My friend and I live in Orange County but had heard great things about Monkish Brewing in Torrance so we were trying to get over there. We heard they opened one in Anaheim (i.e., *in* Orange County) so we made our way over. The location is very close to the Anaheim Packing District. Wonderful beers. The Feminist is a triple and has a great tangy flavor. The Stout is sweet, more like a porter, but with those delicious coffee-ish, chocolate-y flavors. Highly recommend. I visited this spot on 02/26/2023. Walked by it a few times while at the Packing House and finally decided it was time to try this location out. I've visited the Torrance location and loved it, so I was pretty hopeful for this location. It wasn't too busy. Pretty sure it was because of the chilly weather and the limited indoor space. I'm a sucker for flights, which they don't have here. I settled for 6 oz pours of Domino Effect and Amaze and Blaze, then later a full pour of the porter. Can't remember its name but I enjoyed them all. Definitely would want to try the rest of the menu. The beer tender was friendly, and offered water for my group..as he saw I had my son with me. I usually visit the more family friendly-ish breweries because I love the games and overall energy they bring. This probably would not be one of them that I recommend, but my son's 12, so he's better with entertaining himself. That and I planned on studying, so I wasn't looking for all the wildness. My son loves snacks though..which they don't have here. With the packing house across the way, we had no issues with grabbing some food to bring over for him. There were three of us, so we chose to sit outdoors. It was a bit on the chillier side. They have some heaters, but they don't exactly warm up the table area. That would be my only negative about this spot because as it got later, I was a bit colder than I would have liked to be. Obviously, that'll change as summer nears. Parking can be a bit tricky here, but if you frequent this area often or anywhere with minimal parking, such as LA, it's not too bad. Was not at all impressed with the place. Like to go with flights so that we can sample different beers. Mostly IPA. Which is fine if you're into the IPA's. Only one fellow working. She said it tasted like a Truley, only not as good. They have a very limited option of beers so I couldn't understand how they did NOT give you a better description of what they have to offer. Visited Monkish on a whim even though it's been on my must visit lists for awhile. I've always wanted to check out their Torrance location so I was glad they opened up a location in Anaheim which is closer to home for me. Monkish took over what used to be Anaheim Brewery (next to the Anaheim Packing District) and it looks more or less the same. We sat inside at the bar and ordered half pours of 8 different beers so we could try a variety. They don't do flights or tasters so the half pour is a great option if you don't want to commit to a full glass. I'm not a huge fan of sours but theirs sounded interesting so I ordered a couple sours along with several IPAs and surprisingly what I liked a lot was their hibiscus beer. The color was really pretty and it was unique and tasted really good. I ended up picking up a few 4 packs to take home and I definitely plan on being back. The bartenders were awesome, fun to talk to and made some great recommendations. read more

I'm a huge fan of the beer from Monkish. I have been for years and I also was the "Duke" of the original location on more than one occasion, haha. The beer itself I've had a long history with. I've actually met some of my really good drinking friends are waiting in line for this beer. Although I've been at the original location more times than I can count, this is my very first time visiting this location. It's located right across the courtyard or on the same block as the Anaheim packing house. It's such a nice little walkable area. The size of the menu and selection available when I visit the Anaheim is pretty similar to the location in Torrance, but what Torrance doesn't really have is a really nice courtyard that the Anaheim location got into (although the area the Torrance location created during the pandemic is pretty nice). I like a lot of the different style of beers that Monkish makes, but they're really known for their hazy IPAs. We ordered about four small pours of different hazy IPAs because I want to try as many as possible. Because of their unique hop bills and methods, there's subtle differences to the different IPAs. I enjoyed all the ones we ordered this time. We took our beers to the courtyard and sat on a bench against the wall. I'm not used to having a nice setting like this when going to Monkish, but I really like it! It was a perfect day to drink outdoors and this place takes full advantage of that. My friends are a fan of Henry Nguyen, the founder of Monkish, so somehow four of us came here for some day drinking. They are located near the Anaheim Packing District so parking was a pain. I gave up and valeted my car ($6). Street parking is scarce if you feel lucky. The interior of the location is minimal a digital menu projected onto their wall and a few tables. Their exterior space is a lot more spacious with a few tables that have chairs and a few high tables where you can stand around and hang out. Pet friendly patio area so my friends were able to bring 2 of their cute Frenchies. So they have beers available to enjoy there, and some canned beers for the road for $21-25/pack of 4. If you live within California they are able to ship their products to you. What bummed me out the most is that they did not have any stouts. Stouts are my fav. Since I don't like hoppy, I went with the Belgian-ish column. Tried a bunch of these in the 6oz. size so I could try more variety: Song of Silence single/blond 4.5% abv $4/6oz Anomaly dark strong ale 9% abv $5/6oz Feminist tripel with hibiscus 9.4% abv $5.50/6oz Seme Della Vita tripel with pistachios & vanilla beans 9.8% abv $6/6oz They were all decent. I liked the Anomaly the most since it was the closest thing to a stout resemblance. I got a few of those once I was done experimenting. Chill times with good friends. A bit annoying to deal with the parking situation and I had to wipe down the tables with my wet wipes and it was dirtyyyyy. They said it is rare for them to have stouts so it is unlikely that I would choose to come back if I was the one planning the outing. read more

