I have a great passion for history and enjoy delving into my family's heritage. Visiting rural cemeteries is a normal pursuit for me, but this particular cemetery is situated in a secluded area on private land. Fortunately, in Tennessee, there are no restrictions on visiting ancestral cemeteries located on private property. Generally, as a rule of thumb, I do try and get permission.
When coming to Moore Cemetery, don't bring a low vehicle. It is much better to bring a jeep, truck, or SUV with a 4-wheel drive, especially since this is really out in the elements with mud and gravel. The cemetery's also a little off of the road, so you'll need good outdoor shoes that can handle the dirt.
This specific cemetery holds a special place in my heart due to the abundance of intriguing stories behind those interred here. There's an 1812 patriot, a man who met a tragic end for stealing whiskey from his friend and then his brother, who later married his widow, raised a large family. The most interesting part? I'm a direct descendant of all of these people.
