First time to this craft brewery; clearly a mistake not getting here earlier! Fabulous beer selection, all Belgian style of course. Probably the best menu for a craft brewery in the Bend area. Great tasting sandwiches and there are larger entrees to fit the hungriest of people. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

We stopped in here for a drink after a walk near the old mill. Nice big space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The beer is a little different, more stout flavored and German like. I had a berry cider that was good. A band was playing at the amphitheater so we were able to hear part of that. Friendly staff. We probably wouldn't go back, but everyone should try it here! read more

Been coming to Bend for years and always missed getting this stamp on the beer trail. Better food than most pubs and breweries and some would say the beers are better. It's old style beers and should be next on your list to check out while enjoying the views of the river. I really enjoyed the Saison (which I usually do) and the other lighter beers. My family and I stopped in to have lunch and drinks at Monkless after we saw their outside patio while floating down the Deschutes River. The inside is absolutely beautiful - I love that they have preserved Bend history with a table made out of a historic tree that has to be removed from Mirror Pond. I would have loved to sit at it but the day was so gorgeous we had to sit out on the patio. We had two kids with us and one of the kids was under five so we did have to wait for a low table to be cleared because 5 and under cannot sit at the high top tables on the patio. Those have the most shade and bear view so I was a little sad about that but I am sure it is for safety so it's hard to be mad about that. I got the 8 flight (after hilarious peer pressure from my husband and server). The beers were delicious but it was a lot and the next day I wish I would have gone with the 4 lol. My family is vegetarian and there were only a couple of options - however I love that on the kids menu there was carrots and ranch. My kids had that and their butter Parmesan noodles. My husband opted for fries and a pretzel. I had more options and got the curry chicken sandwich. It was good but it was a little too salty so I couldn't finish it but it wasn't awful. The fries and the three dipping sauces were definitely my favorite! If you are looking for a good beer and some amazing views of the old mill district in Bend, this is a winning choice. read more

What a great place for Belgian style beers in Bend! This brewery and restaurant had a very fun vibe and I was glad that my partner was able to try an assortment of his favorite kind of beer. We wanted to visit the Old Mill District and were a little overwhelmed with how many breweries there were around here. However, we ended up at Monkless Belgian Ales since they specialize in, you guessed it, Belgian Ales, which is my partner's favorite kind of beer. It was time to treat himself! We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty busy, but the restaurant and brewery was so spacious that there was plenty of room, including a covered, outdoor space where dogs are allowed. Bingo! Since I was DD I just ordered an iced tea with a mango puree, which was refreshing, while my partner had a sampler of four different Belgian ales. We also shared the sausage sampler, as they had a full food menu here. There was a lot to like here, including the many different beers, if you're a Belgian fan, as well as the Belgian/European style food, like sausages, schnitzels, moules et frites, etc. We enjoyed the sausage sampler, which was a great plate to share. It came with three different style sausages and accoutrements that paired well with the sausage. Of the bunch, I liked the bratwurst the best with the sauerkraut and brown mustard, which you can't go wrong with. But everything was tasty. If we hadn't had dinner plans, we could've easily dined on more, as the menu was appealing. I would come back here! This was a great, fun, spacious brewery and restaurant with quick, friendly service and an area that's dog-friendly. Lots to like. Glad we discovered Monkless Belgian Ales while in Bend. read more

