Considered the most active volcano in Europe. We visited this place on a rather hot day and we were excited to get to the higher cooler temperatures at the top. With a tour group we got to skip the first long line and got directly onto the rail cars. These were a lot of fun, sailing over the landscape in and out of the clouds. You can walk directly up the mountain but that would take to much time for our group. Up next we got on a off road buss that takes you further up. This bus is great bouncing all over the place. We walked around seeing over the edge as the clouds came in and out. Because of the weather this is as far as we could climb today. Back down the mountain we visited Crateri Silversti, walked up and around it. Very cool, so much black rock and surprisingly it doesn't dirty up your shoes. read more

Mount Etna is extraordinary. It is an active volcano and has some of the most beautiful landscape you will ever see. There are many ways to get to your destination. There rail cars to go part of the way as well as buses, off-road buses, rental cars and private tours. I normally do not recommend private tours, as I like to do what I want when I want. Because this area was unfamiliar to me and I had never been I thought it best to take a private tour with the family and it was an excellent decision. The area is magnificent and you will never see anything like it. The locals as well as a tourist are ever so friendly and will help guide you. This is not a trip I would take if I was unwell, I suggest it for people who are relatively healthy. There is just so much to do it's so much fun. I cannot recommend it more highly. The drive up to Mt. Etna is beautiful! I went in July & it was 40 degrees F. Lots of cloud coverage & very windy. Couldn't see too much from the top of the mountain. Pay to take a cable car or a truck that will transport you higher up the mountain. Depending on how far up you want to go, depends on how much you will pay. You can't go to the very top without a guide & I think they only do guided tours in the early morning. read more

This place was cool to see from the bottom of Mount Etna. We actually stopped at Crateri Silvestri which was where a lot of tourists came to walk and hike around. The ground was black and you might think it would make your shoes black too but mine were fine. There was cable cars that went up Mount Etna so you could see it from the top view; however, we didn't have time to do that as we only had one hour to look around before we went back to the cruise ship. It was a little crowded with tourists but nothing out of the ordinary. There were people hiking up to get a little bit closer. I thought it was interesting to see an active volcano up close. read more

bellissima! It is absolutely majestic and there aren't enough words to explain its beauty.

First time ever visiting Mount Etna and it was a truly unforgettable experience. The area surrounding is very commercialised with lots of souvenir shops and restaurants. The area is slightly pricey as you would accept in a great tourist spot. The views are top class, make sure to climb all of the walk ways they are free and offer the best views. The largest crater next to the car park is amazing. The climb is very difficult and not for the fainthearted however the views are brilliant. The climb is not the safest as the path is narrow with no safety railing to stop you from falling especially on winding days great care should be taken. There is some great wildlife here too - which let me get loads of great pictures. Cannot recommend this place enough! It's a must see if you are visiting Sicily! read more

Beautiful, majestic volcanic peak. The tour is worth taking so you can appreciate the coal black fields rising up into the sky. Special Mercedes vans take you to the top and there is even a celebratory shot of the local spirit. Unbeatable views of Sicily all around. read more

It was such a fun experience. It costs about 63€ to go on the cable car and the bus ride up. The bus will take you to about 7500' elevation. Once you get up there you hike to the lower craters first (which doesn't have any lava showing on the surface). I wasn't able to go to the top where the lava is (about 10,000' elevation) because it was roped off. A mountain guide will take you around up top and explain the different sites. They are able to speak Italian, English, and possibly other languages. Mt. Etna is considered the most active volcano in Europe. It's definitely not something you want to miss out on. read more
