It is not a great Indian restaurant or a great Southampton restaurant or a great vegetarian restaurant; it is a great restaurant (and coming from a devout meat eater). The food is very modern and hard to describe; while it's roots are in Indian food it is nothing like you get at other Indian restaurants (either a local curry shop or the gourmet Michelin star ones in London). It is all incredibly creative, beautifully presented and tastes fantastic. I started with the lotus leaf chips (Nadru chips) which were very tasty, not greasy and accompanied a unique (good) caramelised onion chutney. For a starter I had the gobi Manchurian, which was battered cauliflower, also excellent with good depth. For me, the star of the dinner was dubki kadhi, an aubergine dish that was incredible, served in a domed plate that included a cute little smoke presentation. At the center was an aubergine steak but around it was aubergine multiple ways, my favorite was the spaghetti and the fritters. My only slight disappointment was the dahl side, which tasted good but came with a large percentage of rice (not on the menu) and I'm not a rice eater. Even the masala chai was tasty. This is one of the best restaurant I've come across in the world (and I travel, and eat, a lot), don't get scared by the vegetarian or Indian moniker, it is just a great meal.
