Been there several times, off 'n on. Good cross section of food... lots to drink... reasonable prices. Service was good. Extensive beer list... but a fair amount of items are out of stock. Chicken was very good... even my leftover piece I ate the next day. Potato salad was excellent. Home Fried Potato Chips? That's another story. Basic chips with seasoned salt were extremely salty. (you did see "extremely salty" didn't you?) My wife did not eat her pasta side dish: uneven temperature and overly sweet sauce. In the past we have enjoyed various sandwiches too. I honestly never heard of Mohan's before and I certainly didn't know what Universal Chicken meant when I saw it listed on the menu. But after reading the very entertaining background story of its proprietor, Charles A Mohan (Moe) purchasing a former lounge in the Universal Shopping Plaza in 1963 it all came together. I am sorry I didn't know about this place sooner because based on my entry into the plaza to park it became apparent that this must be the place to go on a Friday night. Perhaps even more so during high school football season. The restaurant was buzzing with patrons left and right and our large party of 20 were escorted to our seating area. Once seated, we had prompt and friendly service. Their menu is quite extensive and offers homemade soups, a wide variety of dinner salads, wings, pizza, Italian dishes, seafood and steak entrees, hoagies, wraps, smoked spare ribs and of course various chicken choices. The pressure-fried is their specialty. I noticed they even offer a group meal of 1 medium pizza, 10 pieces of chicken, 1 shrimp basket and a pitcher of beer or soda for $32.95. We were VERY impressed with the speed and accuracy of our orders and service considering the place was quite busy. 1st time visitor. Went for lunchtime on a weekend. Place was not busy. Ordered the wings with a dry rub . Very crispy and super size . Even though I'm not a whole wing fan I'd say this are pretty great. Regular fries had some type of coating on them so I was not impressed. I'd pass on those next time. I have been repeating loyal customer for the last 15 years. We have always found the food to be good in what was ordered. But recently we have noticed a change in the customer service from Mohan's Restaurant. The current interaction with the restaurant involved a to go order which was picked up at the location by myself. When the order was placed the total was $31 which compared to the receipt total on our pickup order. When checking my bank statement, the amount had changed to $33.89. I called the Mahan's to inquire about the change, which I was informed by the manager it was my bank adding a fee to the order. He stated that the total would correct after a day or two. I waited a few days, and the total did not change which I verified with my bank that they do not add fees to credit card purchases. I called back to Mohan's to further inquire. Yes, the call was poorly made for timing which was the start of the dinner service. The manager requested if he could call me back once the rush was over which I agreed. Later that same night he did call back, but the attitude was different, very aggressive and argumentative. He stated since I ordered through a delivery service, I should expect the additional charge. My follow up informed him that I was the delivery service which I did not use any of the services in our area. I stated I ordered from their web site which I was instructed I used the wrong site. The call became more aggressive when i mentioned the web site url - https://mohansrestaurant.com. The manager quickly scolded me stating that all web sites charge more. He proceeded to yell at me over the phone and stated all restaurants do this in America. When you order from TocoBell you get charged and that I should know how to order properly. I stated i ordered from Mohan's not TocoBell. So, in the end the manager won his fight over the phone. For a long time, loyal customer which I order quite often to receive ZERO respect over a $2.89 inquiry I stated that we would no longer be a customer. He proceeded to yell at me as if I were a bad customer, this is when I ended the call. Please use this as a warning - Mohan's Restuarant and their managers Do not care for Customer Service or having Loyal Customers. If their goal is to over charge and not explain why then they have accomplished the GOAL! The add bonus GOAL here is that they lost an important person - A PAYING CUSTOMER. My experience will be share as often as possible which should have a long-term impact on Mohan's. Poor Customer Service - Rude Management may work out to ZERO Customers. read more

They handled our party of 23 on a Sunday evening with amazing grace and speed. With my meal, seafood Alfredo, it tasted amazing. A large, impressive salad. A hot, fresh pasta dish with plenty of shrimp and real crab flakes. With a large piece of garlic bread, I mopped up every last inch in my bowl. read more

Good, wholesome homemade food. Never let's me down. BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, salad, and rolls. The Rueben and the Meatloaf dinner are also solid choices. This little place is a Penn Hills gem. They're well known in the community for their fried chicken. I visited recently with my grandma and my daughter, in between lunch and dinner. The waitress (I believe her name was Crystal?) was amazing and had suggestions ready when asked. The food came out quickly and was really good- their barbecue sauce is pretttttttty good. All of our meals were hot and tasted good, my only gripe- and it's silly and minor- is that the portions are freaking huge. The kids meal had a big adult potion of fries. It's up to you if that's good or bad, just something I noticed. I welcomed the large portions for my green beans though- they really know how to cook 'em. I also really like that this place gives good service without charging an arm and a leg. Or a thigh. Get it? Because their specialty is chicken? And that's a cut of chicken? Oh forget it. I'm a yelper, I'm not funny. Anyway, the bottom line is that this is a good family restaurant at a reasonable price. We'll definitely be back. read more

