I used to volunteer here years ago, and while I don't know how much has changed since then, I'm…read moregoing to be the one to speak up about my experience so others don't face the same thing as I did. First of all, the entrance to drive there was awful. The ground would get muddy and wet when it rained, and it would create huge floods to drive through. It would also have a lot of hidden stuff, like nails, which caused my mother's car to get a flat tire because they never checked the entrance at all. So if you do drive there, be extremely careful. Second, all the people in charge were classist and rude. If you were rich with money, they'd make sure you were given free food, a horse to ride, and lots of other benefits. They would provide free meals and treats all the time for them only; however, those who didn't have money like that didn't get to enjoy the same privileges unless one felt generous in the moment and offered us scraps. If you weren't rich, they would look down upon you and ignore you, even mistreat you if they wanted to, for absolutely no reason. They would only tell us all to "get back to work" if they caught us stopping to watch them while they ate all their free treats and meals in a huddled group like pigs. Third, speaking of mistreatment, they got very jealous of anyone that had experience in taking care of horses (like me), and they often took out their anger on them because apparently having experience and knowledge in the area, and going above and beyond to help care for the horses, correlated to "going against the rules and causing trouble". They would yell and shout at you, even downright insult and degrade you, which is terrible. Nobody should ever go through any of this at an animal rescue and sanctuary, and I didn't appreciate the mistreatment and inequality that I saw. I left because of all of that, and don't recommend it. At all. I love horses and love caring for them, but this place is not a place to make "friends" unless you're rich with money. Take my advice and go find another sanctuary to volunteer at to care for rescued horses. They might deny what I said, but believe me when I say they're not good people at all. Edit: While I don't remember who did it and whether it was a regular volunteer, a sponsor, or someone who owns the place, I remember that a person harshly and intentionally slapped the face of a horse that innocently turned its head towards him while he was caring for it. Not okay in any way or form, and it makes me wonder if other animals are getting abused in any way or form without anyone knowing. Second edit: Second edit: Now I remember, it was the sponsors they treated better because they had money compared to the regular volunteers. I forgot for a moment what they were called but now do.

The only reason she did that is because she could not take direction. She was very arrogant and racists with her comments. Reg is a great leader and her concern is the safety of the volunteers and the horses. LUZ came in like a know it all.. She is the loser not us. I love being there with Reg and all the volunteers that want to learn. If you want to be around horses and have fun and a learning experience come on down.

I recently moved to fort Lauderdale for work and thought..WHAT'S BEST TO DO?!? to furnish my home...head back to the HABITAT center for find possible a couch or dining table etc. Upon walking into this place I immediately became overwhelmed by the "clutter"! To my left was couches and just a few long tables with chairs to accent possible what you can match with it. BUT..no other table chairs..that's all! I began to walk around towards the back and seen a few stand alone chairs and wall paintings. As I'm walking around I started to stare at the "tags"..but it's not TAGS it looks like bandaids with an orange sticker on it. So, I'm looking like "I know that dont say 499.99 for a dirty couch out the box" I turned towards more items and it's like that all over the store. WHY SO EXPENSIVE!??! for things 1) probably got bugs 2)its not new and dusty. The stores in philly aren't like this and I'm totally shocked that they had stuff priced up like this in the 4's to 500's that's dirty. And on top of that people were actually buying stuff but..anyways..the mark up on this stuff should be a crime. You can literally get a brand new mirror or a light fixture with the screws in a box on amazon for 50 dollars. Why would someone buy something dirty for $500?!? Are yall stupid?plus they dont answer the phone which lead me to a disappointing drive. ANSWER THE DAMN PHONE MAYBE PEOPLE WONT BE BAMBOOZLED LIKE ME. (1) pro tho..there is delivery available but that probably is a arm & a leg as well and aint no telling what's in the truck with them probably bed bugs and roaches (2) there google reviews are probably from white washed Hispanics saying they love the store..dont fall for it.
