Mo's is a cool little neighborhood bar/lounge in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn located not too far from Atlantic Terminal/Barclay's Arena. Been here a few times. Best night to go is Saturday where it gets turnt up. Up-to-date variety of music, nice full bar selection and cool urban decor. One of my favorite bars in Brooklyn is located across the street from Mo's so I usually go there to meet up with friends. However, I have been to Mo's a handful of times but my most recent visit the experience was simply phenomenal. Now when I say phenomenal I mean this place has the most laid back vibe during happy hour. It's a great place to meet up with a friend for some drinks and listen to some good tunes. I was very impressed with the variety of hip hop and r&b that was played while we were here. The bartender was friendly and attentive. There was only 1 television in the front bar area which can be problematic if there are multiple games of interest on at one time. Nonetheless we had a great time hanging at the bar, listening to music, and of course people watching. I have also been to Mo's a handful of times on weekend nights. This place gets incredibly crowded. Like literal sardines in a can but it's a fun place and lots of dancing goes on here on weekend nights if that's your thing. I wound definitely recommend this place for drinks after work. I know I will definitely be back very soon! read more

I have previously written about the ownership changes between the old "Moe's", and the newest incarnation, "Mo's" and the changes in the vibe between the two bars. The new Mo's was okay to go for a drink, but I was not too thrilled as the atmosphere seemed to change. I recently went back a few times recently, most recently with some co-workers and have to say that the place is showing signs of improvement. There is now a better flow with the staff as opposed to when they first opened - I was surprised that Stephanie the bartender still remembered me even though I have not been around in some time! The ladies I were with enjoyed the sight of the male bartender working that night as well. The crowd is now a bit more upscale, urban, lounge-type, but I have to admit that people there were cool for an early evening Friday and was represented by all shapes, colors, ages, genders, and orientations emitting a cool vibe. I was also surprised that Mo's now serves small plates, some of which are quite tasty. I do not know where they manage to squeeze a kitchen and chef in the basement, but the food is not bad! The only drawback is that the plates tend to be a bit pricey, the beers not quite as cold as I like, and some of the drinks can get up in price as well, but for an adult scene with nice decor where you can definitely meet someone it is an nice spot to come through and it is improving. read more

How packed can a place get on a Saturday night? This is not for the claustrophobic. They really do pack as many people as they can into this small space. Don't be surprised if you get a drink spilled on you, or get yelled at for standing in front of the waitress station (even when there's nowhere else to stand) The plusses are that the bouncer was nice and colloquial. From our brief interaction I feel he really wanted me to have a good time. And the beer was a typical 6 dollars, which isn't bad by NYC standards. I was happy to not be paying $9 for a Corona. "I want to go back!!!" I came here with a couple of people after having margaritas at another place. I will say that I had a blast. Although this bar seems to be frequented by Blacks and Latinos, there was a nice variety of folks and the place is pretty laid back and chill. One has to admit with the changing racial make up in Brooklyn, I have noticed that many bars pretty much segregated - not like Jim Crow segregation. I did not really experience that here. Plus, the people, no matter the background, seem cool and easy to talk to. The bartender, whose name that I forget, working on sunday (Nov 8th) was really sweet and cool. I would order drinks from her any day. I cannot say too much about the place because I had only 2-3 drinks, which is about 45-60 minutes when I am already drunk. After seeing food reviews on all these posts, I met a friend for happy hour and went hungry. The waitress said no food is served, just drinks. So not sure if reviews are out dated or if food is only served on certain nights. However, if you like to drink this spot is for you. A steady crowd came in and out and they have an elevated dance/lounge area towards the back. Good place for convo after work. Recently went to Moe's. Me and my friends sat on one of the benches in the back with a small table and apparently there is a "two drink minimum" to sit in these seats. This is what our sever told us. Though I planned to order a drink when I was READY, the server came to us twice asking us for our order BEFORE she told us about this "policy". It made me not feel thrilled to order anything at all. I don't completely blame her because it seems like this was instilled by management. Absolutely a thumbs down in service. We did order drinks but even after this, the check was brought to us immediately. We didn't even have time to think of a second round (not that we really wanted one regardless). I came to Mo's with a friend for a Karaoke night. It wasn't until I got there, around 7pm, that I found out that the Karaoke doesn't start until 10 pm. The happy hour like most bars was short lived and pricey. It was a bit overpriced for some of the juice mixes that they offered. The DJ was good, lively, and had some good mixes. However, the place sells no food or snacks, drinks are a bit overpriced, and happy hour ends way earlier than the events they have there. They do allow you to eat outside food there but then you have to hunt for a garbage can which is scarce since they don't sell food. read more

