We've had a "blast" doing this noble function and pretty much have been spot-on with accuracy. But tonight all of that changed! Our youngest and his wife gave us a name of this French restaurant here in Montreal, Canada that we never heard of; and we "Deep Dive" every restaurant in every city we go to. Le Violon here in Montreal was just about as good as any restaurant we've ever encountered.......ever. Yes, it was just that great! This place is sold out 24 / 7 and we absolutely know why. We were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar (which actually are the best seats in the house) watching this kitchen of five very talented souls "do their thing"! As fantastic as the food was, the service and ambiance were equally as good. * My London Dry gin martini was sipped so slowly as I savored every drop * My wife's white wine was picked by this young and in the know sommelier * Our tuna with beets, quince and crème fraiche was outrageously good * The beef battuta Alla piemontese was sensational * Their Cappellacci which is a traditional Italian dish was hand-folded stuffed egg pasta with a Quebec flair * Their Classic French seafood dish made with pétoncles (scallops) with tomatoes, baked in a creamy wine or mushroom Béchamel sauce was out of this world * Pintade which is The Quebec guinea fowl is a fine and tasty poultry, halfway between chicken and game, known for its lean, tender meat rich in protein. I've never tasted fowl this delicious * Corn du Roi with pine nuts and matsutake mushrooms * Two desserts and two white wines was the perfect ending for this incredible dinner Our dinner was mind blowing and we cannot thank our youngest and his lovely wife for this recommendation. Now, we will let our children do the exploration and recommending! Ty

Le Violon absolutely lived up to the hype…read more Everything I had was superb. Started with the warm Pullman buns and Green Goddess butter, dangerously good and a great indication of what was to come. The squid with beans was beautifully cooked, tender, lightly charred and full of flavour, with the beans and sauce making it a surprisingly rich and satisfying dish. The guinea fowl with peppers, anchovy and aïoli was another standout: crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and incredibly well balanced. Finished with the tahini gelato with Concord grapes and saba, which was fantastic. Creamy, nutty, fruity and just unusual enough to make it memorable, a perfect ending. Service was excellent throughout: warm, friendly and attentive without ever feeling formal or intrusive. And the atmosphere really adds to the experience. There's a genuine buzz in the room, lively, stylish and energetic, and you immediately understand why Le Violon has become one of the new darlings of the Montreal food scene. It feels like a restaurant people are genuinely excited to be at. Fantastic food, excellent service and a great vibe. Definitely one of the highlights of my Montreal dining experiences.

We were having our final night in Montreal so we were wandering around the very busy "old town"…read morearea and came upon this steakhouse. It was very busy but we were able to secure a nice table by the window. I had a starter of the oysters which were excellent but small. We both ordered filet mignon, mine was enrobed with bacon. We both had the soup; Joe had the minestrone and I had the French onion (all time fav). The mashed potatoes were excellent but the carrots were very undercooked. Our waiter was excellent and very helpful when it came to the tipping. On the receipt (shown) it showed a charge that said TIPS which I confused with a added tip, it wasn't it was the Canadian mafia charge! Loved that my filet was cooked to perfection! Very important. I would highly recommend this place in the heart of old town.

By then, no condiments were available for the luke warm potato. I had to go ask for butter and sour cream. Not impressed.

Presentation is nice but clearly doesn't have the same elegance you'd find in bigger halls. The place is VERY busy, with multiple parties going on and staff moving to and back. Not much of an area to hang out in or let the kids run loose. There's a bar in the lobby. Food was decent. Good soup, good salad but the main meal of pork tournedos was bland and forgettable.
