I've spent thousands of dollars here over my life. At one time, I came here every Friday and grabbed a CD or two. Every month, I eagerly awaited Punk Planet or Maximum Rock N Roll hitting the magazine shelves. While I don't live in Dubuque anymore, when I come visit, I make sure to stop here. Mike, the owner, can still be spotted. Most of the CDs have been replaced with vinyl at this point, which is great. You can spend a few hours digging through what they have. They also have a large supply of pipes and bongs if that is your thing. Also, tons of posters, shirts, hats and a modest selection of books. read more

The guy with the long hair behind the counter was extremely rude. Needs to work on his customer service. Not everyone is as educated about everything in the store and may have questions. Very disrespectful, wouldn't answer our question. Just kept repeating the same thing over and over and then shook his head at us. Won't be going back there. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Dubuque on a whim a couple weeks ago. We wanted to check out some record stores, and this seemed to be the only place in the city that sells vinyl. We were hoping it would be in a cool, walkable neighborhood with good restaurants and shops nearby. Sadly, it's in a giant strip mall on a very busy cars-only road with lots of chain stores. That said, Moondog Music stands out as a gem in what is otherwise a retail wasteland. They have a vast selection of CDs, some music posters, incense, and a nice collection of both new and used vinyl, with lots more in a storeroom--if you're looking for something you don't see in the bins, they are happy to check the computer to see if they have it in the storeroom. I was pretty impressed with the record selection, and the prices were fair. I had to restrain myself from spending all my cash on records. I walked out of there with five records, and the owner (who's a really friendly guy) threw in protective record sleeves, which was a nice bonus--seriously, why don't other record stores do this? I don't know when or whether I'll ever find myself in Dubuque again, but if I do, I'll definitely make a stop at Moondog Music. read more

I bought something here that didn't work I called them to explain the situation and was told thats not his fault next time I should go somewhere else he was talking over me I couldn't get one word in no apologies for wasting my money he told me to call the manufacturer. I feel thats something he needs to do since he's selling faulty products. He did offer to exchange it but hung up too fast when I tried to explain I live 26 miles away so since you are so strung out for cash keep the money nothing good comes to people like you read more

I know their isn't much to do in Dubuque but this place just doesn't cut it for me. It smells like hippie's are sitting on my shoulder and for an independent store the prices are pretty high. Moondog is great because they have used and new CDs and vinyl. They also buy used CDs, so you can take yours in and make some cash. Like any other place that takes used CDs, they might not take everything you bring in. Their selection is pretty good. They have a section for new releases and top 10. They carry music that is more mainstream as well as a lot of the more obscure stuff. If they don't have something you're looking for, they can order it in for you, although you are probably better just finding it online yourself. You won't necessarily get a better price ordering through the store. They have the biggest selection of Wildberry incense that I've ever seen -- something like 40-50 different fragrances. They also carry Nag Champa. The owner of the store is a really nice and helpful guy, and he makes me feel welcome in his store. However, there is another younger guy (mid 20's, like me) who is a little snooty. I get the impression that he doesn't think I know much about music. I have a pretty broad range of tastes in music, so I don't really want to be judged based on that one time I got Brittney Spears greatest hits (lol, yeah I'll admit it). Their prices are pretty high. I'm sure it's hard to be competitive in prices these days, but no one wants to pay $16 for a new CD when you can get it at Target for $10. The used CDs aren't as expensive, though, so it all comes down to what you're looking for. read more

"Let's go to Dubuque honey!" Why i said that, i don't know. We went though and had a great time. We had the opportunity to go to Moondog, as we're both Music obsessed, and it was the only Record store we could find. After driving out of the City a few miles, we ended up in Hell. You know! Mall Hell. Moondog's located in the middle of this. That's ok. It's totally worth your time to stop here if you do nothing else! Lots of new and used records,...AND a ton more in the back store room, AND they have it all listed on an in house computer. The staff were the friendliest and not a shred of snobbery to be seen. read more

Du Buque is a pretty boring town. However this store makes DuPuke so unique. This is by far one of the coolest independent store i've been to. They have cool posters, an amazing cd collection, incense, all band related materials. The owner knows his music too. Every time i'm in DuBuque, I spend time browsing that store for an hour or so. read more

Fantastic store, best selection of new and used vinyl i've ever seen. Great/competitive prices on the used vinyl, and it's very clean. Friendly and helpful staff, even give u a friendly "hello" when you u walk in the door. They carry a fantastic array of other items like t-shirts and posters and other misc odds and ends. It's neat just to come in and look around and stare at the rock n roll memorabilia on the walls. read more

Pretty nice place; lots of merch crammed into a small store in a strip mall. Fairly even mix of vinyl & CDs, which is then split into a fairly even mix of new & used. Took me 40 minutes to scroll through their entire used vinyl section, and I came away happy to spend money there. They also sell lots of incense & head gear, if that's your fancy. Worth a trip if you're in Dubuque. read more

this is a really great store, the staff is very helpfull a great place to buy vinal of today's artists as well as cd's prices maybe high but I don't care it is worth the trip. read more
