So much of the two stars I'm giving Mona's is for location. Simply cannot beat the spot perched at the end of a point peeking into the Detroit River, with views of Fighting Island and much more! That said, this is a restaurant, not a park or an observatory. If you just want a cool view with your breakfast, grab something from the establishment down the street and enjoy it on one of the piers adjacent to the restaurant on a nice day.
The food here is not very good. Mona's was touted as a greasy spoon, a local classic, a must-do, etc. I did it once a couple years ago and it was so crappy, I hadn't been back until today. It was closed when I tried to return. I shall try again soon to see if anything has changed.
Greasy... Check. Simple... Check. Outdated... Check. Bland and uncreative food that belongs in another era... Check.
Nothing was inedible or nasty, just blah to a fault. The service clearly didn't spur me to race back.
So, we return to the point of Mona's -- literally... Location. Without it, this place would have closed decades ago. read more
