This location does not have the old-world charm, but then again it is there for the families of the deceased which had a line of probably 50 people all wanting to pay their respects to the family, as did my wife and I. I've worked in Emergency Veterinary medicine for the past 11 years, so this process is very familiar to me. I'm pretty numb to it, so I carried my mom's dog into the building myself. Without giving too many details, one of the employees tripped and had an accident while walking up the stairs behind me. I was VERY thankful that I was there at the right time, and so were they! After the adrenaline wore off, and I transported her to the hospital, I reflected about what had just happened. The fact is, "Jane Doe", and her co-worker, were more concerned about my mother's dog, and the care that was taken with HIM, than they were about her pain/situation. Of course, I didn't let this stop me, and kept assuring them that I KNOW he's no longer suffering, and that I am going to help HER at this moment. They have many of the same type of monuments and gravestones as the Magnolia has. You can also drive into the cemetery, park on the side of the small roads and don't expect any well paved roads, so stopping by after a rainstorm is not recommended. All of these cemeteries are located in an industrial area of town, which is very strange to me. There are the two big cemeteries and then there are several smaller, obsure cemeteries in and around the big ones. I am from San Diego and we have many, HUGE, well maintained cemeteries in SoCal, (you should see where Michael Jackson is interred) but none are as charming, historical, old or haunting as the cemeteries in the South. I could've stayed all day in this area if the weather had been better.

He was admonishing me for parking on the grass, saying I was parked on top of others burial sites. I did not mean to do that if he was correct but the manner and hostile way he approached my sister and I was disturbing. He should have waited until we finished our prayer before butting in.

Just before A few months before Covid got started, my Mom passed after losing a battle with cancer. She happened to be in a rehab facility following surgery when it happened so they were the ones to call and let us know one evening. My brother and I were both obviously distraught, but things got worse when I called the next day to see what they next steps were. I won't go through the whole thing, but the short story is that before we had a chance to tell the facility where we wanted the body transferred to, they had a funeral home pick her up on their own. Their services were very expensive and way more than we were looking for. When I let them know what had happened that funeral home was very accomodating and apologetic when they learned those were not my wishes. They offered to deliver the body to any local funeral home or crematorium at no cost due to the mishap from the rehab facility. We weren't looking for a service because most of our family is in the Northeast. We wanted to do a simple cremation, and then transport the remains back to Boston for a service etc... After making some calls, I knew that Charleston Cremation Center was exactly what I needed. My brother and I came in to sit down and discuss the details. They were very professional and answered all my questions. They didn't try to play on emotions for any upsells and knew that we were looking to keep it simple. They even made the correct accomodations for flying with the remains and making sure we had all our necessary paperwork. All of our expectations were exceeded and the communication was stellar. All we needed was the basic cremation services and it saved us literally thousands of dollars from quotes I received elsewhere. They do offer funerals and more if you're looking for that too. Hopefully whatever situation you're going through that brought you to reading this review will give you piece of mind to assist in making the right decision for you and your loved ones.

Holy Cross is a small cemetery on James Island at the end of Harborview Rd. It's very peaceful and…read morepretty. They have the part of the cemetery that allows monuments on the perimeter, and, in the interior, you're allowed to have only the flat gravestones (so they can be mowed over). The monument area is more expensive and you have to buy a certain number of them (2-4, I think). The cemetery is open all the time, but if you want to speak to one of the office people, the office closes at 3. Also, if you want to have a funeral, it will cost you more after 3 and on weekends (because the workers are working outside their normal hours). People really take ownership of their graves here. There are flags with pictures of the deceased, solar lights, small statues, etc. The flat markers have vases that can be attached and practically everybody uses them. There are flowers all over the place. The cemetery is quite beautiful in the Spring. Azaleas are blooming and there are other flowering plants, which I've forgotten. The office lady, Pam, is very sweet and helpful. She seems to know where everybody in the cemetery is and refers to them by name. It's kind of a comfort to know you can go in there and she'll know right where your loved one is buried.
