I miss our in-person lessons dearly, but since March 2020, Jasmine seamlessly adapted her lessons to a Zoom format. I first found my singing voice when I bought my daughter a ukulele in 2014, and my voice was as high as the soprano ukulele. Jasmine has since helped me develop and discover my full singing voice potential, chest voice and head voice. She has taught me breath-support and mouth shapes to facilitate my singing. She'll get as technical or as non-technical as you like! I love how she listens to any singing goal I have, and then helps me surpass my own expectations I have of myself. For example, I wanted to sing a song in French, but I do not know how to speak French, and Voila! Jasmine helped me break this goal down bit by bit, and sing a song that I had wanted to sing for years, but never thought I could. Jasmine even takes the time to host various performance opportunities for her students. When I first began lessons, it was not my intention to perform, but have done it 3 or 4 times, now, and always find it to be such a fun and one-of-a-kind experience! I love how she has the full-range of students, from novice to expert, and I think this really rounds out her teaching skills, seeing the many different perspectives of her students.

She also is able to assess where exactly I am vocally, so that she doesn't push me too hard and get me frustrated and she doesn't leave me bored because the material is not challenging enough. She accesses that sweet spot. Her voice is incredible and it is a joy to get to listen to her sing, which she will do sometimes if I ask. I love also going out to see her in her public performances. She has brought me from not being able to sing at all to being a lot more confident and able to carry a tune. And I even noticed changes in my speaking voice. I'm going to continue with Anna for a long time. I can't wait to see where she can take my voice in the future!

And because of that, I don't know many of the terminology or what they mean. So I really appreciate that Marla has always been patient and super adaptive in coming up with new exercises or creative visualizations to fit me, and find alternative ways to help me learn. I have been working with Marla for many years. And since then, she had taught me good foundations and helped me develop my voice and expanded my range. I seriously can't say enough good things. First of all, she's so good at teaching adults. I started with the piano and was really nervous to pick up something new at my age, but she made me feel completely comfortable - she never made me feel bad for not practicing (which took a while to get in the habit of) but gave me enough structure to help keep me progressing. And I've had the opportunity to practice playing at her annual sing-along parties, which again I was really nervous about the first couple of times, but it's the most accepting and encouraging group of people and I can mess up as many times as I want with no judgement - which I think has really helped me grow and learn how to stay calm (although my hands still tend to shake when I get started). I also appreciate how flexible and versatile Sandy is. My at-home electric piano shorted out and we were able to transition to the guitar for bit - and now have even found the ukulele! It's really fun to be able to mix it up if I want to - and Sandy is very accommodating with whatever I feel like doing on that day. Although lessons do tend to be better when I do practice, it's always fun and I leave in a much better mood than I came. And I now rarely miss a day of practice, which is a testament to how much I love it!
