I've seen chiropractors, off and on, for most of my life. Yes, part of it is the lifestyle I've…read morelived in the past -- climbing mountains (and falling off of them), crashing motorcycles, and breaking horses (and vice versa). Part of it is probably congenital; part of it is simple wear-and-tear; and part of it is repetitive stress injury (those things they tell you not to do, and everyone does anyways). Regardless of the reasons, regular chiropractic care, when I could afford it, kept me mobile, functional, and kept the pain to a tolerable level. I'm disabled, now. Part of that was my fault (low back injury on the job, plus not taking the time off to heal); part of that was not (slipped disk in my neck, due to crummy ergonomics and repetitive stress at the microscope). Chiropractic is no longer an option -- it's a necessity, as it's one of the few treatment modalities that preserves function and decreases pain. That having been said, chiropractic works best for me in conjunction with other modalities: acupuncture, physiotherapy, massage, and regular stretching. I've experienced a number of different styles of chiropractic care. Most of the practitioners I've seen have helped me, to a greater or lesser extent; not all styles worked for me. Currently, I find myself inordinately blessed by the acquisition of a chiropractor whose style is ideally suited to my body's needs -- and he utilizes active release therapy, and acupuncture, too. Best of all, he's affiliated with the University Health and Performance Center, a short walk from my building, and he's generously offered a student discount, which makes my twice-weekly essential appointments affordable. Marco Lozej is a true healer -- he's gentle, caring, asks careful and pertinent questions, documents thoroughly, and always acts as a patient advocate. He makes himself available for emergencies, and ensures no one in need is left out in the cold. While I've heard wonderful recommendations for his business partner, I've had such good results from Marco that I'm hesitant to change anything. There was no explanation of a treatment plan based on my current condition. 2. In my first treatment session (2nd visit), they simply had me do simple exercises that I could easily do at home ... again, no mention of a treatment plan to do at home. 3. I asked about TENS or dry needling and they immediately brought a TENS machine out. Again, I'm not blaming the staff, as they are all very nice, but they need more training with respect to dealing with a patient and laying out a treatment plan after they have established a diagnosis. I received no 'homework' or direction on what to work on outside of coming to treatment. I will not return. I've been to Manual Concepts in the past for a similar issue and the treatment / diagnosis was far clearer and a well explained treatment plan was established including exercises to do between visits. I received neither from West Side. I feel they need an experienced physiotherapist to better train the team on how to better relate to patients.

They are currently under investigation by two government agencies for unnecessarily delaying my surgery and Shane the supposed owner and confirmed hack is trying to deflect responsibility. But the process is moving slowly but surely and its not looking good. Obnoxious staff, worse owner avoid at all costs.
