The entrance is on the Washington Street side of the building. Make sure to stop at the smaller building outside as that is where you buy your tickets and receive your earbuds. From there you can proceed inside the renovated courthouse and a docent with start the introduction film then explain what order to go through the museum. The Center opened in 2014. I did not know who Earl Scruggs was before my visit. The North Carolina Musicians Mural Trail brought me to Shelby, NC. But he was a well-known banjo player and who had his own style of playing while developing the sounds of bluegrass. Besides Scruggs, the museum tells some of the history of Cleveland County. The Rotunda has the instruments used by the Scruggs family. In These Hills tells Earl Scrugg's story and has some interactive exhibits. There is a board where you can listen to his music and that of other artists. Out of Carolina is the next room and covers the next stage in Scruggs career. The radio history, Shelby Dynasty and textile mills in the area. Turning Road is the last room covers the Civil Rights Movement, textile mills closing, and changing music styles. I recommend a visit to the center if you are near Shelby.

Very interactive and interesting to learn about Earl Scruggs and bluegrass music. I enjoyed it…read morewith my family.

All I can say is wow! I can't believe this place is in Shelby! No offense Shelby (none taken…read moreMichael). This complex is something that you might only expect to see in a larger city like Charlotte. The Legrand is an enormous Conference/Event Center located on The Cleveland Community College Campus, right across from the fairgrounds. The exterior has some beautiful architecture and endless glass panels. Last night I attended a shareholder's meeting for Edward Jones and finally got to see the inside. There are three main ballrooms that can be opened up into one large space. The acoustics are incredible. Everything is pretty much new, from the carpeting, to the fixtures to the AV equipment. Legrand also has a state of the art security system, and with the touch of a button the entrances and exits can all be locked down in an emergency. Not sure if there is a kitchen on site for catering or not. From what I heard, to date, all of the catering for events is from outside providers. Looks like a great place for a wedding, party or business meeting!

As far as conference centers can be cool, it is pretty cool. There are several huge ballrooms that can be dressed up or down to host different types of events: wedding receptions, conferences, seminars, luncheons, or other event receptions. The options truly are endless. It appears that you can rent the rooms individually and rent the various accoutrement that go with them (chairs, PA systems, projectors and screens, decor elements). Catering options exist from the kitchen on-site. I was quite surprised by the awesome snack options available at the conference I attended. I am not exactly sure who they get to fill the massive building, but I would definitely recommend it for a Charlotte event. I am sure it is much nicer than your typical hotel ballroom, and my guess is that it's less expensive too.

We had an AMAZING experience!!! I was in a wedding that the wedding party and family stayed here…read morebut you can also rent out single rooms. There is a decent sized parking lot. The common areas are: - a library with a record player, games and books - a dining room with snack and water available at all times - an outside area with a gas fire pit - a half bathroom downstairs in addition to the bathrooms in each room We stayed in the tree top room. The room was SO spacious and the bed was super comfy. There was a Nespresso in the room with coffee pods, and a carafe of water. The shower was luxurious and there was shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion provided. There was also a mini fridge with a small freezer up top, and the blackout curtains were AMAZING! We loved the fire pit. It was gas so you didn't smell like bonfire, and they turned it on each night for us. It is very secure- you need a code to get in the house, and you are given 2 keys that open your specific room. The decor was amazing and they had decorations for fall which was fun! The staff was amazing!!! There is a number to text if you need any help, and there was someone there a lot of the time we were- he stayed out of the way but was available to help if needed and was super nice. The best part was by far the food!!! They served us every meal and it was all SOOO delicious. Multiple options for each meal and very unique offerings. It was very clearly homemade and made with love! I did not have a bad meal here and some of the best food I've had recently was here. They served mimosas and coffee in the mornings, and lemonade/tea/water in the afternoons in addition to the food. There were snacks available at all times too. Everything was seriously perfect. My only complaint was we couldn't quite figure out how to work the TV in our room. We have YouTube TV and the TV in the room didn't have the app, we couldn't figure out how to download the app, and we couldn't figure out how to ChromeCast anything from our phone. But this really wasn't a big deal and there were other apps on the TV. It was so home-y feeling and soo cute!! We had a great experience and I definitely recommend it if you are staying in Shelby.