Hazy IPA Mecca now has a second location. Monkish Brewing is a craft brewery that originally started circa 2012 as a Belgian brewery but truly caught fire in the craft beer scene when they dove into a trendy emerging style of the India Pale Ale known variously as New England IPA or hazy IPA. They instantly became my favorite makers of that style when I first visited their original Torrance brewery. When they took over this location, I knew I had to visit it sooner than later, so I did. Although they're not in the main building, they're still pretty much part of the Anaheim Packing District. Thus, parking was an absolute hellscape. As we were on a bit of a time crunch, we opted for valet ($7) and then took a short walk across the patio area to reach Monkish (which is right next to Umami Burger). Fortunately, Monkish itself wasn't crowded, and we proceeded to try several beers soon enough while enjoying their spacious patio (as opposed to the relatively small and simply decorated interior). We mostly shied away from full pours ($7 to $10, with varying pour sizes) and tried to stick to 6 oz pours ($4 up to the outlier of $7). I won't go into too much detail about specific beers because they rotate most of them all the time, but the the hazy IPAs still lived up to expectation. I'd rate each individual option somewhere between 4 and 5 stars. Some of the standout hazies on this visit (and over the years of pilgrimages) are so juice-like and filled with various fruit flavors that mostly spare your palate from bitterness. Just for posterity, I'll wax poetic about some special beers which I was fortunate enough to try. They had various special 10th (or roman numeral X) anniversary offerings. The JXVIAL was a hazy IPA with an outrageous but surprisingly addictive vanilla ice-cream-esque character. The MXNASTIQUE was a quadrupel aged in Cognac barrels, and it harmoniously combined raisiny goodness and Cognac richness (oh, and if they tap out of something while trying to fulfill your order, you get the incomplete pour for free). The JXLT was a very tasty vanilla coffee stout. By the way, they do offer four-packs of cans for take-home purchase (ranging $16 to $24 on this visit), as well as some individual bottles variously offered for on-site or take-away (even higher price variance). Parking difficulty or not, I'd love to return to the Monkish Brewing of Anaheim much sooner than later. They are still at the top of their game and I do not hesitate to recommend them to any fans of craft beer. read more

Totally a big fan of Monkish original location. Henry the owner runs a tight ship there, and this place feels like the total opposite from what he believes in. I remember when first stepping into Monkish in Torrance it was small, industrial setting, with lots of dogs running around and had a sign that said "it will never serve IPAs." But fast forward to today, not only does Monkish makes some of the best IPAs out there, it is one of the highest traded beers if you can do some of the can grabs. So as to this location, it is next to Umami burger, in the former Anaheim Brewing. So for all you packing house fans what wants an outdoor setting instead of Iron Press for beers, I would totally recommend coming here. However, you'll have to be a total hophead to appreciate the beers here. Foggier Window-5 stars. Smooth, with a clean dry hop finish Anomoly-5 Stars. Dark ale, sweet finish Dark and Mild-3 stars, tasted like day old coffee. Also the selection is pretty small here, they do half pours as well. The outdoor space is quite large. But if you were like us and came around 1pm, it was already packed and we lucked out on a standing table. Beer people here are just as nice. Price is a little higher than I remembered but totally worth it still. I do wish Henry would bring back more of his Belgiums because this was where I started drinking that style of beer. I also miss having using tokens and go to a separate line just to get a fill. I personally parked closer to center street and walked a block. Weekend parking in the surrounding area can get tricky. read more

