They've recently expanded to have an icecream stand as well. The prices are very reasonable and the coffee is all Oso Negro, the high quality brand from Nelson, the nearby town. This is a cozy and cute cafe, with a very earthy atmosphere fitting perfectly to the Kootenay vibe.

Americans Beware!…read more This is actually about the Ladybug Coffee and Ice Cream stand attached to Mojo's. We were there this week and waiting for the ferry. This was our first stop since crossing the border, and so we didn't yet have any Canadian currency. We asked the lady there if it was ok to pay in American dollars, and she said sure. She said she was a new owner and wasn't set up to take cards yet, so everything had to be cash. Our bill came to $16 Canadian. We paid with a $20 USD bill. She gave us $4 Canadian back. I asked about the exchange rate and she repeated that she was a new owner and the bank charged her more to deposit American dollars. With that she disappeared to the back of the building never to be seen again. At the current exchange rate, our bill worked out to $12.32 USD. The ice cream was tasty, but buyer beware.

This is a small family-owned bakery, located on Hwy 6, just off of the Slocan River and the Slocan Valley Rail Trail. Our niece tells us that there is a path so that you can walk up from the trail for a snack. We stopped in after visiting a bakery in nearby Slocan and walking away without finding what we were craving. Wow! Sweet rolls, fresh breads, doughnuts, decadent dark chocolate desserts and even pizza! We each had a sweet roll, I purchased a package for breakfast the following day and I purchased a chocolate raspberry roulade for that evening's dessert. Oh, there goes the diet! I even called and ordered packages of the blueberry sweet rolls to take home to the office staff and our pet sitter. A new MUST stop when we visit Winlaw. Oh - and it wasn't just the baked goods that blew us away - the service was fantastic. The morning that we stopped in found one young woman behind the counter who was seriously hustling to help all of the customers and was still cheerful and even apologized for our wait for beverages (which was not that much of a wait at all).
