We had a long wait to grab a table but it was worth it. Lots of parking though! First things first, the beers are alright. The amber was the best in my opinion. Conveniently, you can order flights in varying sizes to get as little or as much of your beer as you want. They also had two guest taps running for further variety. Mountain State offers a whole lot of flatbread pizzas on its menu. We split the kickin chicken which was great. It had a pineapple and spicy sauce that really completed the dish. Another great find in Deep Creek. Service and food are very good --- but the atmosphere and actual building is what makes this place special. If the weather is warm, i highly recommend drinking on the back patio. The view is amazing! First off, Mountain State is off the beaten path -- in fact it was by accident that we even found this place. i think they converted an old barn. They serve lots of items --- but it is their 'flatbread pizzas' that are outstanding. We sampled several --- but I would say that the Buffalo Chicken is the best (with the cheeseburger coming in second). Im not a huge beer drinker --- so I can't really comment on their brews but the blonde was good. Give it a try. read more

We had a poor experience with the hostess during our visit to mountain state brewing company. We walked in and asked for outdoor seating, and were told that outdoor seating was closed due to the winter climate - which was completely fine with us, and we asked for indoor seating instead. What was NOT ok was the hostess making condescending comments to the other hostess and other customers about our request for outdoor seating - especially given we were still right in front of the hostess station. We walked out after that - not a good experience and a really poor response to a fairly simple request. read more

Visited this place on our family's lake vacation and will come back every year. Beer is great and food was phenomenal. Waitress Mickey (who was great) told me to get Fire on the Mountain pie and it was fantastic. Got three pies to share and All the pizza was great. Mushroom Pizza here was delicious! It had a thin flatbread crust. There were so many other choices, we were completely amazed! The craft brew sampler included 5 different and interesting selections. The kids menu had mac&cheese, chicken nuggets, and hotdogs in fairly large portions. The homemade humus and artichoke dip were also delicious! We were here on a Sunday afternoon, and along with music, most of the patrons were enjoying free bingo from 1:00-3:00 ,evidently a weekly event. Prizes were gift cards to the restaurant. My friend ordered a buffalo chicken salad from there, she ended up in the ER that day from food poisoning. Took her days to recover and it messed up our trip. I really wish I lived nearer to this place. The pizza was fantastic, the drinks were great, and the views from the outdoor seating were beautiful. We had the Pesto & Proschuitto flatbread and Fire on the Mountain flatbread, both of which were delicious. The pizzas have a tasty crispy crust that does not disappoint. My family had an awesome lunch here this week. Like everywhere, I know they're short staffed and it's the busy holiday season, but Cory was amazing and got us a table in one of the igloos they have on the back patio with heat and a private dining space. The service, beer and food were all excellent. In fact, family we were staying with made other lunch plans and ended up being very jealous of the meal we enjoyed. Kids menu was very reasonably priced and tasty according to our kids. Their lighter ale (forget the name of it) was delicious, and the bruschetta and flatbread pizza were excellent. If you are a beer lover and in the deep creek area, you must stop by Mountainside Brewery for some local town fun. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The background music is modern and upbeat. We went here as a plan C since the Wisp Resort was closing, and ended up having a great time. The Bartender Van was friendly and made us feel welcomed as first timers to the area. The drinks go down smooth and prices are the best compared to the high city prices we are used to paying. Where else could you buy a round of 8 shots for only 50 dollars. Don't drink and hesitate to eat because the food is delicious. Even a non pizza lover will love the flat bread wood fire grill pizza along with the house made spinach dip. This was my favorite go to place when we go to the lake. We come up often. The last 2 times we have been super disappointed. I have, for 10+ years, ordered the same pizza. We always replace 1 topping with another and never billed extra (as we are giving up one for another). The last 2 time we have ordered as usual and got billed an extra 2.75 per replacement (first time I thought maybe it was a mistake). The service was SLOWWWW and to call their food edible is laughable. It's really bad. Do not eat here. Don't be fooled by the name or the beer menu. Eat literally anywhere else. We had a flatbread (cold, gross), chicken salad sandwich (flavorless with a soggy pickle), blue ridge salad (served on a coaster practically with no fixins on it) and a Reuben that looked like it had been run over by a big rig. The food is great but we had to wait about 30 min for pizza! I don't recall waiting more than 15! min for pizza anywhere else in the world. The view is absolutely breathtaking! The staff members are friendly and they will try their best to help you out with everything that you need. However, the floor was super sticky and one of my friend lost a flip flop while trying to walk. Under table, there was a pond of water, I'm assuming somebody spilled a drink and they didn't really bother to clean it up. We also had to clean our chairs before sitting because they were covered with crumbs. It was a cold evening and they had their fans on; all of us were shaking and we ended up asking for our pizzas to go. I think they should try to improve the cleanliness of the place, speed up the food (everyone is hungry) and make it a cozy environment for the cold mountains. read more

This was our second visit and I was thinking 4 stars was perfect until our dinner Sunday night. Don't go on a Sunday. Why? They are apparently out of everything after a busy weekend. None of their own brews were available (really? none?!) and they were out of peanut butter pie. Sigh. Sadly none of his and hers favorites were to be found. That said, the food here is pretty good. We like to split the Blue Ridge Salad (greens, blue cheese, walnuts, cranberries - $8.95 for a large) and then a pizza. The Sweet Kickin' Chicken is good (chicken, bacon, pineapple, spinach, onion with sweet chili sauce), but leftovers didn't heat well thanks to the spinach. Like spicy? Try the Fire on the Mountain (pepperoni, sausage, banana peppers, onions and a biting chipotle sauce). Pizzas are $10-$25, depending on size and toppings. Kid's options are traditional - chicken nuggets, cheese pizzas, etc. Kid's drink not included. Smaller groups (four or less) seem to be seated in the bar area, and the other two rooms looked like all big groups at long tables or wide booths. The chairs in the bar area aren't very comfy. Two bathroom oddities -- the door to the ladies room is directly next to the pizza oven and prep station, and the container of pizza servers is on the ledge between the prep area and the door. And - this is weird - the toilet paper rolls are on the wall behind the toilets, so you have to either get some in advance or do some fancy twisting to reach it. read more

