The staff are just lovely, each of them is friendly and will have a joke with you, regardless of whether you are a regular or not. Prices are standard for drinks. Food though, this is where the place shines. although certainly not cheap, the quality is just brilliant, all food is cooked to a brilliant standard, and the variety of the menu is stunning considering the size of the establishment. A really brilliant choice if you are looking for a good meal, i'm consistently impressed when i go there. Also has an outdoor beer garden, which is nice in the summer, but nothing special and certainly not a feature i would say is outstanding. Overall, it's a lovely pub, with brilliant service, but the food is what makes it stand out above anywhere else in Plymouth.

It's an old, rustic pub with a pool table and a cordoned off section for buffets. We had a works do there once and the food was really nice - in particular there was a nice big platter of hot salmon - mouth is watering at the thought of it! Oh, and there's a dartboard too. An interesting crowd gather around the dartboard and pool table! The toilets are pretty grim (like many pubs) and it's tough to park on the sloping car park. It's not a central pub, so only really worth visiting if it's in your area.

Just follow the signs past the Mayflower Steps and walk up the hill -- you'll find it! The fish and chips platter is massive. I'm not entirely sure how big a cod is but I think I had most of it on my plate. The chips were very good, as were the mushy peas, but there was just no hope of finishing it. I've had the Sunday roast beef as well, with all the usual accompaniments including Yorkshire Pudding. While it's not the best I've had thus far in my time in the UK (that honor belongs to The Cherub in Dartmouth) it was probably #2 on the list. Much like the fish and chips, it was more food than I could come close to eating in one sitting, but really excellent quality. The gravy was very flavorful and worked well with all the veggies on the plate. It's surprising but nice to have table service in an old pub like the Fisherman's Arms and the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I think this is a little more expensive than your average Sunday pub roast, but with the service I think it was worth it.

This is a fantastic pub…read more. I could have stayed here for ages with all the ales they had, but as a busy drinker I had other pubs to see so made do with a couple of halves. The old pedantic was nice but the plymouth pride was the really good one. All brewed on site...I think....I mean it's not like I checked round the back. There are a couple of different rooms and as usual I prefered the more comfortable one without the pool table.

That such a pleasant looking (award winning apparently) pub, serving good beer on one of the barbican area's charming streets was emptier than the other pubs in the area was simply baffling to me. Not that that is a bad thing Enjoyed a pint of tribute, which I think came from a barrel in the back because the only beers on display were sharps beers...that weren't on yet. I was a tad confused. The pub is dog friendly and as I watched a little yapper on a lead repeatedly try and charge a dog 5 times its size, it was easy to see where the inspiration for Scrappy Doo came from!