I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Walked in this evening to grab a beer and accidentally left my headphones on the bar. Not more than 5 minutes later, someone stole the headphones and left. Wow great bartender there! Great pour and friendly quick service. This is a neighborhood watering hole with lots of locals in it. The drinks are pretty cheap at happy hour as well. Okay, now for my rating. This place is the ultimate in dive bars. The bar stools have no padding. They are ripped and repaired with duct tape. They are sticky. You get squirted with beer when they pour a cold one. The bathroom smells and has a two inch crack in the door so people can view whether the bathroom is "occupied" or not. Every night I've been here it's consistent - good music, cool bartenders and a well priced happy hour. Did I mention it's black owned. For those use who are conscious of keeping their money in the black community, buy drinks here. I've never had the food. The crowd is mostly black but there is a decent mix. After work the vibe is chill. You can definitely grab a seat at the bar or in the back. On weekends, it gets pretty crowded. read more

Very unprofessional staff!!! Avoid this place at all costs! Unfortunately, this might be the worst bar in New York. I had family and friends from out of town that I wanted to show a good time in Brooklyn. We had a mixed group of men and women, I arrived first with the girls, the doorman checked our I.D.'s and we walked in with no problem. Strike 1: Tried to walk up to the dance area and we were denied. We were told that we had to buy a drink from the bar in order to go to the dance floor. We came to drink anyway so not a problem at all and we proceeded to buy drinks. Strike 2: The rest of our friends arrived (4 guys). The doorman refused to let them in because there were no girls with the party. Strike 3: We sent the girls out to show the doormen that we were altogether, and the doormen told us ok, but they still have to wait. We asked why and he lost his mind! He began shouting, making threats, calling names and using very offensive, derogatory and homophobic language to my friends and family in line. Of course we all rounded up and left. A total of 10 people, all ready to spend money! Too bad the doorman was extremely unprofessional and rude. Better training needs to be provided to the staff. read more

This is probably the most un-PC review I'll ever write, but whatever. I liked Moe's and I like Mo's because unlike many other bars in cool (read: hipsterfied) parts of Brooklyn I can go and not feel like a speck of pepper in a sea of salt. The drinks are decent, they have a good happy hour, great events: live music, comedy, karaoke. TVs to watch the game, and hetero ladies if you come sans date you can usually find a gentleman to keep you company, if you're into that sort of thing, but there's a pretty big (and cool) bouncer if you're not into that sort of thing. As Renje G. said the guy:girl ratio is pretty good in our favor, ladies. I was there one night and I ran into Jeffrey Wright (from 'Basquiat', and Peeples from the 'Shaft' remake..."Tiger Wooo") and he was so funny and down to earth, I just love that I can have that kind of experience in a neighborhood bar. So on any given night you can come and maybe run into an chill unpretentious celebrity, listen to a band called The Bodega Pimps Quartet (seriously that name is totally badass), have a $6 hot apple cider (post-Happy Hour), and not be the only brown person there. read more

Mo's will always have a special place in my heart. I had worked in the area way back when. After work everyone would go to the same bar all the time. It was nice, but sometimes you need to be different. Sometimes you need to let loose. You need to do something different. You need to steal a dog from a little kid and sell it on the black market..... no wait that's going way too far. I'll just try a different bar in the neighborhood. Mo's was the perfect alternative option. Instead of being around a bunch of co-workers who weren't going to come out of their shells, Mo's had a more local crowd. Yeah sure there was always a pimp or two in there but that should not reflect the place. The clientele is always awesome. Great bartenders. They have an amazing happy hour, buy one get one free. Full bar and a pretty good beer selection. Most recently I came here for a Nets playoff game. Place was packed and filled with people. We we're ready to kill a Bulls fan in the bar. I'm joking.......... We'd only torture them and remove a few limbs. Killing would be too much. If you can grab a spot by the couches and have a crew with you, you should be able to have a great time. It's a great option when in Fort Greene because it's just outside the visibility of the Fulton Lafayette triangle, thus not having so many random foot traffic patrons that will only pack the place. read more