The beer is nothing special here, but the food makes it all worth coming here. The kicking chicken pizza was amazing. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the pineapple on top gave the spicy sauce that the chicken was in a great balance of sweet and spicy. I also had the bison burger which was jammed packed with awesome flavors, I also like the fact that it was shredded beef rather than a patty. I had the sampler of their beer, the IPA was boring, my favorite was the stout. Nice atmosphere, they had a live band that played all sorts of muisc from country to sublime. read more

Review based on take out only. We ordered take out, 3 salads and 2 pulled pork sandwiches. The wait was 40 minutes, so you would think the food would be good. We ordered two of the spicy pulled pork sandwiches (one was normal and one had no cheese). Both came bone dry without sauce or coleslaw or cheese. One came with cole slaw on the side and the coleslaw was room temperature. We ordered chips with both sandwiches and only received one order. Two of the salads had fresh lettuce, but one had an inordinate amount of rotten lettuce. The chicken in all 3 was pretty disgustingly dry and chewy. They also screwed up the dressing choices. Would not recommend take out from the place, especially for the price. read more

We end up at Mountain State Brewing Co. every Fall during our yearly Deep Creek golf trip. The primary reason for our return each time is the restaurant is one of the few places that's still open by the time our group arrives in town. It's also a good space for large groups, and the service is usually really good, considering the nonsense that servers put up with from a large group of hungry guys. That's mainly where the praise ends, though. The beer is solid, but the food leaves a lot to be desired, and the bathrooms are pretty disgusting. I've tried the pulled pork a few times and it's always way too dry, and their pizza is the definition average. We try 4-5 different pizza types each year, and it's fine for our situation: hungry, tired, and short on options, but nothing to write home about. Overall, Mountain State Brewing isn't the type of place that you'll be itching to return to for food, but if you're looking for decent beer, a space that can accommodate larger parties, and you're in need of sustenance when the options in town are shutting down, it's worth trying. The food gets 2 stars, but because of the excellent staff, the beer, and "later" hours, it's closer to a 3-star rating. read more

Looking for good food and beers in Garrett County can be a little harder than most places but Mountain State Brewing Co. is it! I believe it is sort of a regional-ish chain as there are a few of them around the area. Quality selection of beers abound. They have their own brews along with a small but very tight menu which is preferred over the places that pages just seem to just keep going. The atmosphere is solid and very expansive at this location. Could hold a lot of people if you are looking to bring a large group somewhere out. Great service at the bar. Quick and diligent. We left at 7pm and it was really crowded. All ages, easy going and fun. We got the Sweet Kickin' Chicken flatbread (pizza) and it was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. BLT was awesome. Currently waiting past hour 2 for my meal. Air conditioning is non existent while I try to comfort my 10 month old daughter who has obviously lost her patience. Waiter apparently quit mid shift, so who knows when our food is going to arrive. THANK GOD we were offered free chips and salsa. They have also ran out of cups as well (started with glass now on plastic). I've also noticed numerous tables take their meal to go because of the wait as well. How a restaurant of this size can be unprepared for the large influx of service that would happen for 4th of July week is BEYOND ME. I NEVER EVER leave negative reviews on Yelp but this is completely unacceptable. I would caution anyone to come here. Edit: Food arrived, house made chips came in a bag, BLT came without tomatoes. We came to Deep Creek for weekend trip. We got there around 7PM and parking was full! We were a big party, 7 adults 2 kids, so we were told that waiting was 30-45min. I think we were waited more than 1 hour to get seated. Once we got inside, the place was much bigger than it looked from the entrance. Thier original beers were all great, and foods were great, but service was way too slow. Maybe because they were baking pizzas in brick stove in the back and cannot put not many large pizza at the same time, maybe because we were a big party. But waiting for pizza for over 1hr was little too long, especially for kids. Beers and foods were great and price was great too so only wish service was little better. Maybe next time I am here, I should pick the right time to go. If you go there with big party, I highly recommend to make a reservation in advance. read more

We were up here on mini vacation, thanks to groupon I got a two night stay in a log cabin for way cheaper than there face value price. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and were deciding on dinner. After checking out what this town had to offer we choose the pizza at MSB. This place was cozy with a log cabin style design as most of the restaurant there. It wasn't busy so we were seated right away. Something interesting i found out. Garrett County is a Dry county. Meaning that on Sunday they don't sell Beer or Wine at all although you can order it in a restaurant as long as you place a food order first. I was surprised. At first I thought it was something specific to that restaurant but then i learned more from some of the locals. We ended up ordering the Kickin Chickin and the Big Fat greek pizza. Both had plenty of toppings to make them a great pizza but nothings better than the crust and sauce. These pizzas unfortunately did not have such a tasty crust. I was a little disappointed. It was rather tasteless like wheat bread but the toppings were still good. They make an awesome Rum Beer Float and i had one with ice cream. My hubby tried the 3oz 4 flights beer which was an ipa, an amber ale, a regular ale and a stout. My favorite was the amber ale it was the only beer that didn't taste bitter. We enjoyed watching them toss the dough in the kitchen and the service was good but i think if i ever returned i'd go with a sandwich instead of a pizza. read more
