It's the WWI monument that sits prominently in front of the Cannes City Hall on Allées de la Liberté. It was designed by sculpture Albert Cheuret to honor fallen soldiers. What I love is that the sculpture has representations of serviceman from all 3 branches that fought from the land, sea, and air. The winged victory statue is being carried on a shield by an airman, sailor, and 2 infantry soldiers. You can tell that a lot of thought & passion went into designing and sculpting it.
There are bronze plaques around the pedestal that list the names of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country. It's appears to now represent all wars, and not just WWI. It's a great way to commemorate all of them. It was decorated with floral arrangements from allied countries while we were there. It's a very respectful tribute that shouldn't be missed. read more
