Behold the flatbread sandwich, Italian style…read more
La Piadineria specializes in a variety of flatbread sandwiches filled with cheese, vegetables, and/or meat. I didn't know which one to pick so I got one of the most basic ones: La Leggenda (crudo, squacquerone, rucola). Nonetheless, each and every one of the varieties sounded delicious with incredibly fresh ingredients. My crudo was thinly sliced and flavorful. The squacquerone was soft and the rucola was a hefty handful, sharp and peppery. The overall product was perfectly balanced in textures and flavor. Think of the piadine like a pizza folded in half, a half moon tortilla, or two oversized crispy wafers blanketing salty ham and melted cheese. The result is bigger than your face and large enough to feed two people. La Piadineria was definitely the right place for an authentic snack and quick bite, as we were looking for something not targeted to tourists.
The piadineria was spacious and clean. It is a casual setting where you order from the counter and bring the food back to your seat. Basically, it's a fast food chain. We had gone late in the afternoon and there was only one worker there and two other customers. It was quiet and a nice change of pace after filtering through the crowds of Piazza delle Erbe. The piadines are inexpensive ranging in cost from about 3 to 5 euros. Drinks are at most 2 euro, including beer.