This is a type of place I would go to for a very specific reason. I like the music, bartenders were very friendly. It's a good space for lounging around as well as dancing. However, I am really not feeling the cash only thing. It's just such a turn off and it was without warning. Apparently this is a newer thing because a friend of mine who drops by from time to time said she hadn't seen that before. In any case, consider yourself warned. They were decent enough to install an ATM by the bar, so I guess it's not completely inconvenient. I ended up only getting one drink because I only had about $12 cash on hand. Met up with a girlfriend at Mo's to watch game six of the Knicks/Boston series. Since there were no seats at the bar, we ended up in the back - which turned out to be just fine. The fans were fun, the food was good and though the service was a bit slow (the pretty waitress seemed a little dazed and confused) the back room host was attentive. I ordered the Twin Lump Crab Cakes which is served with a lovely salad. I enjoyed my meal. I also indulged in one of their ginger infused cocktails - well I actually indulged four times - which was delicious. Unfortunately for some reason (perhaps the aforementioned 4 cocktails) I can't remember the exact name of the drink. It was delicious though. My friend sipped several kettle ones and soda (and wished the bartender had been a little lighter on the soda and heavier on the K1) and snacked on the Lobster Quesidilla which she enjoyed. Once the game was over (YAY THE KNICKS WON!), the DJ started spinning and the Friday night crowd started to trickle in. The DJ spun old school, which made me happy, but unfortunately, they ended up turning off the second game (WTF...it's OKC for goodness sakes), and I promptly lost interest in staying. The bill was reasonable but parking was a challenge (that said, both the A and G lines have stops in stumbling distance). Also note it's cash only (booooo, though they do have an ATM). They have lots of events throughout the week. I'm going to check out Karaoke Tuesdays, and I'll definitely be back to watch a few more Knicks games this season. Good times... read more

They FINALLY take credit/debit. Yay! Mo's is really hit or miss with several things: The bartenders vary in skill/drink mixing -- so sometimes you get a really strong, well made drink... other times it's weak or poorly mixed. The waitresses are usually friendly, but there just aren't enough of them. Usually there's only 1 when the place is packed. The DJs are usually pretty good, but sometimes it seems as though they don't watch or pay attention to their crowd. When the music's good, it's good and people dance the night away on a rather compact dance floor. I've never had the food, so I can't comment on that. They have a decent number of TVs if you're there to watch sports. The crowd is interesting. Usually the crowd is mostly late 20s to early 50s African-Americans. More often than not there are several creep 40-50 y/o men with few manners, looking for some youngins, which is just NOT ok. I've seen a lot of couples here on dates, so I suppose it's an ok date spot. Also, there are a lot of regulars. Overall the experience is never BAD, and there's never a dull moment. I keep coming back b/c it's in the neighborhood and it's just an overall chill spot to go. read more

*Disclaimer* Before Moe's closed, it was my favorite bar in the whole city. It was the place where you can go and hear the BEST old school hip hop and r&b. The DJ would switch up and you would hear some good classic reggae and then oldies from Teena Marie and Earth Wind and Fire. It was spacious so people created their own dancefloor and would be getting down. There was a big screen in the back where they would play 80's movies (usually muted) which added to the old school vibes. Then, they closed. People were saddened about the news of their closing but some were surprised that they re-opened. At first I was even excited. But after going back three times since their closing, they might as well have stayed closed. They have a video DJ and the music is the same sh*t you can hear at 99% of other bars in the City. It's mostly Top 40 crap and dance stuff. One night they actually attempted to play old school stuff and the DJ couldn't even mix. He was preoccupied and hardly stayed at the booth! What kind of DJing is that. Plus, the drinks are weak. Point is, this bar lost is character and as a result, lost a loyal former patron. read more

I made the mistake of purchasing a brunch Groupon, and while it was a good deal, it was the worst brunch I've ever had in my life. I ordered the eggs benedict, and my entire plate looked like it was once frozen and then thawed under a heating lamp or something. The potatoes were way too perfectly cut, so I assumed those were once frozen, and they tasted terrible. The biscuit underneath my egg was really chewy and it did not cut easily with my butter knife. The food was not piping hot -- it was luke warm at best. They also advertised "fresh squeezed orange juice," but it was straight out of the carton. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles, and post brunch, had major stomach problems for the rest of the day. Also, they had the fan on for some strange reason, and the wind was not pleasant on my face, considering it was 30 degrees outside and raining. I asked them to turn it off, and as soon as we were leaving, they turned it back on. ;-/ I think this place is cool as a bar, and the service was really good (that's why I gave them two stars)... but they should just stick to serving drinks and forget brunch. This spot is pretty dope. We started off at Mullane's to watch the playoff games last weekend but it was too got dang packed. 49er fans were out in full force. We moved over to Mo's because they had TVs and lots of comfy and mostly empty seats. We were in the back lounge which was the perfect place for me to take advantage of the Sunday night happy hour. I got the $6 martini special and some wings and that's all I remember. Then I woke up in bed. Good place to catch a game or relax with friends. The back seating is perfect for groups. The old Moe's was one of my favorite Brooklyn bars. I was always impressed by the eclectic mix of people that it attracted- artists, business people, hipsters and thugs. Welcome to Brooklyn! Shift in ownership , changed staff, a few renovations, yadda, yadda, yadda...and now we're at Mo's without the e. The first time I went after the new Mo's first opened the bartender told me about the pricing structure which was based on the shelf level that the alcohol bottle was on...except for bottles on the end of the last shelf that had a separate, higher price. "So you basically just nullified, the shelf levels = pricing tier thing". Kinda made no sense to me. I suggested- if this tier system is so important, build a 4th shelf and create a 4th tier rather than getting frustrated when a customer asks why their drink price from the 3rd shelf doesn't match any of the tiers that you just spent time talking about. This totally left a bad taste in my mouth, so I was happy to see that references to the tiers are now completely gone when I returned last night. Thanks- it didn't make sense anyway. This last time, I came on a Saturday and the crowd wasn't too heavy or light. It was easy to breath and if you hung out for a bit, you'd definitely get a seat. The drinks are always good and the bartenders are pretty nice. There was a DJ on and lots of dancing in the upstairs part, but the volume was not overwhelming in the front, so it was easy to hold a conversation. Just be sure that if you come, you bring cash. No credit cards here kids. There is an ATM conveniently placed right outside though. read more

