Line out the door. This is what I get for getting up at 8am!
Initially (seeing how I don't do wheat) I never think about bakeries. But walking down the street this morning, the wafting scent of bread beckoned me from blocks away. Upon my approach I could see people in line, standing in the street.
Am I in Moscow? Is there a ration on bread? NO! Its just THAT good! People... everywhere... clamoring to get in line for their pain au chocolate, or perhaps croissant, or even a baguette. I watched as people walked out loaded up with bread! Not that I haven't seen this in Paris, but people of Houlgate do this with the upmost enthusiasm. I've never seen people so happy for le pain!
The croissant was light and flakey, and the pain au chocolate was good. They have a microwave where I'm staying so I took the opportunity to heat it up at home. I walked by again in the afternoon, and the bakery looked like a ghost town. They had a few pastries left, but long gone was the plethora that had welcomed me in the morning.
