I came here because of the hype and also because it was 104 degrees outside. As I entered the store there was already a long line. I asked the cashier what's the top drinks and she recommended the mango matcha and the milk matcha. I ordered both and got the green tea blanket pastry as well.I also discovered they are known for their fluff pancakes but those take a while to make so I will need to come back again :) The one thing I don't like about the place is that it is super small, so you most likely will have to find a table outside; don't get the seat next to the restroom. I took that seat, it smells so bad and also people will keep hitting your chair when they open the door. Had the creame brûlée pancake and while it's delicious to look at, the taste was okay. Very fluffy yes but I thought the flavor was lacking. Also we would like to prefer to eat at the restaurant but all of the tables and chairs inside and outside were all taken. There wasn't much room to eat, so we took it to go. I don't mind the long drive on my own, but someone saw a pic & wanted to get dibs on the action... so my 8 YO boba lover joined me on my hour-long journey. It was a wet weekend, from downpour to mild sprinkles, not too bad considering the distance & the rain. When I parked, the LO was bouncing with energy & ready for the hunt. I ordered the taro storm boba with milk tea and the bestie got the nutellamisu mousse motto no.5 with milk tea and brown sugar boba. We shared the creme brulee and nutella mousse pancakes. 10/10 best pancakes I have ever had in my life. Light, fluffy, full of flavor and so complimentary to the mousse and sauce that takes it to another level. The nutella mousse was delightful with a light mocha note or as my bestie said, tiramisu flavor. smooth and creamy mousse that didn't fall flat. The creme brulee pancake sauce had a slight lemon flavor that is perfectly balanced and so wonderful in mouth feel that I rolled my eyes so far into my skull I thought I might have heard myself make unspeakable noises. I had stomach discomfort and had to take medicine to feel better, while my husband started experiencing hiccups, which only happens to him when he eats something bad. The selling point of this cafe is that it stays away from artificial ingredients or powders (**lollicup/quickly**) and they offer a variety of fresh, healthy milk options. I love a good boba place that offers almond milk free of charge. Matcha drinks can be made unsweetened as they do not use a presweetened powder. Same with taro.. it's the real deal as well. That being said I play it safe and get the matcha taro drink with almond milk and agar jelly. The taro is naturally sweet on its own so no sugar needed on this drink and you can taste both the taro and matcha super distinctly. Loveee the agar jelly they offer. There was a hint of sweetness, thanks to the honey and brown sugar soaked boba, but it didn't overpower the earthy flavor of the matcha. I would go back just for the matcha, to be honest. The pancakes were fluffy as ever and delicious! They give you 3 pancakes and the creme brûlée topping is added in. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce, but I thought it was still pretty good. The granola was really good though and I thought it added more texture to the super soft pancakes. I think a simple maple syrup and butter would have done it for me (+ the granola). My online order was supposed to be ready at 2pm on Sunday 1/30. That's a good 30 mins after ordering. The estimated time kept getting pushed out. It finally said ready for pick up at 2:25pm. I've seen their Souffle pancakes from many social media platforms and have always been wanting to try them with my friends. I ordered online and was able to pick it up after 15-20 minutes. We got the Mango Souffle Pancake, Boba crepe cake, and Strawberry crepe cake. The food itself looks better than it tastes. All I can taste was mango and the souffle itself doesn't stand out a bit. I tried the souffle by itself, and to be honest, it was flavorless, dry, flat, and overcooked. Boba Crepe Cake 1/5: This one was the most disappointing of all. I chose this one because I'm a big boba lover myself, however, when I took my first bite into this I'm very confused. It barely tasted anything close to boba. The creme on top tasted like coffee, and if you ate them together, it's like eating a "coffee crepe cake." Without the cream tasted even worse. I cannot describe the flavor of it, it is just very bad. Also, if it's called boba crepe cake, I'm not sure why I didn't get a side of boba with it as the pictures advertised? Strawberry Crepe Cake 2/5: This one is ok. It's not good but it's not bad. To me, it just tasted like strawberry jam, especially the jelly thing in the middle. Nothing special about it. I had wanted to try a tea place closeby to Boiling Point and I saw that I had bookmarked Motto Tea Cafe. I walked over and found the place on a street corner. Pretty easy to find. The cafe is kinda small and has a few tables that you could sit at and I guess study, but it was packed. It also doesn't have much width in here so