We didn't want to have the kitchen open back up for us if they were already wrapping up. They assured us the kitchen wouldn't be closed for another 15 minutes so to come on in. We ordered the pizza, and the pizza guy had a meltdown. Apparently he had already started cleaning up for the night. We felt bad but also a little off putting that he would make such a scene in front of all the guests. Other than that we had a wonderful meal.

They brought us complementary bruschetta, which was absolutely delicious!! Then we shared some calamari fritti, it was so juicy and delicious! The rest of our party all enjoyed their food as well!

We came around 7:15 and were able to get seated right away. I suppose that's early-ish for dinner in Italy. The menu is via QR code on the table and available in various languages. We each got a bowl of pasta: Lumberjack (which is a provolone cheese sauce with mushrooms), the Carbofunghi (which is like carbonara plus mushrooms, and good ol' ragu, which the kids have been enjoying. The pastas were all very delicious. I love that every pasta dish I've had here is consistently cooked perfectly al dente. We also got a slice of tiramisu but was too full so go it for takeout . Had it back at the hotel and it was delicious as well. Quite light and airy in fact. If you're in the area, I definitely would recommend.

Both tasted like they'd been frozen beforehand and were among the worst meals we've had in Italy. What made it worse was the service. We were completely ignored the entire time. When we did get served, it was no eye contact and just staring at us to tell the server what we wanted (and that was after I had to wave them down!) At first, I thought they were giving us privacy, but everyone around us had their tables cleared and were offered dessert while we sat with our finished plates for at least five minutes. When we finally got up to leave, they stopped us to offer dessert, which was a nice gesture, but by then, the experience had already soured. There was no music playing either, making the whole meal feel awkwardly silent. With so many great options in Milan, I wouldn't recommend this one.

And we were not disappointed! The food was simple and delicious - we started with a Caprese salad, very nice, followed by bread that was super fresh and a heartier flavor than we had at other restaurants. For entrees we decided on seafood after so many pasta and pizza meals - we tried their grilled tuna and grilled swordfish, and both were outstanding. The tuna had a nice salt/subtle seasoning and was prepared perfectly, seared on the outside and rare on the inside. My wife's swordfish was also nicely prepared, and the portion was huge - twice the amount she expected (see photos)! And the generous portion of veggies were tasty. For dessert my wife had tiramisu and said it was among the best she had on our entire trip (and she had many!). I had a wonderful pistachio dessert with almonds on the outside that was great (forgot the name), but highly recommend it. Service was professional and prompt (no hovering, a pet peeve). As we ate, the restaurant filled with locals who all seemed to know the staff personally, creating a friendly and comfortable atmosphere with a nice family feel. We walked to the restaurant so I can't comment on parking, but the neighborhood was clean and the restaurant exterior is well-lit. So, if you like excellent food at reasonable prices with great service, try San Mina!
