We moved quite a distance away, but we'll travel for a day at Get Away Bay, aka Heath Beach!! Always a great time!

Not so hidden GEM just south of Milan. Right off 23. You can see it from freeway! Slice of heaven…read more What was previously known as heath beach/ milan beach is the same natural spring fed lake with a new owner who is breathing a fresh life into the place. You can tell by the new chairs and picnic tables! Natural spring fed lake with just about everything you can think of for a fun day in the sun (summer... fall... and winter...) Let's start with summer... pontoon sun deck with diving board, dock with diving board, water slide... Plenty of room to lay out. Just about anything under the sun can be rented for maximum enjoyment.. paddle boards, boats, paddle boats, floats, rafts etc etc. all reasonable prices. Here with family? A roped off sandy beach area with a couple floats for the kids to enjoy. Also- ADA water toys to help those that need help getting into the water. A nice touch! Did I mention an ice cream cart that drives around?! Or if you don't want to wait... a snack bar with all the options... water/pop/gaterade and snacks... including ice-cream. Want to host a party? There is a barn. Or a pavilion and plenty of upgrades to make the day fun including grills to rent or comfortable lounge chairs. Rentals are endless.... Anything and everything to make the day great. Wouldn't be surprised if you could purchase a bathing suit at this place. Not into water? Plenty of fun activities on land. Volleyball nets, orbeez gun obstacle to go all tactical with your buddies, horse shoe, disc golf. Sounds like camping is now included. And plenty of fire pits to rent for a fall gathering. More to come with the follow up fall and winter reviews... hay rides. Bon fires... possible haunted hay ride? Ice rink in the winter? Really a year round haven of activity. Fishing is just on the weekdays. Plenty to get after!

We brought our boat to Sandy's Marina on opening day, a Sunday. Just four days later, our boat sank…read morewhile docked there. Sandy has refused to refund our $1200 even though we can't replace the boat and won't be using the marina this season. It's incredibly frustrating to pay for a full season of dockage when our boat didn't even last a week in the water. No accountability, no understanding no simpathy-- just a flat-out refusal to work with us.. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!!! I would recommend this marina!

This is to warn everyone about doing business with Sandy's Marina…read more For the last couple years, we have had our pontoon winterized, wrapped and stored at Sandy's. The last 2 times, when we got the boat back it appeared it had been left uncovered for some time due to the leaves on the boat. This year as we were boating, I was unable to put the boat in neutral. The boat is 3 years old. We had Wilson Marine come pick it up to have it checked out. They found that during the winterization process, the lower end plug was not put back in, causing water to fill it. The end result, 2500 dollars in repairs. When I contacted Kevin at Sandy's, he stated that they would not take any responsibility, and further stated, maybe someone vandalized your boat and took the plug out. Give me a break! I asked Kevin if they would at least cover my 250 dollar deductible for my insurance claim, and once again he smugly and rudely said no. After talking to people on the lake about this, I found that numerous people have had complaints about Sandy's and don't use them. Needless to say I will no longer do business with Sandy's.

Everything about the Grosse Pointe Park parks is first rate with one exception. The tennis courts…read moreat Windmill Pointe Park are just pitiful. They were resurfaced about 3 years ago and still look brand new. But, that is because they are completely unplayable. Whoever resurfaced those courts left air pockets that substantially effect play on all four courts. If you are a 3.0 player or above I would recommend finding another place to play. The problem for us GP Park residents is that they converted the Patterson Park courts to Pickleball courts leaving us without a playable tennis court in all of GPP. It is crying shame that those managing a park system like ours cannot find a solution to this problem.

Of all of the parks in the 5 pointes, this is by far my favorite. They have the best and biggest…read morepool. They have the best park for the much loved summer picnics with friends and family. I still remember as a kid swimming around the adult pool when it wasn't adult time and watching this bigger guy we all lovingly called Boblo boat swim around the perimeter of the pool by using his hands as wheel to pedal around the pool and do his laps. It was also the first time I saw the fool horror of the red Speedo from the slicked backer tall guy that would walk around proudly by the pool, only taking a dip to cool off some. This is where I took my tennis lessons as a kid. This is where I learned to fish over by the harbor piers. They have improved the community center and it's now a nice Tompkin's center and a great communal spot to watch movies. It's great for renting for parties and gatherings. I don't live in GPP any more but I have many friends that still do and thus I still am able to visit this wonderful park that holds so many fond childhood memories for me.