it's somewhat packed in that way as well, trying to get through, wait for a drink, etc. Just a tad hard. They do have some decorations in here that I found kinda cute haha. After perusing the menu, I settled on the following: Uji Kintoki Matcha (Layered Uji Matcha Latte with Red Beans & White Boba) $5.75 (You can substitute almond milk) The red beans were decent and abundant. For me personally, I don't think it really works with this drink though, more of a dessert, because it kinda takes away from the drink. The star is gonna be the uji matcha (which was good quality in my opinion), but drinking all that and trying to work the red beans and the white boba, bye bye to the drink LOL. That's personal to me though, so next time I do know haha. Their menu actually expands more than I would have expected, so if matcha ain't your thang, there are definitely other options. Can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet, it's one of my faves! My work bestie and I walk over here at least once a week for afternoon snacks for over a year now. My fave drink is the Cheesy Strawberry. This may sound weird, but there is a big trend for the "cheesy" drinks. This drink actually tastes like Strawberry Cheesecake in drink form! They use a cream cheese base and whip it light until it's like whipped cream. It has a bit of a savory aspect so it tastes very balanced, similar to the sea salt drinks which are cream based. Fresh strawberry & green tea based gives it a refreshing & caffeinated kick. It's also one of the prettiest! I love the pink and white ombre! Make sure to mix well or drink this without the straw to get the best taste (and keep the ombre). They have many different toppings available including red beans & toasted pine nuts. My favorite is the lychee jelly. It gives a bit of texture and sweetness. They have a free topping with Yelp check in. I still need to try out the other sweets they are known for, especially the souffle pancakes! They are sooo fluffy! You get to watch them make it through the glass. The store itself is super cute! They have great decor and cute indoor seating. Customer service is great, however, there may be a wait for drinks. Parking is either street parking or the Schoolhouse Parking structure. I'm coming back for the decadent matcha drinks. My go-to is the "Mango in Kyoto" where there's mango on the bottom, tea and topped off with a foamy fluffy matcha latte on top. Mix the drink and it's SO DELICIOUS! Also go to try the original boba milk tea. Super solid tea and boba. I'm not a huge fan of the Tiramisu foam because I find it way too sweet. It's located near Old Town Pasadena, so parking is always sparse. If you're lucky you can find street parking nearby, or park a little bit further away in the residential area and walk. The great thing about this place is that it is catered both to the kind of person who craves a sweet drink, and the kind of person who's here to enjoy the deep tea flavors. OMG this place blew my freaking mind. These are some tasty beverages and I am going to come back here every time I'm in the area. The store itself is very cute and a great place to hang out. We got the uji matcha latte and the Mango in Kyoto (with lychee jelly free with yelp check-in). I am usually not someone who enjoys drinking my calories, but the matcha, mango and lychee flavor all blended so well together. I had a big lunch and still was able to drink 3/4 of it in 10 minutes. I highly highly recommend their drinks here. I would 5/5 come back again and try their other drinks. Very clean space. Smells amazing. Cute toys and pillows on their seating area. Huge fan of Motto Tea Cafe~ On our search for Socal eats and sweets, my sister and I happened upon this place as we were heading back to our hotel. This respectable little tea house was tucked into the fringe of Pasadena's residential-downtown border, a brightly-lit beacon in a sea of sleeping townhouses. I'm surprised that they're located in Pasadena; I'd have expected something of their caliber to be closer to the heart of LA. Nonetheless, a wonderful find during our trip. We were drawn in by the whimsical yet modern decor. The furniture is definitely geared towards style over comfort-- trendy couches and oblong tables aren't as cozy, but eye-catching for sure. UJI KINTOKI MATCHA LATTE: Red bean & mochi: two paragons of the east Asian dessert palate, blended neatly into a sweetened gradient of white & jade. I loved this! Now that boba has had a popularity explosion across California, it's difficult to find adequate matcha in the sea of overprocessed, additive-laden powders. I respect that Motto prides itself on sourcing ingredients from Japan. The toppings were also delicious & super QQ! CHEESE MOUSSE MATCHA: The infamous "salted cheese" topping! The savory-sweet "cheese" was a lovely companion to the bittersweet (mostly sweet :P) matcha. I'd prefer this over coffee & creamer any day. MACARONS: Simple but tasty! Can't go wrong with macarons ^_^ The quality is reminiscent of Japanese perfectionism-- much of the presentation and service received were beyond American standards.