This review is for service only. We didn't eat here, which might have been part of the problem. They wouldn't seat us because we were only ordering drinks. The ONLY one place someone just drinking can sit at is ok the sidewalk in front. We were not allowed to sit at the bar (only for eating customers), at any of the open seats in the patio or the long giant table inside (all of which were wide open during the 20 min we stood around drinking our drinks). It was just totally bad vibes and the staff didn't seem to be able to make decisions based on the situation or on a case by case basis. They simply didn't care that there were dozens of empty seats and we were all standing around. The topper was this picture i took at the register. The service here was great. The server was very friendly and helped us pick out different beers for our flight and also let us sample a few extra. We ordered the risotto and pork schnitzel. The risotto was just okay, the steak on it was just not very good. The schnitzel had a lot of thyme on it. It tasted like Thanksgiving. Good and very authentic Belgian beer, according to my German boyfriend. Now this is my review: good beer. Pork schnitzel: soft and juicy pork. The fries are crispy outside and soft inside. Two friends and I had a lovely lunch at Monkless today! All of us loved our food - Mandarin Poppyseed salad for me, Beet & Truffle Goat Cheese salad for one friend and a burger for my other friend. The fries that came with the burger were FANTASTIC!! I also loved my Royal Hibiscus mocktail. We really enjoyed sitting on the back patio in the shade with a marvelous view of the river. This place is quite amazing. The dinner area is very classy and the beer flight was awesome. We got three light and 5 dark. $20 for 8 is a good deal. My dark beer side were very rice and delicious. They have great food selections too. Our beet salad was really good, well balanced. The steamed mussels are accompanied with generous amount of toasted bread (delicious). This place is beautiful. It's right on the river with scenic outdoor dining and creative indoor lighting and seating. I really enjoyed the ambiance. The food is also quite unique, but missed the mark. The Bavarian pretzel was disappointing only being breadsticks and they were not that good. I'd skip them. The bratwurst had very flavorful sauerkraut and mustard, but the actually brat was bland. The burgers were so juicy that the whole burger fell apart. Our server did not bring us water until we got our food and took a long time to come to our table when we wanted to leave. There isn't a time me and my family come to visit Bend that we don't make it a point to stop here! I wish there was one close to us, oh well maybe we'll just have to move here ! But in all honesty we haven't had a single menu item here ever, that wasn't amazing! Today my daughter and I had the burger which was full of flavor and very filling. My son had the chicken tenders which were extra crispy and twice the size I normally see for a kids meal. You also have to get one of their beers, or a few, as most of them are also great (I had the Trinity)! Especially with a burger. We came in with a large party that included 9 young kids. Super glad that they were able to accommodate a large party, and the service was top notch! The poutine I had was very fulfilling, not the traditional poutin, but has several highlights including excellent fries and fresh cheese curds. The pork Schnitzel reminds us of the ones we had in Germany/Belgium, a big thumbs up. The beignet is more of a solid cake than donut, delicious but we were hoping for more of a Cafe du monde donut style. The sample beer flight was somewhat mediocre, I generally enjoy most Belgium beers, but all of the sample didn't quite stand out, that's not to say they weren't good, but just not what I was expecting. (they have bottled flight of rochefort, westmalle.. Etc, these are some of my favorites after spending three weeks in Antwerp). Service was honestly so terrible. I've worked in hospitality over 10 years and honestly this is the first bad review I've ever left. We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday night obviously expecting a wait. Got added to a wait list, were told 30-40 min. When we were speaking with the hostess (who was really sweet), I asked about the high top counter outdoors to see if that was part of reserved seating, which apparently it was. When we finally got sat 50 min later, it was at those same seats that remained vacant the whole time that I had politely asked about. Then it took 15 min to even be greeted by our server, and another 30 after that to receive our drinks. We received the food 50 min after ordering, then never saw our server after. Had to ask multiple staff to get us someone to close out. Me and my siblings are extremely understanding when it comes to busy restaurants but this was the most absurd experience we've ever experienced. What was the most frustrating was that their manager was nearby the whole time and seemingly aware and didn't do anything. As a hospitality professional that's just lazy to me. If you clearly notice something going on in your establishment you should at the bare minimum acknowledge it. read more

The Sweet Potato Hummus with veggies and pita was flavorful and the perfect complement to the Dubbel or Nothing beer. Husband had the only burger in the menu and was happy with the results. I also got the pork schnitzel sando ($16) which was really good! Thin fried chicken with a sweet Asian slaw. The roasted Brussels sprouts dish was a surprisingly large portion with small Brussels sprouts and some chunky bacon pieces.