If you like wings, you must go to Mohan's. There is no shame in just get 6 becaus ethey are mammoth. You can get different syles of wings, but the their specialty are the hot wings that are salted, not sauced. It doesn;t sound great, but believe me it is. Try these hot mouth watering wings. We moved to Plum in 1971. Went to Mohan's on a regular basis. Each time we had a baby the staff just doted on our kids and made sure that our baby carrier was put right on the table! The wings are great, their other food is alright. Service is consistently atrocious. There will always be 3-5 people, including your server, sitting around rolling silverware and talking loudly. It's always a guessing game when they're going to come take your order. I don't even bother waiting for the check anymore, I just head up to the register to pay and have the hostess get it. Some of the staff are friendly but most of them make it clear that they don't want to be there. I only go back because I love the wings but prefer to do take-out now. read more

Not to mention the kitchen forgot to make someone's meal at our table. Our server didn't check on us so we had to find her to ask when the last meal would be out. I remember when the chicken at Mohan's was cooked, when the crust was crisp and golden brown and whenever you bit into it blood didn't drip out. My son bought me a chicken dinner from Mohan's, I was just in the mood for some crusty fried chicken. What I got was a mushy bloody mess! the crust was a white mushy greasy mass. Lucky for me that I ordered sweet potato fries- they were good so at least I had something decent to eat. Very disappointed and upset that something so disgusting passed for food. read more

I have been going to Mohan's for over 25 years and unfortunately Saturday night was my last time. We were seated right away and then 3 other tables were seated. The other 3 tables had their drinks, soups, and salads and we still were not recognized. We have lefted twice before without saying anything and this time I asked for a manager. Cheryl came out after peaking around the corner, and apologized and said she would wait on us. I said No Thanks. Then she offerd to comp us. I again said no, I was not complaining to get something for free. After we left and went thru the first door I heard Cheryl say to a customer waiting for a pick up, Why even say anything? I went back in and said Excuse Me! How unprofessional for a manager to talk about a customer to another customer. She said she did not understand why I even said anything. I guess she missed the point of having meetings with her staff to offer better service and to recognize customers. But I now see why things are the way they are with a manager like that setting the example. It is a shame because I will miss the good food, but I will take my money elsewhere. read more

Was there Sat (2/4) around 12:45 pm had to wait 30m for 1/2 dozen wings. When our main dishes arrived we found my wife's meatloaf dinner partly burnt, (edge) and my Racheal sandwich corn beef very dry and tough, I thought it was "pulled jerky". Well first off I am surprised at their customer service. They do not treat customers like they appreciate them. I bought my drink cranberry and vodka and it was delicious so I decided I wanted a second drink. Well my second drink apparently the bartender apparently forgot to pour the vodka in and just gave me straight cranberry. I don't get ice so I can taste my drink very well. When I went to go ask him about it he swore he put vodka in there and offered to put another shot in there. Well what I didn't know is that he charged me extra for that shot and just said that's how we do it here. I would never try to get over on someone for a $3.25 drink I just want it made right for what I'm paying. I never argued or made a scene about it but I felt like he could have just took that drink I had and made a separate drink if he think I was trying to get an extra drink. I have plenty of money could have spent it there and he could have had a nice tip too but when it was all said and done they didn't treat me fairly so I will never spend a dime in there ever again. Since I moved to West Moreland county it's been 20 years since I have visited this restaurant. It may be another 20 years before I return. Took my elderly parents there for a 55 year anniversary...extremely disappointed. Service was slow, inadequate and unfriendly. The baked scrod was tasteless, chicken parmesan overcooked and dry lacking additional sauce, and my tour of Italy was the same. The chicken parmesan was overcooked and dry and the lasagna was absolutely boring. I had to request parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes which should have been provided before the meal was delivered. A bottle of beer was brought to the table for my dad and we waited over 10 minutes to get the waitresses attention to bring a glass. At the end of this fiasco we refused to take home almost half of the food that left on each of our plates. At least the salads were good.....Mohan's has quite a large menu selection but if this dining experience is any indication of what the rest of the food is like I'll spend my money in West Moreland county.