I adore Monkish...the owners, the staff, the beer. Something about this new OC location has me a bit thrown. It just feels a bit out of place from what I know and love of Monkish from their original location in Torrance (in an industrial setting, far removed from anything else). This location took over the old Anaheim Brewing location. It's next to Umami Burger, other restaurants, and the Packing House. I think this is what deters me. It doesn't have that "I traveled specifically for this beer" vibe. The patrons there probably don't appreciate it as they would if they went to the Torrance location. The outdoor space is also a bit cramped for these crazy COVID times. Don't get me wrong, I love having another option to get the well crafted Belgian beers, sours, stouts, and the IPAs they swore they would never make. I think this will most likely just become another stop before/after a Disney trip. If I just want a beer from them, I'll stick with going to their Torrance location. read more

As a craft beer lover Monkish has been on my list to try forever. They have some of the best beer I've ever had especially on the IPA variety. With an array of selections to choose from you simply can't go wrong with any selection. I opted for the West Surf West Coast style IPA, so crisp and hoppy, my palate was dancing. I then finished off with Bathe in Basslines which were their double IPA with Citra and Galaxy, what a hazy juice bomb, absolutely amazing. Grabbed some cans to indulge in on my way out. Service at the counter was very good, not being from around here they gave us many locations and were willing to let us try any beer before we committed to a pour. My wife got the Pina Colada seltzer based slushee and was very satisfied with jt. For any craft beer fans Monkish must be on your list, their beer is simply top notch. read more

The Monkish Brewing location in Anaheim recently opened, so I recommend visitors temper their expectations as they get established and check their website for Holiday Hours. I've heard nothing but great things about the original location in Torrance so I've been eagerly anticipating the grand opening of their new location. We went on a Sunday shortly after opening and there was plenty of seating outdoors. If you use the Untappd app, you'll find most of their offerings are incredibly highly rated. I tried their DDH Moonk, Life Sized and the Beer of the Day - Anaheim. Everything I consumed had high ABV (the barleywine was 16.0%) which I'm totally good with and the overall taste and flavor profile was smooth and balanced. By the time we departed the brewery, it was standing room only and a queue had formed to place orders. I've found my new fave local brewery and am already looking forward to the next visit. So glad there's one closer now! Love their beers. Just wish they had more options for for non ipa drinkers since majority (90%) of it are ipas. Not complaining though since their hazy ipas are good. The space is small though (inside) and does get crowded so I recommend coming early. They do have a large outdoor patio area, but when it rains, everyone is inside. read more

I had been wanting to try Monkish for a while now, but hadn't been able to get out to the Torrence taproom. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a taproom in Anaheim, so we had to stop here on our last trip. The taproom is nice overall, but surprisingly small with minimal seating and difficult parking. However, their beers make up for any downsides and they're definitely worth the trip. They specialize in IPAs, so if you don't like them this may not be the place for you. They have half pours here (no flights), so that's a great way to try your way around the menu. They have 4 packs to go as well and I honestly wish I was able to pack more in my suitcase because their IPAs are just fantastic. If you're looking for a spot with some fantastic beer, then look no further. This place has some of the best beers I have tasted in orange county. The only downside I could see to this place is the parking situation. Being at the packing district, parking can be a hit or miss depending on the time. I am not sure when they replaced the other brewery but this place has been added to my favorites. They do tend to lean more towards the hoppy side, but they have beers of every kind. Not too many breweries serve tripels, but they have a few here and each one is great. I'm also a fan of the darker beers so the "cold black heart" and "spark the brain" are both delicious in their own way. Some other goodies were the "winter monk" and "space cookie". I'll be looking to try some others very soon. read more

Most breweries have their "flagship" brews and rely on these top sellers; however, I feel Monkish has so many amazing options, I won't get bored with rotating through all them.
