After having been to some great places in the Speicherstadt, we decided to follow the amazing…read moresmells of the Spice Museum up the stairs and explore the wonders of far away lands. Poking fingers into sacks of peppercorns and sniffing pots of star anise and cardamom initiated the strong desire to own more spices and fill my kitchen with their amazing smells. Next doors spice bazaar seemed the perfect place to do so. I have to admit I was deeply disappointed by the spices on offer. As far as I can tell one could find all of them in any normal Turkish supermarket over here (and even in some well stocked Sainsburys). They had all the usual TRS spices, plus the very common Pataks curry sauces and some more or less exotic teas. They also stocked a huge amount of what I would call Moroccan nick knacks and souvenirs. That's not a spice bazaar. Its a badly done mixture of a souvenir shop and a supermarket. All very average and not very enticing. It goes without saying that we left the place without buying.

After visiting the Spice Museum, this place is just a few floors down and very inviting. It smells…read moreamazing in here and they have a large selection of beautifully wrapped teas and spices. Unfortunately I found the selection to be a bit lacking and the prices way too high, but I think it's worth a peek in any case as it's just beautiful and smells so good!
