my first Shepherd for Dr Lee
Karen L.

I live in Berkeley and used to go to Berkeley Dog and Cat for all my previous dogs' care. I met Dr. Lee there and I liked her alot and settled on her as my vet. Then the business changed and Dr. Lee went out to Moraga Veterinary Hospital. I have followed her out there although it's a bit of a trek from Berkeley. However, it's like finding Dr. Marcus Welby for pets between Dr. Lee and the incredible staff of Moraga Veterinary Hospital. They have a dog entrance and a cat entrance. The staff is on their toes and absolutely superb. It's the old fashioned days of patient care and such a good attitude, it's worth the trek. My present dog had heartworm before I got him and he is very vet office adverse. That staff and Dr. Lee handle him like the pros they are. And even smile and laugh at his frantic skittering to get out of there. I am so glad I found this group!

My friend recommended this place, and I had an amazing experience when I took my cats there. One of my cats was fixed, and the other had surgery. They are both doing wonderfully.

I was told to wait 18 months to neuter due to Monday being a large breed dog, so I was a bit nervous when I heard that the surgery would be a bit more invasive due to a testicle that did not descend (after my first well puppy exam). I went to a vet in Concord and was quoted a bit over $3000. I was fine with it until my friend told me that it sounded a bit high; and to go to her vet in Moraga. My first thought was, "I ain't going to Moraga where the prices will be higher; because everyone has money in that town." When I called to get a quote over the phone I wasn't surprised that they couldn't do that. I was surprised that they couldn't even estimate within $500. (I understand why though, but I would not be deterred) So I said, "Ok, how about this? How about I tell you my quote that I got and I will determine my plan by your answer?" I swear the gal was trying to be so professional but she may have snorted; I could then tell that my quote was a bit high from the other place. Needless to say the cost of my neuter was literally $1000 less. A THOUSAND dollars less. The last vet also seemed annoyed that they had to have 4 people to try to hold him still for blood work and that they had to literally smoosh him into a corner of the room to trap him. This office didn't even say anything negative about him; not that he was too heavy, that he moves too much, that he has too much hair... What could I say to the last vet, "He is a puppy and he will have many stories to tell you while you try to hold him still." The only thing she said to me was, "At least he is friendly."

Dr. Ian Kidd, Kailee, Suzi and the rest of the staff took wonderful care of my beloved but aging and ailing Australian Shepherd. After helping to ease her out of her pain, they helped ease me out of mine when she passed. Compassionate, thoughtful and kind. They've now followed on with our new puppy and I can tell she is in excellent hands.

I feel so relieved! A friend recommended Rheem Veterinary Medical Hospital to me, and I brought my…read morecat, Mr. Wilson over this morning. The staff were professional, pleasant, and kind. They understand we pet parents are super anxious about our fur baby, and they showed empathy and compassion. Dr. Johnson was wonderful- professional, kind, calm, and reassuring. I was able to be in the room with Mr. Wilson, and hold and reassure him. After meeting with him, I felt so much better about my cat's condition and needs Best of all, the cost was affordable. I've been to other vets who gouge and take advantage of us pet stewards. I hate feeling taken advantage of, and that is definitely not the case here. This is a well established and professional "old school" veterinary hospital. We need more like Rheem Veterinary Hospital. Thank you Dr. Johnson and staff!

I wouldn't wish our experience at Rheem Veterinary Hospital on anyone…read more We trusted Dr. Richard Johnson with our pug, Indi, when she was admitted for seizures and kept overnight for one day (September 24-25). He told us her blood test results were "in" and "looked great." What we later learned was horrifying -- the bloodwork wasn't even performed until AFTER she had already died while in THEIR care. The dishonesty didn't stop there. A front-desk associate gave me a fake lab name ("Cornerstone"), which doesn't exist for veterinary practices in California. And before my family was even notified that Indi had died, the crematory had ALREADY been alerted of her death an hour before our call from them. I was also told that Dr. Johnson would personally call me back about her lab results -- that call never came. They do not return phone calls, even when it involves a dying pet. When we came in to say goodbye, we had to demand that Dr. Johnson speak with us. He told us he "wasn't surprised" by her death -- despite reassuring us the day before and not raising any flags about her status if we should come to see her. Then, a week later, he completely contradicted himself, saying he "was surprised." That kind of flip-flop isn't just careless -- it's cold and raises immense red flags. When I returned a week later to request Indi's records in person, the staff were rude, dismissive, and aggressive -- even though I was a grieving owner simply trying to understand what happened. It took nearly an hour to get a few pages: an intake form with minimal notes. I was never given a physical record noting her death or the blood test results Dr. Johnson claimed "looked great" the day before she died on September 24, 2025. Dr. Johnson could NOT even tell us the exact time or which day Indi passed. Think about that -- they couldn't tell a family when their dog died under their care. In my opinion, this clinic showed a stunning LACK of honesty, empathy, and accountability. If you love your animal, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Rheem Veterinary Hospital shattered our trust in every possible way.

Later, I got a younger dog who turned out to be very fear-aggressive toward strangers and has to be completely sedated for exams. The doctors here have been incredibly patient and helpful as we've worked to find the right medication doses and methods for getting her calm enough for visits. After three years, one of the very patient vets asked if we could try the exam without a tranquilizer. I was skeptical but agreed. She and the tech sat on the floor with me in a dark, quiet room for quite a while--and we were successful! I was absolutely stunned. Then today, my older dog was stung in the face, and it started swelling fast (of course, right at noon on a Friday!). They responded to my texted photos within minutes, gave me instructions for over-the-counter medications, and even squeezed us in between appointments for a steroid shot and a quick exam. I know most vets are overbooked and understaffed these days, so I'm extra appreciative when a team goes out of their way to respond to urgent situations--with patience and a smile, too!

The team at Geary Veterinary Hospital completely changed that experience for us. They could not have been more welcoming, accommodating, or patient. Every member of the team is kind, understanding, empathetic, and balanced in their approach. They spend most of each visit down on the floor with our sweet but nervous girl, taking the time to ensure she feels comfortable and relaxed - and that each visit is as positive as possible (for both of us)! I truly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Loo, who I'm convinced is one of the kindest people on the planet, and her wonderful patient care team. We are so grateful to have found Geary Veterinary Hospital!
