. It has been just over a year and a half at 1-on-1 Trainer & I am very pleased. I have learned an incredible amount about physical capacity. I am an active person who comes from a Dance & Theatre background, however I have not ever weight-trained. One of the biggest things I have impressed upon my work with Irving is that I want to learn the proper form as well as cultivate better overall habits in physical wellness. Irving and I recently discussed taking my training to the next level and starting to focus on building a bit more muscle mass. My initial goals were to tone up, strengthen my glutes and back--all of which has been achieved. I am grateful to 1-on-1 Trainer for the time, patience & support. Here's to continuing the journey!