When I first started coming here I really loved it. The vibe was right, the drinks were great and the atmosphere was cool. Now, I really can't say the same. The fact that I have to order outside food is really insane to me. A bar with no food in Brooklyn, like why? I personally don't understand it. Can I get 1 wing? I'm very disappointed today with Moe's. :( Last time I was here I was severely harassed by the bulldog doorman about possibly having a drink while out side in the back smoking a cigarette. I didn't have one on me. In fact I told this person that I don't do that. He did not apologize for the inconvenience. He left with his grumpy self. The next day, literally, I arrive with my girlfriends to enjoy a peaceful drink over poetry night or something like that. I look to my left outside area, and guess what I see??!! People drinking in the outside area. I spot this and alert the "infraction" to the same doorman/harasser, and guess what he does?! Absolutely NOTHING! My first and last visit occurred February 4th during the end cap of Happy Hour. My friends visit this place often and invited me out. At first, we were having a great time and our initial bartender so friendly and accommodating. Once he left and as we were getting ready to leave, two of the staffers thought it was appropriate to laugh and participate in the insulting language started by two patrons at the bar regarding my body type and my outfit. The situation escalated to the point that we involved management and he told us that there was nothing he could do and that he wouldn't apologize for the behavior of his staff and mentioned that we were interrupting his lunch break and insinuated that we were being paranoid, even though myself and my friend heard the words that were being exchanged. He was so belligerent that he made my friend angry to the point of tears and at that point, we left. I am a small business owner and I prefer to patronize small businesses. With the plethora of bars and lounges in the city, I have a choice on where I spend my hard earned dollars. Unfortunately, that will no longer happen at this establishment. read more

Came here on a Tuesday night with my good friend and a group of her co-workers about 3 weeks ago. This place was packed for a weeknight. We made our way to the back about 9pm, wasn't so crowded then but by 11 the back karaoke area barely had room. The host was awesome, definitely entertaining, she can also sing. There are a lot of regulars here with great voices. Mixed crowd, Good drinks, Only 2 mics, small stage but hello its just the back of the bar. I though this place was a really cool spot, definitely would go back. Didnt try the food, but its nice for a casual week night out. You do have to buy a drink to sit in the karaoke area. The songs with the "videos" are not the music videos lol, in fact they really have no relation to the song which was kinda funny lol. read more

Came here last night with my boyfriend and had a great time. We chilled, drank, ate and watched the World Cup. This place has a nice vibe. Young (30s) black crowd. I had the parole punch, catfish tacos, and sweet potato fries. It was great. The parole punch was strong and sweet. The waitress was attentive and took great care of my and my bf. Sat down for 25 minutes and the waitress never even came over to offer me a drink. Talked to the manager about that experience and he seemed less than caring about fixing the problem. When the waitress finally did come over it took her another 10 minutes to bring me a water but the"tables" full of people all around me got wonderful service as she kept coming up the stairs to bring them drinks and offer them more drinks continually. Venues like Mo's always try to do too much. My first visit to Mo's was so cool and chill. I ignored the cheesy Hennesy based cocktail menu and enjoyed the nostalgic 80's and 90s R&B/Hip-Hop music. The couches were comfy and I could have easily ended my night there. However, on my second visit they played a game and the place was loud and crowded like a sports bar. I can't say I'd intentionally visit Mo's again. I like my drinking establishments to have a solid purpose and identity. read more
